The radical and innovative new YZF-R1 features the most exciting and innovative engine and chassis technology ever seen on this model in its illustrious 11 year history.

Featuring an all-new 998cc short-stroke big-bore engine which has been heavily influenced by the design of our MotoGP World Championship-winning M1, the new R1 reinforces its reputation as one of the most outstanding machines in the large-capacity supersport class.

The defining feature of the new R1 is its special crossplane crankshaft which is designed to deliver a purer torque output and high levels of traction. Featuring an uneven 270° - 180° - 90° - 180° firing interval, this race-developed design gives the R1 rider a precise and immediate feeling of control over torque output levels.

In addition to its remarkable new engine, the 2009 R1 is equipped with a new short-wheelbase aluminium Deltabox chassis which runs with opti-mized front and rear suspension systems. And with its aggressive new styling and enhanced concentration of mass, the all-new R1 is a born winner!

YZF-R6

Cutting-edge supersport technology

Few other 600cc supersport bikes come close to matching the advanced technology that comes as standard equipment on the outstanding YZF-R6.

For breathtaking performance on the street and track, the high performance R6 engine runs with a 13.1:1 compression ratio, and benefits from Yamaha’s highly sophisticated YCC-I (Yamaha Chip Controlled Intake) and YCC-T (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle) electronic control systems.

The ultra-compact chassis design features a sharp-handling aluminium Deltabox frame that has been designed to offer an idealised rigidity balance. Its innovative magnesium subframe helps to minimise overall weight and enhance the bike’s concentration of mass, and the specially-developed seating position keeps the rider low for optimal aerodynamic efficiency.

Genuine Factory Racing Parts for the R1 and R6

Yamaha Motor Engineering is the only officially-approved supplier of racing parts for Yamaha R-series machines, and the company has developed a range of high-performance YEC Racing Parts for the R1 and R6 for 2009. The business is wholly-owned by Yamaha, and therefore you can be sure that every YEC Racing Part is designed and manufactured to enhance the performance of the stock R1 and R6 for racing.

YEC Racing Parts are developed in-house, and this allows us to thoroughly test and evaluate every component before a new model is released for sale to the public. Being owned by Yamaha, we have exclusive access to new model technical specifications, and this ‘inside information’ has al-lowed us to create a whole new range of YEC engine and chassis parts for the all-new 2009 R1 – and these will be available shortly after the model is launched in the showrooms. YEC Racing Parts are developed using valuable input from our World Superbike and World Supersport racing teams, as well as from our factory test riders. Testing and development of prototype designs is carried out by MG Competition, the highly-respected team that runs the Team YZF Yamaha squad. Several dedicated development engineers work exclusively on the YEC Racing Parts programme and this ensures that every new component meets Yamaha’s strict quality control standards.
