Regents’ Glen Country Club

This year marks the beginning of a new era for Regents’ Glen Coun-try Club. In the spring of 2016, the club came under local ownership and direction by the Krebs family, Rod and Connie Krebs, Heather and Jamie Hess, Holly and Matt Eyster.

The Krebs family is very involved in all aspects of the club, and their role goes well beyond ownership and direction as they regularly par-ticipate in club activities. As a part of their commitment to enhanc-ing the membership experience, they partnered with Billy Casper Signature, a private club management company, to establish a high level of quality and service. General Manager Steve Harrington is very optimistic when he talks about Regents’ Glen, stating, “We have so much to offer, and the future for the club is very bright.” Mr. Harrington describes the club environment by referring to a letter from the Krebs family: “It is our mission to take Regents’ Glen to its rightful potential by creating a lifestyle that creates memories for all of us. This entails a positive, friendly environment – with no preten-tiousness or intimidation – for members, residents and employees. Joining the club is like joining a family with a sense of belonging and fellowship. Residents telling people they live here, members bring-ing guests to play golf and dine, and employees loving what they do are outcomes we are quickly earning.”

Touring the grounds at Regents’ Glen and speaking with those involved leaves one with little doubt that it has great potential. The club offers fine and casual dining, golf, swimming, fitness facili-ties and event venues. The Regents’ Glen golf course was designed by Arthur Hills and is maintained under the direction of Kevin Shue, Golf Course Superintendent. A unique and valuable feature of the club is the eight-acre golf practice complex that includes a 9,000-square-feet putting green, a three-level bent grass tee, four target greens, a short-game area with bunkers and bent-grass fair-way. Matt Keller serves as the PGA Head Golf Professional.

The historic and elegant Box Hill Mansion and its surrounding landscaping is a featured part of the club, and is a beautiful setting for weddings and other activities. The club facilities are offered as an upscale venue for events such as charitable golf outings, private social functions and business gatherings. These activities are coor-dinated by Mary Ann Fisher, the Private Events Director, while the menu is the purview of Joe Castellano, Executive Chef, along with Andrea LaCesa, Director of Food and Beverage.

The long-term aspirations for Regents’ Glen Country Club are ex-plained by Rodney Krebs: “On behalf of my wife, Connie, our daugh-ters, Heather and Holly, and their families, we are excited to be a part of something extraordinary here in York County, and we genuinely believe that the future of Regents Glen will live in perpetuity through our grandchildren, their children and their grandchildren.”

Regents’ Glen Country Club is located at 1000 Golf Club Dr., York, PA 17403; telephone: (717) 747-1919. More information about the club and membership can be obtained through its website is at www.regentsglen.com.

like me a little better every new moon when I tell you more about my life? And all my fun with you is spoiled only because a cheeky little monkey wants you to like him as well?

My legs started to wobble. And what I’m telling you now must remain between you and me: I want to be your only friend from Africa. The only one who tells you stories about how we live and why we do what we do.

But as I was feeling more and more sad, I suddenly remembered my mom’s words about showing gratitude. And then I thought, maybe if I introduce my tiny friend Tumbili to you, it won’t mean that you’ll like me less. In fact, you may even like me more, because I have such a cheeky little monkey as my friend.

So here he is, Tumbili, hanging upside down

from a branch, look-ing at me while hap-pily chatting away.

And, believe it or not, once I’d decided to

share Tumbili’s photo with you, I felt much better, even more

so when I tell you what happened next – something you could never imagine. Not in a million moons. But when it all happened, I suddenly knew what true gratitude was, like saying thank you and really, really meaning it. But it was all far too exciting for one day, and right now I’m so tired that I cannot even begin to tell you anything about what hap-pened next. Except that, in a coconut shell, it was awesome. Absolutely awesome.

So I’m afraid you, my wonderful people kiddie friends from around Wyndham Hills, have to wait until the next new moon as I’m already falling off my feet and with my trunk shading my eyes, all I can do now is say goodnight in the best way I know:

– Sleep safely. LALA SALAMA.

But remember, if you want to talk to me, you can use: [email protected].

I remember that you people kiddies don’t have trunks, so I assume your moms also don’t have trunks, and now I wonder how your moms can show you that they love you. This morning, when I stood under my mom’s tummy, happily drinking some deli-cious milk, she put her trunk gently onto my back to show me that she loves me. But then she gave me shock when she asked: “Toto, my darling, the other day when you fell into the sandpit, you didn’t really get out of there all by yourself, did you?”

