During the lockdown period on account of corona virusdisease it has become almost an integral part of our livesand helping us to keep ourselves fit mentally andphysically. Associal-distancing has reduced our physical movements, itis important to uplift vitality without having to step out ofthe comfort of your home. gears up to celebrate the International Day of Yoga on21st June, let us try and unravel the mysteries of theworld of Yoga. Most people in this country believe thatyoga is just postures which unfortunately are not truetoday.

The Sanskrit root yuj means to "bind," or "join together."Yoga means "Union" or "Oneness. In our experience

when everything becomes one. At the deepest spirituallevel, yoga allows us to reveal the Self, the True Essenceof our Being. Yoga is a way of life, an art of righteousliving or an integrated system for the benefit of the body,mind and inner spirit.

It concentrates on the emotional and psychologicalhealth of a patient along with his/her physical condition.'Asanas' (physical exercises) and 'pranayama' (breathing

techniques), the integral parts of yoga, are performed incorrelation with each other. Yoga today is considered farsuperior to all exercises, because in Yoga the emphasisis not just on exercises but on mind control and abalanced diet as well.

everyone to fight against coronavirusdisease (Covid-19). Yoga helps toenhance ones immunity and keep oneselfhealthy. Morarji Desai National Institute ofYoga (MDNIY) is the National Institutionfully funded by Ministry of AYUSH, Govt.of India. MDNIY is a focal Institute forPlanning, Training, Promotion andCoordination of Yoga Education, Training,Therapy and Research in all its aspects.MDNIY aims to promote deeperunderstanding of Yoga philosophy andpractices based on classical Yogaamongst people. The main Vision andMission of the Institute is ''Health,Harmony and Happiness for all throughYoga''.

The Morarji Desai National Institute ofYoga (MDNIY) is also active in India’s fightagainst coronavirus disease (Covid-19)along with Ministry of AYUSH,Government of India. The MDNIY hastaken several initiatives like research incollaboration with the prestigiousorganizations and hospitals like Lady

Hardinge Medical College (LHMC), AllIndia Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS), National Institute of Immunology(NII), Delhi. Also, there are various yogictraining programmes’ like “COVID warriorstraining”, “Stay home, stay fit with MDNIY-Practice Yoga at Home”, “Yoga at Homefor active, fitter and healthier you andPractice yoga at home” actively runningonline on digitalized platform by MDNIY.

The MDNIY is addressing Covid-19pandemic problem through clinical studiesfor Yoga, with studying the impact of yogainterventions on people exposed toCOVID-19 patients and yoga forrehabilitation of people recovered fromCOVID-19. The MDNIY has set up aninterdisciplinary research anddevelopment task force with a group ofexperts to formulate and developstrategies for this initiative.

body. Yoga helps to build up psycho-physiological health, pranic balance,emotional harmony; and manage dailystress and its consequences.

Yoga is particularly useful in conditionswhere stress is believed to play a role.Various Yogic practices such asYogasanas, Pranayama, Dhyana(meditation), cleansing and relaxationpractices etc. are known help modulatethe physiological response to stressors.Several randomized controlled studieshave shown the efficacy of Yogicpractices in management of non-communicable diseases likehypertension, Chronic ObstructivePulmonary disease (COPD), bronchialasthma, diabetes, sleep disorders,depression, obesity, etc. that can be co-morbid conditions in patients with COVID19. Yoga has also been shown to beuseful in vulnerable population such aselderly, children. The function of theimmune system is critical in the humanresponse to infectious disease. A growingbody of evidence identifies stress as acofactor in infectious diseasesusceptibility and outcomes.

Yoga has a significant role in thepsycho-social care and rehabilitation ofCOVID-19 patients in quarantine andisolation. They are particularly useful inallaying their fears and anxiety.Management of stress & anxiety,depression, improving immunity andpsychosocial rehabilitation is alsowarranted in this current scenario ofCOVID-19.

Yoga based life style modules whichcan be used for different sections of thesociety in the present scenario arepresented with the following objectives.

1. To improve immunity againstinfections in general among thepopulation.

2. To reduce susceptibility to infectionsin vulnerable populations (children,elderly and those with comorbidconditions such as diabetes andhypertension) and to those patients inisolation / quarantine with or without mildsymptoms.

Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India hasalso released advisory vetted from yogaexperts. Advisory provides guidelines foryoga professionals (Certified Yogaprofessionals/teachers/ instructors andtherapists etc.) to teach a safe set of Yogapractices based on available scientificevidences, to novices in all walks ofsociety as a service to humanity duringthis pandemic of COVID -19. Followingare the general guidelines andprecautions for yoga practices.

