GLOBAL CITIZEN DIPLOMA The Global Citizen Diploma was founded at YIS in 2012 in order to officially recognize our students’ whole education, including learning in the classroom, in the larger context of school and the world beyond. As an optional diploma, the GCD represents a self-selecting group of our most authentically engaged and successful learners.

Students earn this credential by reflecting on their experiences and documenting their learning in a digital portfolio in Core Elements: Communications, Community Engagement, and Global Perspectives; Extended Elements: Academics, Adventure, Apprenticeship, Arts For Life, Digital Citizenship, Fit For Life, Management, Personal Goal; and Advanced Elements: Advanced Academics, Leadership and Personal Accomplishment. Students curate a showcase of their most profound learning, for which a hyperlink is available from our counselors.

Three levels of recognition include the Global Citizen Certificate, Diploma, and Diploma with Distinction. Across the first three cohorts offered the option of pursuing the GCD, approximately 26% of students completed the diploma, with 4% earning distinction.
