Stopping or Controlling?

Somepeople,perhapsthosewithasmallerproblemmaybeabletokeepgamblingandcontrolit.However,formanypeopletheonlythingthatwillbeeffectiveistostopaltogether.Youmustbehonestwithyourselfaboutwhethercontrollingorstoppingisthebestoptionforyou.

Ifyoudecidedtotrytocontrolyourgambling,thenyouneedtochangesomeaspectsofyourthinkingandbehaviour.

1. Expect to lose

Ofcourseyouhopetowin–that’spartofthefun.Butberealistic:thegamblingindustrydoesn’texisttomakeyourich!Itexiststoprovideentertainmentandmakemoneyforthosewhorungamblingvenues.

2. Set a budget

Choosetheamountthatyouwillspendperweekorpergamblingsession.Makesureyoucanaffordtolosewithoutitcausingyouhasslesinyourlife.Thensticktoit!Ifyoulose,youwillhavepaidforyourentertainment.Ifyouwin,trynottogiveitall

Byidentifyingthethoughts,feelingsandsituationsthatoccurbeforeandduringagamblingsession,youcanstarttounderstandthecausesofgambling.Thisknowledgeisimportantifyouaregoingtobreakyourgamblinghabitasitwilltellyouexactlywhattriggerseachepisode.

Remember,youmayhavemadethedecisiontogamblehoursordaysbeforeyouactuallygamble.Gamblingisnotspontaneous;youchoosetodoit…justasyoucanlearntochoosenottodoit.