GENERAL GUIDELINES ANDPRECAUTIONS FOR YOGAPRACTICES:

Yoga practitioner should follow theguiding/precautionary principles givenbelow while performing/preparing forYogic practices:

Before the practice:Perform the Yoga practices according

to one’s capacity, cleanliness ofsurroundings, body and mind. Practiceshould be performed with a relaxed bodyand mind and in empty stomach. Usemattress, Yoga mat, durrie or foldedblanket and wear light and comfortablecotton clothes. Yoga should not beperformed in a state of exhaustion, in ahurry or in an acute stress conditions. Incase of chronic disease/ pain/ cardiac

problems pregnancy/surgery etc, aphysician or a Yoga therapist should beconsulted prior to performing Yogicpractices.

During the practice:Practice sessions should start with a

prayer. It should be performed slowly, in arelaxed manner, with awareness of thebody and breath. Breathing should bealways through the nostrils unlessinstructed otherwise. There are contra-indications/ limitations for each Yogapractice and such contra-indicationsshould always be kept in mind. Yogasession should end with meditation/ deepsilence / Sankalpa / Santipa?ha etc.

AFTER PRACTICE:It is advised to take bath after 20-30

minutes of Yoga practice. Food may betaken only after 30-45 minutes of Yogapractice.

Yoga Practices for prevention,rehabilitation and to increase immunity.

1. Shodhana Kriya (Yogiccleansing practices): It includesJalaneti, Sutra Neti Kapalbhati whichhelps in cleansing sinuses, beneficial inallergic conditions and reduces upperairway reactivity.

2. Yogic Sukhma Vyayamas/shithi-likarana Vyayamas/ Pawanamuktasana

series (Joint movements): It includesmovements of Neck, Shoulder rotation,Trunk movement, Knee movement, Anklerotation which helps to increase bloodcirculation, reduce stiffness, enhancesjoint flexibility and helps to facilitate asanapractices.

3. Yogasana: It includes Standing,Sitting, Prone & Supine lying postures.Tadasana, Trikonasana, Ushtrasana,Utthana Mandukasana, Vakrasana,Bhujangasana, Sarala Matsyasana etc.practices improves chest expansion andcardio-pulmonary functions.

4. Kapalbhati: Improves pulmonaryfunctions and reduces secretions. Veryuseful preparatory practice for pranayamapractice. Helps to cleanse frontal sinuses.

5. Breathing & Pranayama: It includesSectional breathing, Nadishodhana,Ujjayi & Bhramari.

Nadishodhan pranayama reduces thesympathetic activity and stimulatevagal (para-sympathetic) activity anddecreases stress and anxiety.Ujjayi increase the oxygen saturationin body. Bhramari pranayama similar tohumming may increase Nasal NitricOxide (NO), which may improveblood flow to the ciliary epithelium and

has anti-inflammatory action6. Yoga Nidra (Pratyaahara):

Reduction in sympathetic arousal andreduced emotional distress and improvesquality of sleep. Rejuvenate the body andhelps to keep the mind calm.

7. Meditative practices (Breathawareness, Dharana & Dhyana):Meditation helps to reduces anxiety andstress by reduce the cortisol level andenhance the alpha brain wave. Makes thebody stable and calm the mind. Balancethe functions of neuro-endocrine systemthereby enhance the immune systemWith these guidelines, He wishes a goodhealth for everyone. People should followthe guidelines, while practicing yoga tomanage stress, enhance immunity andstay safe & healthy.

Professional qualification inthe field of Yoga is impartedat both under graduate andpost graduate levels. Forseeking admission to undergraduate program, one mustpass 10+2 in any stream froma recognized Board.

For post-graduationprogram, minimumqualification is a Bachelor'sdegree in any stream from arecognized University,although philosophygraduates are givenpreference. Courses areavailable in degree/diplomaand certificate levels. Attimes, specific qualification isnot required. Instead,experience is counted in thisfield. There is not any agelimit for admission in Yogacourses.

