DETOUR DETOUR DETOUR

Check In or Check OutA Detour is a choice between 2

tasks. Read each task and choose the ONE you think your team can

complete quicker.

Check In Check OutorFor the many visitors that flock to any area there is a place for them to rest their head.

Make your way to a local hotel or motel and retrieve the following items:

- A brochure of things to do in the area

- A complimentary item of your choice (shower cap, bar of soap, notepad, etc.)

The Dewey Decimal System, invented in 1876, is a classification system to standardize the location of books in a library. Head on over to our local library and retrieve the Dewey Decimal labeling on the following books:

- “The Five Love Languages” written by Gary Chapman

- “Green Eggs and Ham” written by Dr. Suess

Collect your findings in your clue card envelope and save for the finish line.

Go on to your next challenge!

States or DatesA Detour is a choice between 2

tasks. Read each task and choose the ONE you think your team can

complete quicker.

States DatesorIn 1999, the United States Mint began releasing a series of brand new quarters to honor the 50 states therefore replacing the traditional American Eagle.

Your task is to find 4 quarters each with a DIFFERENT state represented on the back.

Find a penny, pick it up, then all day you’ll have good luck. Pennies are considered lucky, but one penny is luckier than them all.

Your task: find a penny from each of your team member’s birth years (if born the same year, you must find a penny for each member).

Tuck your coins away in your clue card envelope to present at the finish line.

Go on to your next challenge!

License Plate or Flower For Your DateA Detour is a choice between 2

tasks. Read each task and choose the ONE you think your team can

complete quicker.

License Plate Flower For Your DateorIn the United States, the license plate has not only been useful for car registration information and identification, but for each of the 50 states, it visually represents aspects of the State’s culture. Your task is to find and take a picture of license plates representing at least 12 different states.

Giving your lovely lady a flower is a classic symbol of love.

Using the balloons provided, create a balloon flower.

Hint: you are likely going to need the internet and YouTube!

Hold on to your pictures and/or creation and save for the finish line.

Go on to your next challenge!

ROAD BLOCK ROAD BLOCK ROAD BLOCK

Pump It UpA roadblock is a task that only 1 team

member may perform. Whichever team member does not do THIS

challenge must do the other OR, if you have already completed the

other roadblock, whichever team member did not do the last challenge

must do this one.

How steady is your hand? Pumping gas is a skill and an art form. It takes precision to get that nice

round number in price.

Your task: Make your way to the nearest gas station and pump

exactly $1.00. For every cent you are over, you will receive a

10 minute penalty on your final race time.

Get a receipt or take a picture at the pump with your exact amount

and move on to your next challenge!

ArcadeA roadblock is a task that only 1 team

member may perform. Whichever team member does not do THIS

challenge must do the other OR, if you have already completed the

other roadblock, whichever team member did not do the last challenge

must do this one.

Arcades have been a coin-operated source of entertainment for years.

They found their greatest popularity from the late 1970’s to the

mid-1990’s. Although arcades have faded with individual home-based

consoles, you can find one in every town.

Your task: Make your way to the nearest arcade. Using any game of

your choice, you must earn 15 tickets for your team.

When you have all 15 tickets, store them away and save them for the

finish line.

Brain FreezeIn this roadblock, BOTH team

members may participate.

The famous Slurpee drink (named for the sound made when drinking

it) can be found in any 7-11 convenience store. Your challenge:

Purchase an extra-large Slurpee and drink it all in one sitting before

leaving the store.

Bring your empty drink cup and your brain freeze to the finish line.