I almost choked on that delicious milk. How could she know that Tumbili, the monkey, had helped me to get out by covering the floor of the sandpit with coconut shells so that my feet wouldn’t slip? And that maybe – just maybe – without my friend’s help I wouldn’t have stepped out so easily. Or even at all… I ask you, how could my mom know?

But then I remembered, she always seems to know. In a coconut shell, I think all moms know. I bet yours does too. Don’t ask me how; moms just do.

In A Coconut ShellWritten by Friedel Liebe-Elser. Photography By Friedel Liebe-Elser.

kiddy corner

Now I had the choice; I could keep pretending that I did get out all by myself or… But then, since she is my mom, what’s the use pretending? So I told her, told her the whole story, how the tiny monkey helped me. And not just because I felt so much better for telling her everything but also be-cause she kept her trunk so gently on my back that I knew, no matter what, she’ll always love me.

“Why didn’t you tell me this before, Toto?” And then, with her trunk slid-ing down my trunk, she looked at me, looked very deep into my eyes so that I could see her long eyelashes, and at that moment I heard myself whisper, “Maybe – I was ashamed. I guess…”

Oh boy, what an admission. I mean, here am I, an elephant – the largest,

strongest animal roaming the earth, ad-mitting that I needed the help of a tiny monkey to get me out of trouble. Mind you because I am still considered a baby I’m not yet the strongest, of course. But my dad is. He is by far is the strongest anyone has ever seen. And it won’t be long before I am as big as he is.

Then, sliding her trunk all the way down the tip of my trunk, knowing how much I like that because it tickles, she smiled: “My dear little Toto, there’s no shame in accepting help from anyone. Not if it is offered in kindness. The only shame would be not to show gratitude for the help you’ve received. But I’m sure that you did show Tumbili just how grateful you were.”

Now there she got me because I don’t think I actually did. I only remember

walking off with my head held high, and my trunk even higher, muttering some-thing like: “Thank you, my friend,” leav-ing Tumbili standing next to all those coconut shells he had collected and thrown into the sandpit for me. I bet my mom wouldn’t count that as showing gratitude. And now, knowing how im-portant it is, I realize that I didn’t even mean it when thanked my friend.

Therefore this afternoon I tried to find Tumbili. I’d decided I would give him some bananas to show him how grateful I am. That tiny monkey just loves bananas. But the bananas I found on route smelled so delicious that I thought I should try them out myself first. So I ate one of them. And then a second one. They tasted really good. And I ask you, what are two bananas between friends? For an elephant they are a mere morsel, no more. But then I remembered this thing my mom had said about really showing my gratitude. So I carried the last banana, holding it tight in my trunk way in front of me so that I didn’t put it into my mouth by mistake. And I walked and walked – until, finally, I found Tumbili, hanging on a branch, swing-ing like a monkey, shouting: “Hi, Toto. Is that banana for me?”

“Yes, it is. Isn’t that kind of me?”

“But why? As an elephant you can only reach bananas that grow very low while I can jump up as high as I want to get the sweetest bananas of all.”

If it wasn’t for my wanting to show my gratitude, I would have stuffed that last banana into my mouth, and that would have been the end of it. But I felt I should tell Tumbili the truth, so I asked him: “Why don’t you come down a few branches so we can talk – eye to eye – like friends?”

“Oh, that sounds so exciting, Toto,” he screeched, swinging down, screaming and laughing all the way. “What do you want to talk about, Toto?”

When he was low enough that I could nudge him with my trunk, I said: “Do you remember, the other day, when you threw all those coconut shells into the sandpit for me?”

“How could I forget? I had such fun doing it for you because I knew with-out my help you couldn’t get out of there. It felt really good helping you.”

Now this was getting very difficult, but I just had to do it and tell Tumbili that I had come to thank him properly.

“Oh, you mean that thing called grati-tude! I already know what that means. My mom talks about it often. It means you should now do something for me that is really difficult for you because you’d much rather want it for yourself. Or something like that, isn’t it?”

What a cheeky monkey, if ever there was one, I thought as he chatted on: “I know just the thing I want from you because I’ve heard that you are some-times talking to people kiddies. And I know that you’ve even sent them a photo of yourself. Right?”

