On June 18th Haxby Netball club held it's annual Primary school High 5 netball tournament for the 31st year! Local schools are invited to this event, organised by club chair, Val Kennedy and hosted by club members, on the courts at the Ethel Ward Playing Field at Haxby Ralph Butterfield Blacks were dominant, beating teams from Strensall, Badger Hill, the 2nd Ralph Butterfield string and near neighbours Wigginton. Scoring a massive 49 goals and only conceding 3 over 4 x 20 minute matches, the victorious RB were awarded individual trophies and a shield for the school to keep for a year, by International Netball Umpire Miss Sarah Watts....herself a recipient of a winners medal while a pupil at Ralph Butterfield School in the 1980's. Each child entering the event receives a certificate of participation from the club. Val Kennedy said, I am very grateful to Sarah Watts for coming to present these trophies. It gives the youngsters of today something to aspire to, seeing a local person achieve her aim of becoming one of only 7 Interna-tional netball umpires in England, and the dream began at Primary school. Earlier in the year the York Schools Partnership held 2 knock out rounds at The Joseph Rowntree school for Primary schools from York with the winner and Runner up going forward to represent York in the North Yorkshire School Games to be held at Queen Margaret's School, Escrick

    Haxby’s Annual H5 Tournament

HULL CITY TIGERS TRUST (Premier League for Sport) are currently delivering netball session

in primary schools in Hull and in June they put on a tournament with a difference!

Players could play any position they liked to support them in their transition to Year 7 netball in September, with a ruling of only 2 boys on court at any time.

12 Hull schools took part and were split into 2 sections. The tournament, supported by Pauline Hardy, Humberside Netball Development Officer was for Hull primary schools to participate, have fun and enjoy playing netball.

A great time and fun was had by everyone and some excellent netball by all the players.

St Richards won Section A and Cavendish won Section B and both teams were presented with winners medals from Tigers Trust.

All the participants received a certificate of attendance.

on Sunday 3rd July, with Ralph Butterfield and Wigginton taking the honours respectively. Sunday 3rd July... 18 teams took part in the netball High 5 competition, which was split into 2 sections, with 9 teams in each, All these teams had won through 2 competitions at local level, to reach this stage, where they represented their area in the whole of North Yorkshire. Ralph Butterfield were unbeaten , winning 8 matches and drawing 1 to finish top of their section. Wigginton, in the same section, finished 3rd. Semi finals followed, and RB found themselves in the final playing the team from Hutton Rudby, with whom they had drawn 4 all in the preliminary round. The opposition proved too strong this time and the York representatives finished 2nd overall. Wigginton school finished a very cred-itable 5th equal. Medals were awarded by Olympic gold medalist Chris Cook, and the top 2 teams were then invited to attend the next stage of this competition at the English Institute of Sport at Sheffield on 18th July, where they will meet the 2 top teams from West and South Yorkshire and Humber-side. Good Luck to the York Squad from Ralph Butterfield school, at Haxby.

    All are welcome

Walking Netball has evolved from a growing demand for walking sports. Often, one of netball’s strengths is that people never forget playing the sport and the memories as well as the love for the game never leave.

Walking Netball is a slower version of the game; it is netball, but at a walking pace. The game has been designed so that anyone can play it regardless of age or fitness level.

From those who have dropped out of the sport they love due to serious injury, to those who believed they had hung up their netball trainers many years ago, it really is for everyone.

Women the length of the country have begun playing the game of Walking Netball for the fun, laughter and camaraderie the social session brings, as much as the health benefits on offer. It can give those who feel isolated an outlet, provide an activity for those who don’t deem themselves fit enough to run anymore and offer a stepping stone for those looking for a pathway back into netball.

Keep an eye on the regional website. More sessions starting shortly in your area!!!
