Yarra Junction Primary School
We Care, We Inspire, We Achieve
PRINCIPAL PIECE
WEEK 7 TERM 1 2021
With only four days on-site but five days of work to get through, this week sure has been
jam packed! This week has been further challenged by several staff being absent with
illness. Many of our students have also ba"led with some sniffles and snuffles as our
immune systems re-build a$er the 2020 COVID remote period. Like staff, I encourage
families to be mindful of nutri-on, exercise and sleep.
Thank you to our families for your support and understanding with complying with
COVID 19 guidelines from the Department of Educa-on. An updated policy has been
distributed on Compass today. Resilience and Collabora-on are certainly values we need
to draw upon to ensure we work within the guidelines and maintain a posi-ve mindset.
On Monday of next week we will facilitate a weekly assembly with no parents on-site. At
the end of term on Thursday 1st of April we will facilitate our end of term assembly with
no parents on-site however will make the assembly available via Webex.
On Thursday, Cath Mason and I a"ended the Regional Learning Circles with school
leaders from across Victoria. The learning circles promotes collabora-on and work
associated to our partnership with staff from the Differen-ated Support for School
Improvement (DSSI). Sally Naylor, Andrea Lowe and Laura Wilcox work at Yarra Junc-on
Primary School each Tuesday with staff and students to promote best teaching prac-ce
and student learning outcomes.
It has come to my a"en-on that some of our students who ride their bike to and from
school are at risk. It has been observed and reported that two students were seen to ride
across a road and driveways without looking out for vehicles. I encourage parents to
upskill their children in road safety to avoid accidents.
We are permi"ed to have school tours at YJPS. Thereby if you are aware of any families
that have a prep student commencing in the 2022 school year please encourage them to
call the school to book a tour. If you are already a parent at our school and have a child
commencing school in 2022, please pop into the office to complete an enrolment form.
Establishing our prep numbers supports facilita-ng our transi-on programs, helps to
communicate about our informa-on sessions and promotes planning for staff.