NATIONALIndia has beenelected as nonp e r m a n e n tmember ofUNSC for term2021-22. Indiawas electedu n o p p o s e dbeing the solecandidate forthe Asia Pacificseat. This wasmade possible because Afghani-stan had withdrawn in India's favour. India's twoyear term will begin on the 1st of January 2021. This will be the eighth time thatIndia will be serving on the security council bringing with it rich experience andlegacy. Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (West) VikasSwarup said India'spresence on the Security Council and performance there over the next two yearswill underscore the value that a country like India brings to the table and reaffirmcredentials to be a permanent member of UNSC. He said India's work in theUNSC will be guided by Prime Minister NarendraModi's call for a reformed multi-lateralism and the dynamic 5S vision - Sammaan, Samvaad, Sahyog, Shanti andSamriddhi. He added that through this approach, India seeks to move towards anew orientation for a reformed multilateral system.Following violent clash between Chinese and Indian military personnel in GalwanValley in Eastern Ladakh, Prime Minister NarendraModi said the martyrdom ofIndian soldiers will not go in vain. He said, India will give a befitting reply to anyonewho tries to impinge upon its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Mr.Modi paidhomage to the martyred soldiers and remembered their valour. He said, India is apeace loving nation which thrives on the principle of sacrifice and endurance.Prime Minister Modi asserted that India always strives to reach out to its neigh-bouring countries in order to arrive at a common consensus. Meanwhile, ExternalAffairs Minister S Jaishankar and the State Councillor and Foreign Minister ofChina had a phone conversation on recent developments in Ladakh on 18 June.In response to a query on the statement by the Chinese side that the sovereigntyof the Galvan valley area belongs to China,MEA Spokesperson Anurag Srivasta-va said, both sides have agreed that the overall situation should be handled in aresponsible manner and that the understandings reached between Senior Com-manders on 6th June should be implemented sincerely. The Spokesman said,making exaggerated and untenable claims is contrary to this understanding.Elections for 19 Rajya Sabha seats spread over eight states was held on 19 June2020. Of the 19 seats, four each are from Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat, three eachfrom Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, two from Jharkhand, and one each fromManipur, Mizoram and Meghalaya.In Karnataka, where elections were to be held for four seats, all the candidateshave been declared elected unopposed. They are former prime minister HDDeveGowda, Congress leader MallikarjunKharge, BJP candidates IrannaKadadiand Ashok Gasti.BJP nominee NabamRebia was also elected unopposed to thelone RajyaSabha seat from Arunachal Pradesh. Election Commission made elab-orate arrangements for the voting keeping in mind the coronavirus pandemic.Every voter (MLA) was screened for body temperature and was asked to usemask and adhere to social distancing norms.India's first infectious disease diagnostic lab is now ready. This rapid responsemobile labrotary is part of government Aatmnirbhar Bharat. This labrotary wasbuilt in a record time of eight days from the date of receipt of Automotive Chassis,from Bharat Benz. It is built with the support of Department of Bio-Technology. Thelab is a BSL-2 facility with on site Elisa, real-time reverse tranion polymerasechain reaction (rRT-PCR) test and Bio chemistry analysers. This lab can test Elisaabout 200 per day and RTPCR about 50 per day.

BUSINES/ECONOMYPrime MinisterNarendra Modion 18 Junelaunched theaction of 41coal mines forc o m m e r c i a lmining viavideo confer-ence, fullyopening thecoal and miningsector for com-petition, capital, participation, and technology. Addressing the video conference,Mr Modi said allowing the private sector in commercial coal mining is unlockingresources of a nation with the world's fourth largest reserves. Criticising last poli-

cies of keeping the sector closed, the Prime Minister said India should be theworld's biggest coal exporter considering the size of reserves.He pointed out theirony that India has the fourth largest coal reserve in the world, is the secondlargest producer in the world, but is also the second largest coal importer. ThePrime Minister said the reforms in the coal sector are a great way to make Easternand Central India, and the tribal belt the pillars of development. He said there are16 aspirational districts in the country which have large reserves of coal but havenot benefited the local people as much as they should have. He said newresources will open up and states will get more revenue and employment. The Govern-ment has liftedthe export banon anti-malarialdrug Hydroxy-c h l o r o q u i n ewith immediateeffect. Direc-torate Generalof ForeignTrade in a noti-fication said,the exportpolicy of Hydroxychloroquine Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients, API and its for-mulations from prohibited to free with immediate effect.The government on 25thof March had banned the export of the drug in the wake of the outbreak of COVID-19 Pandemic.

INTERNATIONALMore than eight million cases of the Novel Coronavirus have been confirmedworldwide this week including more than 4,35,000 fatalities. According to JohnsHopkins University, with over 21 lakh cases and over one lakh 18 thousanddeaths, the US continues with the world's highest number of COVID-19 infectionsand fatalities.In terms of cases, Brazil comes in the second place with around ninelakh infections. Regarding fatalities, Brazil has overtaken the United Kingdom inthe second position with over 43 thousand COVID-19 deaths.This was followedby Russia, India, the UK and Spain.Nepal's upper house of Parliament on 18 Junes passed the constitution amend-ment bill, changing the map of Nepal to include Lipulek, Kalapani and Limpiyad-hura. Reacting to this, India has said the artificial enlargement of claims by Nepalis not based on historical fact or evidence and is not tenable.External Affairs Min-istry spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said it is violative of current understandingto hold talks on outstanding boundary issues.