“Yes, that’s right. I want them to know what I look like because they may have never seen an elephant before. Why do you ask, Tumbili?”

“Well, here is the deal: because I’ve helped you with those coconut shells, I want you to introduce me to your friends, the people kiddies.”

“You what? You can’t be serious! Why?”

“Why not? I want you to send them my photo so that they’ll get to know and like me too.”

My trunk just dropped onto the sand. My ears flopped. My head nearly buckled. I mean, you, the people kid-dies, are my friends. And I’m only just getting to know you myself. How can I possibly give up all the joy of sending you another photo of me to show you how much I’ve grown, hoping you’ll

Where/why did you get your pet? Sophie is a rescue from the York County SPCA. She and her siblings were dropped off along with her mother when she was just 4 weeks old. Sophie was to have been my “empty nest” dog since our son was about to graduate from high school and head off to college. As it turned out, our son decided to stay in York for college.

Is there a story behind its name? No.

Anything special or unusual about them (talents/quirks)?If you look closely at her picture, you can see the shape of a bat on her chest. A few years ago our son sent her picture to Redit, and it received over 250,000 hits. People were debating whether or not it was photo shopped.

What do you like best about your pet?Her energy and high spirit.

Any funny stories? No

How spoiled is your pet?Sophie is very spoiled! Her favorite pastime is to be taken on walks to the Water Company and chase squirrels or just run.

On Thursday, Sept. 22, neighbors and friends gathered at the Front Porch Cafe' for a wonderful evening of food and fun. The menu included Grill-Roasted Garlic, Feta & Olive Relish on Toasted Ciabatta Baguette, Radicchio Salad with Pickled Grapes and Goat Cheese Crumbles paired with an Or-ange Moscato Vinaigrette, Pomegran-ate-Walnut Braised Brisket finished with a Pistachio Mint Gremolata and desserts. Master Chef Mike Cubellis and Chef Josh did an amazing job at providing a fabulous meal!

The Front Porch Café is a completely remodeled 1880s mansion. Built in 1885 by the Frey family, the home still offers the same charm as it did back then. Each one of their dining rooms has a unique fireplace and original hardwood floors. You can choose

to dine in the library, the front dining room, the lounge, the upstairs dining room or the front porch.

The Front Porch Café is a one-of-a-kind dining experience, best suited for intimate dining. They are happy to provide accommodations for larger parties (seven or more guests) with advanced reservations.

Their dining rooms and facilities are available for business meetings, banquets, receptions and gath-erings of all sizes. Please give them a call, and they can provide you with more information.

They use only "farm-fresh" meats, produce, fruit and the very freshest seafood, purchased from York County farms and dairies whenever possible. Be-cause they cook with only fresh ingredients, their menus are constantly changing to feature seasonal fruits and vegetables. Look for something new every time you visit the Front Porch Café.

They do not currently sell any beer, wine or spirits at The Front Porch Café, but they are pleased to of-fer wine service at your table so that you can enjoy your favorite bottled wine.

Their focus is on making you an unfor-gettable meal, made with fresh ingre-dients and fresh ideas, at an affordable price and at the speed you need.

The Front Porch Café is now doing ca-tering. Give them a call or shoot them an email for more information.

We want to thank the folks at the Front Porch Café for providing the friends and neighbors of York's Finest with a wonderful dining experience!

Electronic Systems Installers: Providing Security It is becoming a more common oc-currence that intruders are roaming our neighborhood in the middle of the night, checking car and house doors to see if they can pilfer something. The problem is that as they are doing this, they are feeling more and more comfortable and knowledgeable about trespassing on other people’s prop-erties. Eventually they will become bolder and may even end up breaking and entering or in a confrontation with the owner. What can we do about it? Traditional burglar alarm systems done correctly set up a perimeter boundary between the inside and the outside of the house. When an intrud-er crosses that boundary, the system sounds a local alarm, and contacts the owner and the authorities.

What can we do outside of the tra-ditional house perimeter boundary to detect, apprehend and correct these intruders?

