The bus was nearly empty. Suddenly, an accident happened. The driver had a heart attack and the bus crashed into a car. I felt scared – I had a broken leg and my friend had a cut on her head. Fortunately, I had my mobile phone in my pocket so I called our parents. They came quickly and they took us to the hospital. The doctor said, ‘Your leg will be fine in a month.

11:05 pm – I’m flying right now. It’s so nice! I love it! But something strange is happening. I can smell something burning. Oh, I’ve got a bad feeling about this...11:10 pm – Oh, my! I’m falling! The plane’s left wing is on fire! I won’t write for a bit. I’ve got a big problem...11:20 pm – The plane fell...and I was on it! I guess that the book, my book, won’t be famous! Anyway, now I’m in a very strange place. I can’t see very well. OK, I have to go now, to meet the others! Meet my grandma, my grandpa and my old friends. Didn’t I tell you? I became a ghost after the plane crashed. Can anyone stay alive after that? Boo!

But your friend unfortunately needs stitches on her head.’ I was very anxious about Athena, and I felt pain in my leg for a month. But now, my friend and I are all right!

Anna Prapa, MI4Yesterday, my family and I travelled by boat to see my grandmother in Patras. On the boat, there were a lot of young passengers. The weather was very good, so all the young passengers were looking at the sea. Suddenly, the boat hit something and broke into two pieces...a shark ate one of them and the other one sank! The passengers tried not to panic. Fortunately, there were life boats. And then...I heard my mother's voice...it was all a dream!

I went to the cinema two weeks ago with my best friend and my parents. We saw ‘The life of Pi’. It was an adventure. There was an Indian man Pi. had a map. Suddenly we heard a noise. We were so scared that we left the map and we started to run. As we were running, the noise was getting louder and it seemed to be following us. We were lost. We were very scared, but finally the noise stopped. We tried to find a way to get out of the wood. Finally, we found our way, but nobody knows, even now, what it was following us...

suddenly the crew made an announcement that we had to leave the plane because there was a bomb on board. All the passengers thought that it was a terrorist action and they were scared. After a few minutes, the plane was empty and the security guards searched for the bomb very carefully. They didn’t find anything, so the crew got us on board again. Then, they made another announcement that everything was OK and it was just a joke. The plane took off, and our trip was amazing!

This story happened last year. My family went on a trip into the mountains. While we were driving, a wild deer went onto the road. Then, I saw my whole life flashing past my eyes, from my childhood until now – after this, we crashed into a tree. My mum was yelling, but my father told us in a very serious voice to calm down and find a way to leave the car in safety. After about two minutes, an idea came into my head that we should get out of the car and get to the trees, so we could hold on to them. After this, we had to think about what to do next, because we were in the middle of nowhere and our phones didn’t have a signal. So, we started thinking and thinking until I realised that my phone battery had enough energy for one last call, so I called 100 and I told them to come and help us. When they finally came, they asked us what had happened and we explained to them that while we were driving up the mountain, a wild deer ran into us and we lost control of the car. The police went to find the deer to see if it needed medical help. When they found it, they realised that the deer was bleeding and that we needed to get it to the hospital immediately, but sadly we we couldn’t make it to the hospital and it died on the way there.

Many people go to work in their car or on the metro. Sometimes, but especially when it rains, you can’t move on the roads! They are very, very busy. After school, a lot of children have activities. I have dance and swimming lessons twice a week. After that, I do my homework. Many children play computer games after they finish their homework. At dinner time, dad isn’t at home, so I have dinner with my mum and my sister. Then I have a bath. I go to bed at about 9 o’clock. At the weekends, when the weather is good, my family and I go on excursions. We like sports and activities. Sometimes we meet our friends and we have a great time! My mum likes baking cakes. At the weekends, we like to watch films on TV and eat our cakes. I like the weekends – they are special family times.

Last summer I went with my family to Rhodes. We had a wonderful time. One day we went to the ‘old city’. In the castle there was a traditional celebration with some knights who were riding black and white horses. They held swords and their leader had a huge helmet. Suddenly they started running around and I was frightened. Be careful’ my mum said. ‘The horse may hit you. Then I climbed on a wall and from there I could see the knights fighting each other. Hundreds of people stood watching the view. After an hour the celebration ended and we returned to the hotel. I’ll never forget that fantastic experience.

