1. Beneficiaries must have a valid ID card to access military bases and benefits such as medical and dental.

2. The ID card states on the back, in the “Medical” block, whether you are eligible for medical care from military or civilian sources.

3. Each family member’s eligibility must be updated separately when changes occur.

4. Any changes that impact you or your family (e.g., marriage, birth, divorce, death) need to be reported to DEERS so that eligibility can start or stop under DoD and Service guidance.

ID Cards for Children:

1. Children under age 10 can normally use the ID Card of their parent, but they must be registered in DEERS.

2. At the age of 10, the sponsor should obtain and ID Card for the child.

3. Children under 10 should also have an ID Card of their own when in the custody of a parent or guardian who is not eligible for benefits.

4. Children are eligible for benefits until they are 18 years of age.

5. After they turn 18 years old, until they are 23 years old, they continue to be eligible only if they are attending college.

6. Dependent children after 23 can be enrolled in Tricare Young adult. The ID card is only issued after the application process is completed and the premium is paid.

benefits will be suspended after 180 days if not provided)

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS-ALL ORIGINALS-

1. Birth Certificate (if the sponsor is the father, not married to the mother, and his name is not on the birth certificate then a court document establishing paternity must be presented.

2. SSN Card (not required to add but benefits will be suspended after 180 days if not provided)

This is Transitional Assistance Management Program.

- This program allows Soldier’s and family members to receive 180 days (6 months) of active duty benefits pre/post deployment.

- Also allows 18 months additional active duty benefits (non-medical), post-deployment.

TRICARE STANDARD-family members are automatically enrolled 180

days pre-deployment.

TRICARE PRIME-family members must be enrolled by sponsor.

TRICARE RESERVE SELECT-premium based health plan available to Soldier’s

and family members during non-deployment periods.