People need to know who is trying to get into their car doors and house doors. Police need hard evidence on a timely basis to apprehend and charge these intruders. Cutting-edge technology can now detect and docu-ment intruders roaming our neighborhoods. Modern Cameras Systems have been evolving at a rapid pace since the late 1990s. Systems cost have come down considerably, and systems are be-ing loaded with features that enhance ownership. Smart technicians can take advantage of these tools to come up with a plan to battle crime wherever it may show. One of the features of a good camera system is email or text alerts where we can set up Security Zones or virtual trip wires. We can activate these boundaries on a time schedule so that they only alert us when necessary. These emails or text alerts are also capable of sending still pictures of what activated them along with the date and time. Operators can use their smart devices to look at and observe live images around their premises to determine if there is a trespasser and take appro-priate action if necessary. If you find that you see one of these bad guys in the act, you can call 911 and email or text them a clip of

the perpetrator. They in turn can send it to the police who can apprehend the suspect on a real-time basis.

If they cannot catch the person, at least you will have evidence proving it happened and something for the police to investigate. The age of good video recording is here, and it is changing the land-scape of how we correct bad behav-ior. The documentation of reflection of light into the lens of the camera when nobody is around to witness it does not forget and tells no lies. The improved emerging technological advancement in the way we process information from light has created a revolution of sorts that has affected all aspects of our lives, perhaps none as much as our law enforcement pro-cesses. Every aspect of law enforce-ment has been greatly enhanced and streamlined. Investigation, appre-hension, documentation, persecution and correction have been impacted by this revolution. The need for hard evidence: I have been professionally active in security camera systems for 37 years but have never seen such an impact as I have in the last few years. Timely video evidence leads to swift appre-hension. Attorneys will agree that when good video is involved there is little to argue about. Good video has two objectives: One is to positively identify the perpetrator, and second is to show them in the act.

There is no escaping the undeniable evidence of good video.

Over The Holidays – Naturally!Blood Pressure

THiNk FOOd + FiTNessDon’t digest Thanksgiving dinner without a Thanksgiving stroll. Sign up for the Turkey Trot! Create a calorie burn on this holi-day known for pigging out – and do your blood pressure a favor

With excessive calories and holiday stress, blood pressure can inevitably rise over the holidays. Fortunately, with a few tips, you’ll be able to reduce your blood pressure over the holidays – naturally!

in the process. Simply getting your body into motion by walking can lower your blood pressure. Don’t be a couch potato over the holidays. Get up, get moving (even if that means playing Poke-mon Go or holiday shopping) and do your body a favor. Don’t underestimate the power of fitness. Even a brisk 20-minute walk several times per week can lower blood pressure. Shed-ding a few extra pounds or a few inches off your waistline is helpful in reducing blood pressure too.

dON’T OveRiNdulge Overindulgence seems to come with the holidays, but try feeding your stomach (eating when your stomach growls) rather than by force of habit. Mindful eating can cause calorie reduction, weight loss, and help you achieve better health (including your blood pressure!). Change your habits by creating a food diary. Don’t overindulge with alcohol either. Binge drinking can have a nega-tive effect on blood pressure, even causing it to rise more than 20 points. Stick to two drinks or less each day.

saY NO TO salTThe holidays come with all sorts of opportunities for seconds (or even thirds), but in doing so, salt intake rises, which can result in increased blood pressure readings. According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2,300 milligrams per day of sodium is recommended. However, those with high blood pressure should limit their intake of salt to 1,500 milligrams per day. Shrimp, ham, and gravy pack a punch of sodium – anywhere from 480 milligrams to a whopping 650 milligrams per serving. Even that dinner roll can be a little over 218 milligrams. Exercise modera-tion and portion control.

saY Yes TO BaNaNasWho says you can’t eat healthy over the holidays? Make bananas your friend; eating two bananas daily can lower blood pressure 10 points, thanks to the potassium. Not a banana fan? Chomp on dates, sip tomato juice, or even go heavy on the guacamole (with potassium-rich avocados).

Don’t let your blood pressure soar over the holidays. Increase your activity level and decrease your calorie consumption and intake of sodium-rich foods. You’ll be glad you did!

lawn & garden

By N2 Staff Writer, Amy Lynne Howlett

You’ve seen it every holiday season since you were a kid: the same evergreen wreath with a red bow adorning every home, street after street. Rather than trimming your door with your habitual yuletide standby yet again this year, consider refreshing your wreath with nature as your inspiration! Using organic materials is an easy, inexpensive and environmentally-friendly way to deck your halls, as well as set your holiday décor apart from your neighbors’ plastic reindeer. Here are some ideas to make your doorway the standout of the neighborhood:

organically!