One thing I’ll never forget is the last windsurfing competition on the island of Paros. Last summer, while I was on vacation I decided to take part in the windsurfing competition. When the competition began, I was really nervous, but when I saw that I was near the end, I began sailing really fast. When I was at the finish I jumped and realised I was third. It was the best day of my life.

I think that my best experience was when I went to Kefallonia. Kefallonia is an island in the Ionian sea. It has very beautiful beaches like Mirtos and very good hotels. It all started one Friday. The school had finished and my family and I wanted to go somewhere for our holidays. My dad suggested going to Kefallonia. At first we weren’t sure, but we agreed. On Sunday we caught a plane and flew there. When we arrived there we went to a hotel. It was big with a sports centre. I made some new friends there, Steve and George. We played football for hours. After that we

Arietta Tsolou, MI5An experience I’ll never forget is my first day at my school. Two years ago, my family decided to move so I had to change schools. I wasn’t so excited about that. I had been at school in Nea Smyrni for years. I had made a lot of friends and I wouldn’t like to lose them. We spent a lot of time together which I’ll never forget. We were together until the fifth class of primary school. Before we moved, I was so anxious and sad. I didn’t want to go to the new school, but I couldn’t do anything about it. When I went there, I thought that I would not make new friends, I would not be a good student but I made a mistake. A lot of children came up

When I was two years old I went with my parents to a playground! I was playing but suddenly I fell down and hurt my head! When my parents saw me, they took me to hospital. The doctor said that I was OK but I had to have a stitch on my head. Now the scar is very small. This is one of the first experiences I remember!

Last summer my family and I went to Crete for seven days. We stayed two days in our house in Rethymnon and then we left Rethymnon and went to our house in a little village on a hill. We met our cousins there. My cousin and I played ball and we really had fun with some board games. We also played with our dog, Rosa. We went out with her, we washed her and gave her food and water. It was really fun. On the sixth day my cousins and I said that we’re going to the little lake up the hill. We started preparing all that we needed. That night no one slept very well. The next day we left. We had Rosa with us. After walking for

an hour,we arrived at the lake. We sat next to the lake and had a picnic. Suddenly Rosa started barking because she had seen a bird. The bird flew above the lake and Rosa jumped and tried to catch it. My cousin Michalis stood up and caught her but he was at the edge of the water. Suddenly they slipped; my other cousin and I stood up quickly and caught him and Rosa when they fell. It was an adventure I’ll never forget.

Hi! I’m Leonard and I have to tell you a story. Last year, my family and I were on our Christmas holiday. While the plane was flying, the weather was really bad...boom...boom...storms everywhere! I was really scared. I thought playing a game would help me feel better, so I turned on my PSP. Suddenly, the pilot of the plane had a heart attack and died! No-one knew how to control the plane, so we crashed. When I woke up, I saw the plane on fire. I looked around to find my family. I started crying, I didn’t know what to do! And then...ding, ding! One day last summer, I was travelling to Spain with my parents, by ship, for our holidays. We were having a good time on the ship. It was big and fast. But one day, something terrible happened. We were sitting on our seats, and suddenly we heard the ship’s alarm. Everyone got frightened! The ship was sinking! We had ten minutes to leave the ship. My father told me to run. The other side of the ship, where there were lifeboats, was not near us. Suddenly, someone pushed me and I fell down – and I lost my parents! Seven minutes passed, and then I saw my mother! I ran to her. When we were all together, we got into a boat. Then, we sailed in the sea until somebody found us...

I asked him why he had let go of my hand. He started crying and finally he promised that he wouldn’t do that again!

Scary Stories

It was midnight, I walked into the graveyard. I was looking for my uncle’s grave when I saw a ghost. It was big and scary, with the sharpest teeth. I looked at his head and I saw a crown. It was the king of the ghosts. I was scared and I started to run. But the ghost

It was midnight in Los Angeles and the wind was whistling through the trees….Suddenly a strange man with black clothes was walking in the park. Then he started to scream. Many people went out of their houses to see what was going on. A branch fell on the man’s head

I woke up... It was almost midnight and something very dirty was under my head. But why? I opened my eyes and I saw a strange big rock. On this rock there was something written, I think. But I couldn’t see very well. But three minutes later I could see everything: R.I.P. was written on the rock! I started screaming, but nobody could see me or hear me. I stood up and started walking. But the only thing I was thinking was: ‘Why am I here?’ Then I saw a strange big house. Maybe someone lived there. But when I knocked on the door, nobody answered. I knocked 3 more times, and then somebody opened the door. I couldn’t see who it was and I was scared. When I went inside the house, the door closed. I tried to open it but the door was locked. I couldn’t do anything. I started walking and then a strange light appeared through a wall. ‘It is a ghost!!’, I whispered to myself. I started running because the ghost was chasing me. Then the ghost disappeared! Wait a second…it disappeared? But there was still something under my head. It was my pillow!!! I woke up and started screaming in my house and then I heard someone screaming...Oh, it was my brother who was trying to scare me!

