Day 1 Friday 24 August, 2018 Departure

We depart Australia on our flight to Milan, the world’s design capital. This Italian fashion paradise is home to the internationally renowned Gucci, Versace, Prada, Armani and Valentino companies. Day 2 Saturday 25 August, 2018 Lake Como, Italy

After arriving in Milan our private coach will transfer us 40 kilometres north to our hotel in Lake Como, the jewel-like oasis of tranquillity which is a magical combination of lush Mediterranean foliage and snowy alpine peaks. Our guided orientation tour includes visits to the marble-faced Piazza del Duomo, Basilica di San Fedele, Palazzo Giovio, Palazzo Olginati and the Museo Archeologico. The cable car, one of the steepest in Europe, will take us 720 metres up to the village of Brunate for magnificent views, but it will be a bit chilly up there! If you are feeling fit, you can scale the 143 steps to the top of the lighthouse for a remarkable bird’s-eye view. This evening we have the pleasure of joining Ita at our included Welcome Dinner. This morning, with our guide, we take a scenic two hour boat trip to Villa Carlotta, known for its beautiful setting and spectacular gardens. It was built in 1745 and later given as a wedding present to Charlotte, Duchess of Saxe-Meiningen. For a stylish Italian lunch we take the ferry across the lake to the lovely town of Bellagio, which occupies a magnificent site on the promontory dividing Lake Lecco from Lake Como. Following an afternoon visit to the semi-classical Villa Melzi, known for its splendid gardens, we return to Como by ferry. Day 4 Monday 27 August, 2018 Lake Como

Today will be an absolute treat, when our guide takes us through the beautiful Italian Lakes countryside to Lake Maggiore where we will take a boat to the exquisite and spectacular Isola Bella. Our visit will include the Palace, Napoleon’s Room, the Hall of Mirrors, Music Room and more. The gardens are filled with ornamental fountains and statues and are undoubtedly some of the most dramatic examples of 17th-century Italy. The remainder of the afternoon will be free time to relax and soak-up some Italian style.

Day 5 Tuesday 28 Augus,t 2018 Verona, Venice, Italy

Today we bid farewell to the sapphire waters and snow capped peaks of Como for Verona to visit the famous balcony where Juliet stood while Romeo declared his everlasting love. Following lunch we travel to the 1,500 year-old city, Venice. A vaporetto will transfer us to the entrance of our hotel. After check-in we can absorb the atmosphere when we promenade to Piazza San Marco. Venice was built on 117 small islands and has 177 canals with 409 bridges, but remember, only three cross the Grand Canal. Our day will conclude with an included dinner at a local Venetian restaurant. Day 6 Wednesday 29 August, 2018 Venice

This morning our guide will take us on our orientation walk which will include St Mark’s Bell Tower, where 15th-century clerics found guilty of immoral acts were suspended in wooden cages from the tower for up to 12 months, the Basilica di San Marco, Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari to see Titian’s masterpieces, the Scuola Grande di San Rocco to view Tintoretto’s paintings and the Rialto and Accademia bridges. This afternoon will be a truly Venetian experience when we spend time in a chartered vaporetto, travelling through the myriad of canals and enchanting waterways of this unique city. Our evening will be a wonderful and memorable experience when we have the option of attending the opera at Teatro La Fenice. It is one of the most famous and renowned landmarks in the history of Italian theatre. Day 7 Thursday 30 August, 2018 Venice

Following a relaxed morning, to perhaps visit the Rialto market or take a vaporetto ride on the 3.5 kilometre Grand Canal with its 100-plus palazzos dating from the 12th to the 18th centuries, we board the deluxe 5-star Celebrity Constellation. Remember to be on deck as we depart for a spectacular and memorable view over Venice. Day 8 Friday 31 August, 2018 Koper, Slovenia

This morning we have a guided tour of Koper, a Slovenian port city on the Adriatic coastline. Our visit will include the imposing and beautifully ornate 15th-century Pretorian Palace and gothic style Loggia, the Cathedral of St Nazarius, Tito Square and the 54 metre-tall Bell Tower. Day 9 Saturday 1 September, 2018 Dubrovnik, Croatia

This morning will be both fascinating and stimulating as we attend Part 1 of Ita’s talk on My Life and the Media. At midday we arrive in Dubrovnik. Following lunch, remember your camera/phone as our guide takes us on a walking tour of the Pearl of the Adriatic, founded in the 7th century and famous for its spectacular seafront location on the Dalmatian coast. We will visit Onofrio’s Fountain, the grandiose St. Saviour’s church, legendary Arsenal, Baroque St. Blaise Church, Gothic Rector’s Palace and Orlando’s Column. Today’s highlight will be a walk around the spectacular and world famous 1,940 metre-long City Wall completed in the 16th century. Day 10 Sunday 2 September, 2018 Kotor, Montenegro

This morning we sail up the picturesque Bay of Kotor, a submerged river canyon. A fantastic landscape is created by the overhanging limestone cliffs of Orjen and Lovcen. At the conclusion of a leisurely breakfast, we depart on a guided tour of Kotor, a cultural and natural world heritage site. It will be a delight to visit the Clock Tower, Main Gate, Arms and Flower Squares, Maritime Museum, Green Market and Napoleon’s Theatre in this city, which was founded by the Romans in 168BC