Survey Your YardBuild upon the hum-drum pinecone wreath and look for acorns, nuts, pods, tree branches, leaves, stones and woodchips – all of which can be given pizazz with some paint or spray glitter. Use metallic hues for a more upscale feel, or get the kids involved and use primary colors for a fun, youthful look. Be creative and remember that many items can be deconstructed. Cut-ting vertical slices off a small log makes flat, uniform circles, creat-ing a whole new canvas!

Incorporate Floral NotesDried flowers are a beautiful embellish-ment. Think beyond poinsettias and resist the urge to use only tra-ditional combinations.

Try to incorporate flow-ers of varying shapes, sizes and colors.

Take In The AromaThe fragrance of fresh pine is synonymous with the holidays, but it doesn’t have to end there. This year, complement it with cin-namon sticks and aro-matic herbs. Rosemary, bay leaves and lavender are all good choices. Scented wreaths are es-pecially nice for indoor décor, and an all-herb wreath is the perfect gift for that someone who has everything!

Reflect A Region Use succulents for southwestern flair, or beach it up with seashells from your last vacation. Choosing a theme for your wreath is a great way

to remember your travels or show your hometown pride!

Go Bananas! Berries and apples are for beginners; experi-ment with pomegran-ates, pears and mini pineapples, or brighten it up with citrus fruits like lemons and limes! Depending on the vari-ety, you may wish to use whole fruits or dried fruit slices. Whole fruits lend a fresher, bolder look, while dried fruit slices invoke a warm and homey feel.

Constructing wreaths from organic materials is a creative, eco-friend-ly way to take your holi-day décor from drab to fab! Who needs Martha Stewart when you have Mother Nature?

deck Your Halls –

napa

Quick, before the stress of holidays overtakes you, it is time for a getaway! Relax your mind and recharge your soul with a late autumn getaway to the heart of America’s wine country, Napa Valley. Spend your time lazily sipping wine and soaking up stun-ning sunsets in the crisp breezes of Napa’s iconic vineyards. An intimate respite awaits you, complete with wine tours, spas, festi-vals, a thriving artist community and so much more.

first stopNewcomers and seasoned visitors can both benefit from making the Napa Valley Welcome Center the first stop. With comprehen-sive guides to all things Napa, as well as gift shops and delightful restaurants, it provides the resources to get the most out of your vacation. Use their webpage to plan your trip and upon arriving, check out all of their onsite resources.

where to stayThe obvious choice, in this case, is the best one. Napa is best experienced with a locally-based inn, resort or bed & breakfast; steer clear of chain hotels. Gourmet meals, tea times, winery tours, spas and a complimentary bottle of wine are often included in packages.

touring wine countryArranging the mode of transportation is a must in Napa; always have a designated driver. Options range from bike rentals to luxury limos, and for the more adventurous, there are even horseback, Segway or kayak tours. Combine beautiful views of vineyards with a gourmet meal as you ride the Napa Valley Wine Train, or float high atop the golden, grape-laden landscape in a hot air balloon.

everyone needs a little relaxationPampering is a must on this type of vacation and Napa Valley of-fers the finest in spa resorts. Whether you decide on a day visit, a couple’s retreat or a multi-day health spa experience, there are plenty of unique options for any need. Some spa offerings include completely underground rooms; treatments mixed from sea-sonal and local ingredients; luxurious fireside pools and private hot tubs; mud wraps and hot stone massages; and even rooftop couple’s massages. And since this is wine country, all of them of-fer glasses of vineyard selections, cheeses and fresh fruit.

something more than wineVineyard and distillery tours are automatically on everyone’s list, but Napa has a wide variety of other offerings to excite and enjoy. Check out the medieval Italian Castello di Amorosa; this stone landmark features a real drawbridge, towers, 107 rooms and a moat. The Oxbow Public Market is a foodie’s dream, providing a diverse selection of shopping and dining experiences. Eclectic combinations of artist styles come together at the Napa Art Walk on the downtown streets of Napa – and don’t miss strolling along the Napa’s Riverfront either.

Soon we will all be cooking, shopping, entertaining and stressing, so don’t let this fall slip by before treating yourself to a glass of Napa’s finest relaxation.