It was midnight and the wind was whistling through the trees outside the old hospital. That night I was exploring. I got in. It was dark and the floor was creaking. As I was walking I heard a noise! It was coming from an old skull. I heard it talking. It was saying: ‘There was a big fire in this hospital years ago. All the people ran out but no-one helped me to get out, so I died in the fire.’ Many years before the fire, a man came, who was very ill and he couldn’t get well. Before he died, he said “If that hospital gets destroyed, all the spirits of the dead people will be revived” . Then I heard someone scream. It was the old man’s ghost . I was scared and I ran out. “That explains many things”, I thought.

It was midnight and the wind was whistling through the trees. I was alone and I was returning from the cinema. I was walking along a small path between some bushes. I wasn’t running but I was walking fast. Suddenly, the lights went out. I couldn’t see very well because the only light I had was from the half moon and the stars. I heard a noise behind me but I didn’t know what it was. I turned and I didn’t see anything I started walking again and I heard chains and then I saw a ghost in front of me. It was white with two red eyes. It wasn’t walking but it was floating. I started running and I didn’t feel safe until I opened my door and entered my house.

about this place. The noises went on and on. The children couldn’t stay any more because they were scared so they tried to leave. Suddenly one of them saw a man turn into a wolf. The boy had a tennis ball in his pocket and he threw it to the wolf man. The wolf man wasn’t dangerous. He was like a little puppy and ran after the ball. The boy finally reached his friends and left this place.

Presents

Panayiotis Katsouranis, SC2

Vassiliki Zafeiropoulou, SC2

People often give each other presents for lots of different reasons. Nowadays people have forgotten the real meaning of why they are doing this and they have ended up getting typical unimportant presents for the people close to them. They tend to buy presents because of social and commercial pressures. The great number of commercials shown on television influence people and make them buy presents that do not have any sentimental value. In addition there are social pressures like the fact that for events like birthdays, anniversaries, and celebrations everyone should get a present. This makes people buy presents reluctantly without their volition and they end up hating the whole procedure. Of course there are a small number of people that actually buy presents in order to show to other people how important they are to them and how much they care about them unconditionally. They buy presents because they really want to do, without social or commercial pressures.

Whenever it’s Christmas, Easter, birthdays, you name it we always give and receive presents. Ask a young child what he likes best about Christmas: he’ll probably say ‘gifts’. But why do we give gifts? There are some who believe that this is a result of social pressure or because of commercials. Others like myself, think this is simply due to our desire to give them. As an ancient Greek philosopher, whose name I can’t remember, once said, we are social beings. We need to accept and be accepted. Many today have wrongly associated that craving with present-giving. In other words gifts are a way for us to socialize. But I think it’s more than that. The joy we see in someone’s face once they hold the package; the surprise pictured on their faces when they open it and see the useless stuff we have bought them; their unsuccessful attempts to hide their disappointment and irritation….priceless! But think of it this way; a present is like chocolate. It’s something you get without realising that you do so as a reward to yourself. That’s indeed the case with gifts; you give them as if to say: “Thank you for being an awesome father, mother, sister, and friend.” Now, what makes a present special? I personally believe that it’s when a gift comes from the heart that it turns into something exceptional. Money means nothing, besides showing you are wealthy. If for example you give a friend a handmade dream

catcher instead of a high quality TV, you have already won a place in her heart. So, next time you go shopping, don’t choose to buy from an expensive mega store: visit the corner shops that are never seen.

that really the case? In a society where people are growing apart despite the progress in communication, do we give presents because we actually want to or because of social pressure on us? On the one hand, there are those people that if asked will answer that giving gifts is a truly heartfelt act. This is what they have in mind when shopping for their loved ones for their birthday or during Christmas. These people know very well that a good present is not an extravagant one, but one the other person is sure to fancy and appreciate. All that matters after all is the thought of purchasing something and not the gift itself. The time you spent in the shops trying to decide shows how much you care, even if you end up buying something cheap. On the other hand there are those people who believe buying presents is just a tradition, a way of being polite and even more, a rule you need to follow so that you are not judged as cold and ignorant. To them, presents are shallow and ingenuine and only serve image enhancement. They believe the more expensive and posh the gift is, the better and richer they appear. To conclude, buying presents can be either wholehearted and sincere or meaningless. The way I see it, people shouldn’t buy and give gifts if they don’t really feel like doing so.

