Yoga is now internationally known and people, particularly in the western world, are keen to learn it. It is not that world was not knowing about it earlier but since last one decade with the efforts of our Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi it had gained international fame. During the lockdown period on account of corona virus disease it has become almost an integral part of our lives and helping us to keep ourselves fit mentally and physically. It is also contributing in making our lives stress free and strong and to some extent it has also relieving people who are suffering from mild depression e.t.c. As social-distancing has reduced our physical movements, it is important to uplift vitality without having to step out of the comfort of your home. Yoga is a sustainable practice and a holistic health option that everyone can access. WHAT IS YOGA? As the world gears up to celebrate the International Day of Yoga on 21st June, let us try and unravel the mysteries of the world of Yoga. MDNIY is a focal Institute for Planning, Training, Promotion and Coordination of Yoga Education, Training, Therapy and Research in all its aspects. MDNIY aims to promote deeper understanding of Yoga philosophy and practices based on classical Yoga amongst people. The main Vision and Mission of the Institute is ''Health, Harmony and Happiness for all through Yoga''. The Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) is also active in India’s fight against coronavirus disease (Covid-19) along with Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. The MDNIY has taken several initiatives like research in collaboration with the prestigious organizations and hospitals like Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), National Institute of Immunology (NII), Delhi. Also, there are various yogic training programmes’ like “COVID warriors training”, “Stay home, stay fit with MDNIY- Practice Yoga at Home”, “Yoga at Home for active, fitter and healthier you and Practice yoga at home” actively running online on digitalized platform by MDNIY. The MDNIY is addressing Covid-19 pandemic problem through clinical studies for Yoga, with studying the impact of yoga interventions on people exposed to COVID-19 patients and yoga for rehabilitation of people recovered from COVID-19. The MDNIY has set up an interdisciplinary research and development task force with a group of experts to formulate and develop strategies for this initiative. In this current pandemic situation people are more in stress and fear which is actually deteriorating their immune system. body. Yoga helps to build up psycho-physiological health, pranic balance,emotional harmony; and manage dailystress and its consequences.

Yoga is particularly useful in conditionswhere stress is believed to play a role.Various Yogic practices such asYogasanas, Pranayama, Dhyana(meditation), cleansing and relaxationpractices etc. are known help modulatethe physiological response to stressors.Several randomized controlled studieshave shown the efficacy of Yogicpractices in management of non-communicable diseases likehypertension, Chronic ObstructivePulmonary disease (COPD), bronchialasthma, diabetes, sleep disorders,depression, obesity, etc. that can be co-morbid conditions in patients with COVID19. Yoga has also been shown to beuseful in vulnerable population such aselderly, children. The function of theimmune system is critical in the humanresponse to infectious disease. A growingbody of evidence identifies stress as acofactor in infectious diseasesusceptibility and outcomes.

Yoga has a significant role in thepsycho-social care and rehabilitation ofCOVID-19 patients in quarantine andisolation. They are particularly useful inallaying their fears and anxiety.Management of stress & anxiety,depression, improving immunity andpsychosocial rehabilitation is alsowarranted in this current scenario ofCOVID-19.

Yoga based life style modules whichcan be used for different sections of thesociety in the present scenario arepresented with the following objectives.

1. To improve immunity againstinfections in general among thepopulation.

2. To reduce susceptibility to infectionsin vulnerable populations (children,elderly and those with comorbidconditions such as diabetes andhypertension) and to those patients inisolation / quarantine with or without mildsymptoms.

Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India hasalso released advisory vetted from yogaexperts. Advisory provides guidelines foryoga professionals (Certified Yogaprofessionals/teachers/ instructors andtherapists etc.) to teach a safe set of Yogapractices based on available scientificevidences, to novices in all walks ofsociety as a service to humanity duringthis pandemic of COVID -19. Followingare the general guidelines andprecautions for yoga practices.