It is proposed to fill up vacancies in the following ranks in the Intelligence Bureau underthe Ministry of Home Affairs on absorption/deputation (including short term contractbasis) as mentioned below. The educational qualifications, experience and othereligibility conditions for the post are furnished below.1. Senior Research Officer (2 vacancies), General Central Service (Group-A),Gazetted, Non-Ministerial in the Pay Band 3: Rs. 15600-39100 with the grade payof Rs. 6600/-(Level 11 of the pay matrix Rs. 67700-208700 as per 7th CPC).Eligibility : Promotion/Deputation (including short term contract)Officers under the Central/State Governments/Union Territories/Universities/Recognized Research Institutions/Public Sector Undertakings/Statutory/Semi-Government or Autonomous Organizations :-(a) (i) holding analogous post on regular basis; or(ii) with five years' regular service in posts in the Pay Band 3, Rs. 15600-39100 plusgrade pay of Rs. 5400 or equivalent; or(iii) with seven years' regular service in posts in the Pay Band 2, Rs. 9300-34800 plusgrade pay of Rs, 4600 or equivalent; and(b) Possessing the educational qualifications and experience as follows:(i) Master's degree in Economics/Statistics/Business Administration/Management orCommerce from a recognized University or equivalent.(ii) Five years' experience in Macro-Economic Analysis/Research work andpreparation of report on contemporary economic issues and future economic trends.Desirable : Knowledge of Econometrics Techniques for forecasting production andavailability of essential commodities, the estimation of broad economic trends, thepublic distribution system, procurement policy.Note-1 : Qualifications are relaxable at the discretion of the UPSC in case ofcandidates otherwise well qualified.Note-2 : Qualification(s) regarding experience is/are relaxable at the discretion of theUPSC in the case of candidates belonging to scheduled castes or scheduled tribes. Ifat any stage of selection, the UPSC is of the opinion that sufficient number ofcandidates from these communities possessing the requisite experience is not likely tobe available to fill up the posts reserved for them.Note-3 : The Departmental Research Officer (Economic Research) with five years'regular service in the grade shall also be considered along with outsiders and in casehe is selected for appointment to the post the same shall be deemed to have beenfilled by promotion.Note-4 : The departmental officers in the feeder category who are in the direct line ofpromotion shall not be eligible for consideration for appointment on deputation.

Similarly, deputationists shall not be eligible for consideration for appointment bypromotion. Period of deputation/contract including period of deputation/contract inanother ex-cadre post held immediately preceding this appointment in the same orsome other organization/department of the Central Government shall ordinarily notexceed three years.Note-5 : The maximum age limit for appointment by deputation shall be not exceeding56 years as on the closing date of receipt of applications.3. Library & Information Officer (1 vacancy), General Central Service (Group-A),Gazetted, Non-Ministerial in the Pay Band 3: Rs. 15600-39100 with the grade payof Rs. 6600/-(Level 11 of the pay matrix Rs. 67700-208700 as per 7th CPC).Eligibility : Composite Method [Deputation (including short term contract) plusPromotion] Officers of the Central Govt. or State Governments or Union territories or Universitiesor Recognized Research Institutions or Public Sector Undertakings or Semi-Government, Autonomous or Statutory Organizations:(a) (i) holding analogous posts on regular basis in the parent cadre or department; or(ii) with five years' service in the grade rendered after appointment thereto on regularbasis in the posts in pay band-3, Rs. 15600-39100 plus Grade pay of 5400/-orequivalent in the parent cadre or department; or (iii) with seven years' service in the grade rendered after appointment thereto onregular basis in posts in Pay Band-2, Rs. 9300-34800/- plus Grade Pay of Rs. 4600/-or equivalent in the parent cadre or department; and(b) Possessing the following qualifications and experience, namely:-(i) Master's Degree in Library Science or Information Science or Documentationscience from a recognized University or Institute; and (ii) Seven years' professionalexperience in a Public or Institutional Library.2. The departmental Assistant Library and Information Officer in Pay Band-2, Rs. 9300-34800/- plus Grade pay of Rs. 4600/- possessing a Bachelor's Degree from arecognized University and a Bachelor's Degree in Library Science from a recognizedUniversity with seven years' regular service in the grade shall also be considered alongwith outsiders and in case he is selected for appointment to the post, the same shallbe deemed to have been filled by promotion.Note-1 : Where juniors who have completed their qualifying or eligibility service arebeing considered for promotion, their seniors shall also be considered provided theyare not short of the requisite qualifying or eligibility service by more than half of suchqualifying or eligibility service or two years, whichever is less, and have successfullycompleted their probation period for promotion to the next higher grade along with theirjuniors who have already completed such qualifying or eligibility service.Note-2 : For the purpose of computing the minimum qualifying service for promotion,the service rendered on a regular basis by an officer prior to 1st January 2006 or thedate from which the revised Pay structure based on the Sixth Central Pay Commissionrecommendations has been extended, shall be deemed to be service rendered in thecorresponding grade pay or pay scale extended based on the recommendations of thePay Commission.Note-3 : The departmental officers in the feeder grade who are in the direct line ofpromotion will not be eligible for consideration for appointment on deputation.
