VETERAN'S PREFERENCE
Five-point veteran's preference is granted to veterans who receive passing scores for an entrance class and who were discharged
under honorable conditions from active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces during a war, or in a peacetime campaign or expedition for
which a campaign badge has been authorized, including the following wartime periods: 06/27/50 - 01/31/55 (Korean Conflict); during
the period of more than 180 consecutive days, any part of which occurred between 01/31/55 and 10/15/76 (including the Vietnam ·
era), not including active duty for training in Reserves or National Guard; and from 08/02/90 - 01/02/92 (Gulf War). If your service
began after October 15, 1976, you must have received a Campaign Badge, or Expeditionary Medal. Campaigns or expeditions for
which such medals have been authorized include El Salvador, Lebanon, Granada, Panama, Southwest Asia, Somalia, Haiti, Kosovo,
Bosnia and Herzegovina. Medal holders and Gulf War veterans who originally enlisted after September 7, 1980, (or began active
duty on or after October 14, 1982, and have not previously completed 24 months of continuous active duty) must have served
continuously for 24 months or the full period called or ordered to active duty. Note: If your DD-214 does not provide proof of
entitlement for preference, you must obtain an amended DD-214 or other written documentation showing award of Armed Forces
Expeditionary Medal.

Captain Darwin Jones currently supervises the following entities:
District Attorney Liaison:
Works directly with the District Attorney and his assistants, assisting them in any way
necessary to insure the prosecution and conviction of persons arrested in Caddo Parish. Acts as a spokesperson for the Sheriff and works with the District Attorney
and judges in the creation and implementation of programs and classes for alcohol abuse, impaired driving, drivers education classes and drug programs for people arrested on those charges.
Civil:
Supervise the Civil Department who carries out all orders directed to the Sheriff by
the courts, serve legal papers, conduct seizures of movable and real prop~rty, and other mandates to him by the District Court, Court of Appeals, Supreme Court,
Juvenile Court and all other courts.
Fines and Bonds:
Supervise the director and clerks in this department as they process and maintain all bonds made in Caddo Parish. The department provides notice of comt dates to defendants, bondsman, sureties and work with the D.A. on bond forfeitures, collect and disburse money collected for fines, court costs, traffic tickets, probation fees and
restitution to victims. Department works directly with the D.A., judges, and Clerk of
Court to insure that all persons charged with a crime, or ticketed for any offense,
receive proper notice and credit for fine paid or time served.
Probation Division:
Department supervises people who are placed on misdemeanor probation by First Judicial District Court for Caddo Parish. They are responsible for the supervision of an average of more than 850 people on probation at any one time including assigned
community service and court assigned classes.
Warrants:
CPSO department that works to apprehend and extradite fugitives locally and from
throughout the United States to Caddo Parish. Maintain an inventory of over 8500 warrants from various agencies.
Courthouse Security:
Responsible for various levels of security provided to Government Plaza, Caddo
Parish Courthouse, the Bickham Building, and Caddo Juvenile Court and their
annex. Train employees from various agencies on emergency actions plans to
include fire and active shooter drills.
SRT (Special Response Team):
Jones is the SR'T Commander, he is responsible for planning and supervising
Special Operations, High Risk SWAT Operations, Street Level Interdiction,
Directed Patrol Operations, Knock and Talk Operations, Raid Planning and
Execution, Tactical Planning, SRT Training, Mass arrest Situations, Riot and Civil
Unrest Situations, VIP Protection, and supervising SWAT personnel.

On October 18, 2010, Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator promoted Darwin L.
Jones to the rank of Captain. Jones graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts
degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Wiley College in May of 2009. Most
recently, he was inducted into the Eta Theta Chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma, a National
Criminal Justice Honor Society at the University of Phoenix.
Jones graduated from the University of Phoenix February 2011 with a Master of
Science Degree in Administration of Justice and Security (3.85 GPA). He is Deacon and
Sunday School Teacher at the Peaceful Rest Missionary Church, under the leadership of
his brother, Rev. Dr. R. Timothy Jones. Darwin is happily married to local Attorney Ree
J. Casey-Jones and has two sons, DeMarcus and Dawson Jones. His parents are Ennis
and Thelma Jones of Shreveport, La.

Quantico, Virginia in January of 2013. Captain Jones currently serves as a Criminal
