Did you know...For over 50 years the Museums of Western Colorado have been serving the residents and visitors of Mesa County. Last year nearly 69,000 people visited one or more of our three Museums; 61% of those were children and families. Many of these families made the Grand Valley a “destination” specifically because they wanted to visit one of our sites! The educational and economic impact of the Museums of Western Colorado is a major contributor to the vitality of the Grand Valley.
Dinosaur Journey Museum‘s hands-on, interactive exhibits gained national recognition in 2015 when the Travel Channel named Dinosaur Journey one of “America’s Best Dinosaur Exhibits.” In addition, Dinosaur Journey’s Paleontology Expeditions were recognized by Yahoo Travel as one of “10 Places to Get Your Paleo On.” This summer, a rare skull was discovered by a 10 year old boy on one of our Dinosaur Digs!
The Museum of the West interprets over a thousand years of Western Colorado history including the spectacular Philip and Gail Holstein collection. This collection features rare prehistoric pottery from Ancestral Pueblo, Hohokam, and Mimbres cultures.
Cross Orchards Historic Site provides a glimpse “back in time” for over one thousand school children each year and is also widely known for making one of the best apple ciders in Western Colorado!
Your continued support will help us to safeguard the historical and paleontological legacies of Western Colorado for generations to come.
$50.00 Will replace an apple tree at our Cross Orchards Historic Site.
$100.00Will aid in the creation of Heritage and Paleontology kits that will be used to engage elementary students throughout Mesa County.
$250.00 Will support conservation and processing of a priceless Native American artifact.
$500.00 Will help Dinosaur Journey Museum to build the skeleton of a baby Apatosaurus.
$1,000 Will help fund the cost of travelling exhibits at Dinosaur Journey and the Museum of the West.