GENERAL GUIDELINES ANDPRECAUTIONS FOR YOGAPRACTICES:

Yoga practitioner should follow theguiding/precautionary principles givenbelow while performing/preparing forYogic practices:

Before the practice:Perform the Yoga practices according

to one’s capacity, cleanliness ofsurroundings, body and mind. Practiceshould be performed with a relaxed bodyand mind and in empty stomach. Usemattress, Yoga mat, durrie or foldedblanket and wear light and comfortablecotton clothes. Yoga should not beperformed in a state of exhaustion, in ahurry or in an acute stress conditions. Incase of chronic disease/ pain/ cardiac

problems pregnancy/surgery etc, aphysician or a Yoga therapist should beconsulted prior to performing Yogicpractices.

During the practice:Practice sessions should start with a

prayer. It should be performed slowly, in arelaxed manner, with awareness of thebody and breath. Breathing should bealways through the nostrils unlessinstructed otherwise. There are contra-indications/ limitations for each Yogapractice and such contra-indicationsshould always be kept in mind. Yogasession should end with meditation/ deepsilence / Sankalpa / Santipa?ha etc.

AFTER PRACTICE:It is advised to take bath after 20-30

minutes of Yoga practice. Food may betaken only after 30-45 minutes of Yogapractice.

Yoga Practices for prevention,rehabilitation and to increase immunity.

1. Shodhana Kriya (Yogiccleansing practices): It includesJalaneti, Sutra Neti Kapalbhati whichhelps in cleansing sinuses, beneficial inallergic conditions and reduces upperairway reactivity.

2. Yogic Sukhma Vyayamas/shithi-likarana Vyayamas/ Pawanamuktasana

series (Joint movements): It includesmovements of Neck, Shoulder rotation,Trunk movement, Knee movement, Anklerotation which helps to increase bloodcirculation, reduce stiffness, enhancesjoint flexibility and helps to facilitate asanapractices.

3. Yogasana: It includes Standing,Sitting, Prone & Supine lying postures.Tadasana, Trikonasana, Ushtrasana,Utthana Mandukasana, Vakrasana,Bhujangasana, Sarala Matsyasana etc.practices improves chest expansion andcardio-pulmonary functions.

4. Kapalbhati: Improves pulmonaryfunctions and reduces secretions. Veryuseful preparatory practice for pranayamapractice. Helps to cleanse frontal sinuses.

5. Breathing & Pranayama: It includesSectional breathing, Nadishodhana,Ujjayi & Bhramari.

Nadishodhan pranayama reduces thesympathetic activity and stimulatevagal (para-sympathetic) activity anddecreases stress and anxiety.Ujjayi increase the oxygen saturationin body. Bhramari pranayama similar tohumming may increase Nasal NitricOxide (NO), which may improveblood flow to the ciliary epithelium and

has anti-inflammatory action6. Yoga Nidra (Pratyaahara):

Reduction in sympathetic arousal andreduced emotional distress and improvesquality of sleep. Rejuvenate the body andhelps to keep the mind calm.

7. Meditative practices (Breathawareness, Dharana & Dhyana):Meditation helps to reduces anxiety andstress by reduce the cortisol level andenhance the alpha brain wave. Makes thebody stable and calm the mind. Balancethe functions of neuro-endocrine systemthereby enhance the immune systemWith these guidelines, He wishes a goodhealth for everyone. People should followthe guidelines, while practicing yoga tomanage stress, enhance immunity andstay safe & healthy.

To become a professionalin Yoga, one needs to simplyhave passion and interest tostart with. To make it aprofession, there are norequirements as such, butmany Universities require abasic high school degree inany stream.

Professional qualification inthe field of Yoga is impartedat both under graduate andpost graduate levels. Forseeking admission to undergraduate program, one mustpass 10+2 in any stream froma recognized Board.

For post-graduationprogram, minimumqualification is a Bachelor'sdegree in any stream from arecognized University,although philosophygraduates are givenpreference. Courses areavailable in degree/diplomaand certificate levels. Attimes, specific qualification isnot required. Instead,experience is counted in thisfield. There is not any agelimit for admission in Yogacourses.

