New Member Sunday will be February 24. Whether or not you’ve attended the

Orientation Session, you’re welcome to join the congregation and be a voting member

and participant in our mission and ministry.

special prizes! We’ll have categories for best vegetarian, best spicy,

and more!

In addition to the chili cook-off, bring your favorite board game or card

game and find others to play!

Bring a friend and a dish to share as we warm our hearts and nourish our bodies at this potluck that starts at noon on Friday, February 15th. This will be our last potluck until May, so take this opportunity to gather with friends around good food and conversation!

No Class Feb 3rd: Shepherding Group Sunday

Join us for our second unit of the semester with a class on Death and Dying.

February 10: Our guest speaker is Leora Effinger-Weintraub. Leora will speak to us about how to have hard conversations around death and dying and will answer questions.

Sunday, February 17: Planning Your Funeral... It’s a Good Thing! Join Pastor Julie on Sunday, February 17 at 10:30 as we spend some time talking about funerals - and how you can plan yours. Beginning February 24th: Book Study, Barking to the Choir, more info below!

Join Shannon for a book study!

In a nation deeply divided and plagued by poverty and

violence, Barking to the Choir offers a snapshot into the challenges

and joys of life on the margins. Sergio, arrested at age nine, in a

gang by age twelve, and serving time shortly thereafter, now works

with the substance-abuse team at Homeboy to help others find

sobriety. Jamal, abandoned by his family when he tried to attend

school at age seven, gradually finds forgiveness for his

schizophrenic mother. New father Cuco, who never knew his own

dad, thinks of a daily adventure on which to take his four-year-old son. These former gang

members uplift the soul and reveal how bright life can be when filled with unconditional love

and kindness.

This book is guaranteed to shake up our ideas about God and about people with a glimpse at

a world defined by more compassion and fewer barriers. Gently and humorously, Barking to

the Choir invites us to find kinship with one another andre-convinces us all of our

own goodness.

If you would like a copy you can purchase one from Shannon from $11.00

Dear Fellow members of St. Peder’s,

Another year has passed, and here we are again for another annual meeting. I looked back on my two previous yearly letters, and I found that I get to repeat myself yet again when I say, “Thank you! It has been another good year at our church.”

2018: -We welcomed our new office manager, Jeannie Farrell, early in the year. Jeannie hit the office running with the help of Shawna Nelson, who kept everything together during our search. -I was hoping to write about all the electricity being generated by the solar panels on our roof for this letter. Unfortunately, our building didn’t meet the qualifications for the project. At our congregation meeting in May there was a strong support to go ahead with the project. Nevertheless, I want to thank the Green Team for all the work they put into this.

Looking ahead: -Now that we have the building roofs up-to-date, we’ll be looking towards the grounds. There is some landscaping around our campus that is in the planning stages. Our Green Team is working with the Property and Energy committee on this.

As always, please continue to let us (your council) know of anything that’s on your mind. Your guidance is what steers St. Peder ‘s. Thank you again for letting me serve.

Curt Petersen, Council President

It seems that every day brings news of another mass shooting. Gun violence is everywhere. Which is why we need to talk with each other about this issue. For the first time Uprising will spend an entire season on one issue, with each production looking at it from a different perspective and lens. We’ll bring our complicated, nuanced, and conversation provoking style to this important issue. As always we’ll partner with community organizations who are doing work on the issue so you can get involved before you even leave the theatre.

This season features all women and transgender playwrights, all women and transgender directors, and all new work. All shows will be at The Off Leash Area Art Box: 4200 East 54th St. Minneapolis, MN 55417

Our first show is Line of Sight by Shannon TL Kearns Directors: Ashley Hovell and Anthony Neumann, Show runs Feb 15th - March 2nd

But what if Alex is more powerful than he thinks? In the midst of a tragic event, Alex discovers something supernatural inside of him that he didn’t know was there. But will it be enough to change what needs to change? For more information and tickets: www.uprisingtheatreco.com
