meet with Paul Leong Architect and Terry Chiu, restaurant designer, re:
plan to NOT build time limit approved deck under DE405159 and instead
do a cover over existing permanent deck. Took previous de plans and
photos to Design Rev iew.
DOP's initial comments:
* cover should be light / metalas opposed to heav ier , permanent
struc t ure. Should be light and well designed, not too high.
* need site section showing view issue from building to east. May need
to do a notification depending on concerns. I may do site v isit at some
point
* may require some acoustical analysis to see whether t here is
opportunity to mitigate any additional noise created by t he possibility
that the deck will become LESS seasonal do t he improvements such as
heating, etc.
* t he cover is to be time limited to allow time to see if there is an
increase in impact resulting from increased use of deck.
Thus main concerns are increase in use of deck ( less seasonal) & impact
both on neighbours and parking. Parking is non-conforming (see history
in DE). The new deck approved under DE405159 was seen as "seasonal" and
therefore we looked at the parking as existing non-confomring.

talked to Masai Matamoto 805-4040 on phone re: comments she heard from s
oneone t hat t his site may be heritage, was built in 1800's, and might be
protected (?). The building on the site (Boathouse rest.) is not herita
ge and t here have not been discussionsabout it being heritage, and it ap
pears to have been built in 1931 accordiong to Vanmap. There are only t w
o heritage resources in 1700 blcok Beac h which areBathhouse and bandstan
d and she is aware of these. She also didn't think t h is was about 1215 B
idwell. So I t hink t here must have been discussion of another site?? I s
aid that as far as I knew, from a heritage perspective, t he existing bui
dling could be demolished and site redeveloped under zoning ( issue is
v iew f rom a unit in 1750 Dav ie (new). She is a realtor and represents po
tential buyer. If t here are any other enquiries received in t his regard,
t h is info (no record of site being heritage or having heritage value) c

DB440066 is being issued for t he TEMPORARY installation of Telus
antennas and a small equipment cabinet against the east elevation of the
building. NO extensions w ill be granted to t his permit . The inst allation
MUST be fully removed.
A separate application may be coming in for a permanent installation. A
FULL architectural site plan CLEARLY indicating the parking layout w ill
be required for t his future application. It is unlikely that we w ill
support any furt her reduction in parking. The approved 11 spaces must be
retained.
Further, if t he permanent application (f rom Telus) affects t he Rogers
equipment cabinet, we will require a letter from Rogers ,indicating
know ledge of the work affecting t heir equipment.
NOTE: The parking was approved to be reduced by 1 space under the
Rogers application (DB436770), but for an unknown reason, the approved
site plan did not get attached to t he approved plans and is now missing!
I had looked at that application w ith Bob Adair. It was approved for t he
reduction of 1 parking space to accomodate t he permanant equipment
cabinet for "Rogers". Please ensure all future applications have a
clear site plan show ing an approvable layout with 11 parking spaces. v
