make in the State tax millage for the 1014 assessment Tile Governor about the first of Aug ust was satisfied he could make a reduction of one and a half mill in the pension tax and so ordered but to determine wheth- er or not still further reduction- of the state millago could be made it was necessary for the Governor to take further time to gather more definite data from a large number of the Tax Asses sors He asked the Assessors for this information und now since receiving reasonably accurate in formation from practically all of the counties the Governor lias reached the conclusion that act ing within his discretion to low er the State miltuge ho will re duce the said State of seven mills as fixed by law to five and mills for the assessment of 1914 and has made proper orders covering said two mills reduction The effect of the order of Gov ernor Train rnell in reducing the nfillago is that the amount of taxes will be paid for 3014 will be nearly sixhundred thous- and dollars less than would have been collected had the Governor allowed the millage to remain at seven and a half mills Govern- or Trammell believes in keeping taxes as low as reasonably per missible considering the necessa- ry expenses of the State govern- ment and also thinks the tax- payers should not be required to pay such high taxes as to create a surplus in any fund upon which the State would get only a