Upon our arrival in Valletta, our guided tour will include St. John’s Cathedral, one of the most ornate baroque churches in the world, the Grand Master’s Palace which is the official residence of the Maltese President and St. Paul’s Shipwreck Church. The fortified Citadel of Mdina, known as the Noble City, as it was the favoured residence of the Maltese aristocracy, will be an interesting visit with its massive walls and peaceful, shady streets.Day 13 Wednesday 5 September, 2018 Valletta

This morning we experience the unique excitement of Falconry Art at the Malta Falconry Centre. It was inspired by a tradition that dates back to the 13th century and its aviary collection includes the Maltese Falcon, Bald Eagle, Tawny Owl, Common Kestrel, African Vulture and many more. Demonstrations by highly skilled falconers with a range of well-trained, majestic birds will be a feature of our fascinating and educational visit. On our return to the Constellation we visit the megalithic Hagar Qim & Mnajdra Temple sites which date back to 3,600 – 3,200 BC and are among the most ancient religious sites on Earth.

Day 14 Thursday 6 September, 2018 Catania, Sicily

A spectacular time lays in wait for us today when our guide takes us to picturesque Taormina. It is perched on a cliff about 250 meters above sea-level and provides spectacular and breathtaking scenic views, particularly, of the formidable Mt. Etna, an active 3,350 metre-high, strato-volcano! Our visit will include Teatro Antico di Taormina, an ancient Greco-Roman theatre built in the 3rd century BC and still used today, Terrace Piazza IX April and Torre dell’Orologio, a restored 12th-century clock tower.Day 15 Friday 7 September, 2018 Naples, Italy

We travel back in time today as our guide takes us to the ancient ruins of Pompeii – Italy’s most popular tourist attraction. It was a wealthy port and trading town within the Roman Empire. After being devastated by an earthquake in AD63 it suffered further destruction from the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in AD79. Amongst many attractions, our tour will include the Forum, House of Veti, Teatro Grande and Temple of Apollo. We will also visit the beautiful resort town of Sorrento, with its spectacular views of the Bay of Naples.

Day 16 Saturday 8 September, 2018 Rome, Italy

We disembark the 5-star luxury of Celebrity Constellation this morning and continue our adventure as we move onto the Eternal City, Rome. Our guided orientation tour will include a visit inside the massive and majestic Colosseum, Roman Forum, Pantheon with its all-seeing eye of heaven, Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain’s spectacular fantasy of mythical sea creatures and cascading water, Campo dei Fiori with its brooding, hooded philosopher Giordano Bruno and entry to the confronting and sometimes chilling Capuchin Friar’s Crypt. Lunch will be at leisure at Piazza Navona with Bernini’s lively Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi as its central showpiece.Day 17 Sunday 9 September, 2018 Rome

This morning our guide takes us to the Vatican Museum where the accumulated collections of humanity’s artistic history are housed and include nearly eight kilometres of displays! Our visit will include the extraordinary Sistine Chapel with its 930 square metres of fresco depicting the story of humanity pre-Christ, which took Michelangelo four years to complete. Our afternoon will conclude with a short walk to the staggering grandeur and magnificence of St. Peter’s Basilica to see Michelangelo’s Pieta. Ita Buttrose is one of Australia’s most recognisable media personalities and currently co-hosts Studio 10 on Network TEN. The 2013 Australian of the Year, she has had a distinguished career in the Australian media with several notable achievements. She was the founding editor of Cleo magazine, the youngest-ever editor of The Australian Women’s Weekly, the first woman to ever edit a major metropolitan newspaper in Australia as Editor-in-Chief of the Sydney Daily & Sunday Telegraphs, and the first woman director of News Ltd Australia. She started her own publishing company, Capricorn Publishing before going on to launch, ITA Magazine which included the ITA Travel Club. Ita helped organise and travelled with the readers of her magazine on tours to the Caribbean, Vancouver and Alaska, Los Angeles and New York. “I love travelling and seeing new places, trying different cuisines and of course shopping”, Ita says. “I particularly like cruising because it’s so relaxing”. In 2011, her early career was celebrated in the ABC mini-series Paper Giants: The Birth of Cleo. She has twice been voted Australia’s most admired woman. Her sharp wit and no-nonsense style has inspired women across the country. She’s the mother of two and a grandmother of five and has even been immortalised in the 1980 Cold Chisel song, Ita. Outside her impressive career in journalism, she’s a best-selling author of 11 books including her autobiography, A Passionate Life. Her current charitable responsibilities include serving as Chair of the Australian Mental Health Prize Advisory Group and as National Ambassador of Alzheimer’s Australia following her term as National President from 2011-2014. She is also Patron of the Muscular Disease Foundation, Emeritus Director of Arthritis Australia and Ambassador for Breast Cancer Network Australia. She received an AO for her services to the community especially in the field of public health education when she spearheaded Australia’s HIV/AIDS Education Program, an OBE for her services to journalism, and a Centenary Medal for business leadership. In 2014 Sydney’s Macquarie University conferred an Honorary Doctor of Letters on Ita in recognition of her contribution to the Arts. In 2015, Ita was conferred an Honorary Doctor of Letters by the University of Wollongong, for her contribution to mental health and ageing.