The main subjects of YogaTheory include- Anatomy,Philosophy, Exercises,Meditation, and Theory andPrinciples of Yoga andMeditation, etc. A largecomponent of the training is

praticals, which includevarious asanas such asshatkama, yogasana,suryanamaskar, pranayam,meditation, and so on.

There are many coursesavailable in this field by whichstudents can make theircareer in this field. Some ofthe most sought courses are:

Bachelors in Arts (Yoga),Masters in Arts (Yoga), PGDiploma in Yoga Therapy andCertificate Courses in Yogaare also available.

One can also opt forBachelors in Yoga andNaturopathy. It is a 5.5 yearslong degree, and it combinesthe knowledge of modernmedicine and the traditionalmedicine. The course willcover all aspects of humanhealth, such as, prenatal togeriatric care, from lifestyle todiet, from the physical to themental. NATIONALIndia has beenelected as nonp e r m a n e n tmember ofUNSC for term2021-22. Indiawas electedu n o p p o s e dbeing the solecandidate forthe Asia Pacificseat. This wasmade possible because Afghani-stan had withdrawn in India's favour. India's twoyear term will begin on the 1st of January 2021. This will be the eighth time thatIndia will be serving on the security council bringing with it rich experience andlegacy. Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (West) VikasSwarup said India'spresence on the Security Council and performance there over the next two yearswill underscore the value that a country like India brings to the table and reaffirmcredentials to be a permanent member of UNSC. He said India's work in theUNSC will be guided by Prime Minister NarendraModi's call for a reformed multi-lateralism and the dynamic 5S vision - Sammaan, Samvaad, Sahyog, Shanti andSamriddhi. He added that through this approach, India seeks to move towards anew orientation for a reformed multilateral system.Following violent clash between Chinese and Indian military personnel in GalwanValley in Eastern Ladakh, Prime Minister NarendraModi said the martyrdom ofIndian soldiers will not go in vain. He said, India will give a befitting reply to anyonewho tries to impinge upon its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Mr.Modi paidhomage to the martyred soldiers and remembered their valour. He said, India is apeace loving nation which thrives on the principle of sacrifice and endurance.Prime Minister Modi asserted that India always strives to reach out to its neigh-bouring countries in order to arrive at a common consensus. Meanwhile, ExternalAffairs Minister S Jaishankar and the State Councillor and Foreign Minister ofChina had a phone conversation on recent developments in Ladakh on 18 June.In response to a query on the statement by the Chinese side that the sovereigntyof the Galvan valley area belongs to China,MEA Spokesperson Anurag Srivasta-va said, both sides have agreed that the overall situation should be handled in aresponsible manner and that the understandings reached between Senior Com-manders on 6th June should be implemented sincerely. The Spokesman said,making exaggerated and untenable claims is contrary to this understanding.Elections for 19 Rajya Sabha seats spread over eight states was held on 19 June2020. Oceanography or allied subject with at least first class (60%) at graduation as wellas post graduation level or Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology froma recognized University or equivalent.

ii) 21 years (18 years with Ph.D) experience in research and development, survey,administration, planning, teaching (at graduate or post graduate level),supervision or training in the relevant field.

Desirable:-i) Ph.D in any branch of Science related in the relevant field or Master's degree in

Engineering or Technology from a recognized University.ii) Experience in policy making, planning or management related to ocean and

marine sciences/technology or management of projects in the relevant field.Job Description: The Director who is the Chief Executive Officer of the NIOT, isresponsible for formulation, development and implementation of various technologymission mode programmes and other technical support activities implemented byNIOT. He is also responsible for formulation of planning, administration and functioningof the Centre as well as for the execution of the in-house R&D activities.Scale of Pay: The post of Director is in the Pay Level 14 of Pay Matrix (Rs. 144200-218200) and other allowances as per the rules of the Institute.Age limit: For Direct recruits preferably below 55 years.