Marilianna Zakkas, SC2

Nowadays, people give and receive presents all the time. On holidays, birthdays, celebrations, or simple visits. But is any one of them a gift from the heart? Christmas, for example, is interwoven with presents. Every year, we all rush to the shops to buy gifts for our friends and family. The exact same thing happens when we are invited to someone’s house or party. As we see, the whole ‘present issue’ has become a yearly routine we do mechanically and most importantly, there is no true thoughtfulness or emotion behind it whatsoever. It’s mostly something modern societies force us to do, something like ‘savoir vivre’, and we just give in to these commercial and social pressures. As a result, we end up giving gifts that end up in attics, or given back to the shops. The ugly truth is that a good present is very rare in our time, and by good, we don’t necessarily mean an expensive one, but a gift from the heart. What makes it worthy is the love that led you to buy it, the effort you make to choose it, the anxiety to see if your friend likes it, your smile when you imagine his reaction. When he realises how carefully you picked his present, he will cherish it for ever, just because it symbolises how much you care about him. To sum up, buying presents isn’t always heartfelt. However we should choose them carefully, so that it won’t end up being a worthless habit.

Giving presents has always been an act of gratitude and love towards the people we most care about. However nowadays is

They Changed the World

Eleftheria Varmazi, SC2

Mariliana Zakkas, SC2

In his early years, his family moved to New Jersey, where he started selling newspapers on trains. He later became a telegraph operator and it was at that time he started inventing. Amongst his greatest inventions are the microphone, the photograph and almost 10000 other patents that contributed to communication. In spite of public opinion, Edison is not the inventor of the electric light bulb, nor is he of course the inventor of electricity as that always existed in nature. What we owe him though is the creation of an electricity distribution system which was essential in order to benefit from the invention of the light bulb. It is this system that has allowed the evolution of our modern technology. It was first used in his power station in Pearl Street, Manhattan New York. In my opinion ,Thomas Edison was a person who changed the world, as well as an example of a hard worker and he should always be remembered as such. He breathed his last on the 18th of October 1931 at his house in Ohio.

Many innovations have changed the world, transforming it into what it is today. However, very few have actually changed the way people act, think and spend their free time. Humanity had reached a point where everyone thought the progress in communications had reached its climax, but just about that time, a student from the University of Harvard was about to change our every day life for ever. His name was Mat Zuckerburg. Mark Eliot Zuckerburg was born in New York on May 14th 1984. He was always interested in computer programming, as he took up writing software as a hobby during middle school. A few years later, the

18 year old Mark was accepted at Harvard, where he studied computer science and psychology. In his sophomore year, Zuckerburg wrote a programme called “Facemask”, as a ‘fun’ project, letting student so in the College network vote on other students’ photo attractiveness. His network quickly evolved into face book. It spread really fast and was widely used at national level, but later on it became known in every part of the planet. Face book has made a huge impact on our lives whether good or bad. First of all, it offers us the opportunity to keep up with our friends’ news and …the Joneses. On the other hand ‘Fb’ is not that beneficial for people unaware of the dangers it hides. Generally the specific social network is a smart and useful tool in our hands, which has really affected our everyday routine, despite its downsides. After Zuckerburg, who else do we have to wait for?

Electricity is without a doubt, the foundation of our modern technology and culture. Take a brief moment to look around you. At least one of the things you see is an electrical device or uses electricity in some way. Without it we couldn’t have computers, fridges, microwaves, modern means of transport, lights and all those things that make our lives much easier, But what of the man behind it? Thomas Edison was born on the 11th of February of 1847, in Milan, Ohio and was the seventh and last kid of his family. Despite being very smart and ingenious, he only attended 3 months of school and teachers reported that his mind often wandered. After dropping out of school, he was taught by his mother at home.

from British domination. The British, not knowing what to do, were forever imprisoning him, but the people always held mass demonstrations, forcing them to let him free. His chief political enemy in Britain, Winston Churchill, ridiculed him as a “half naked fakir”. However he was dedicated to his people, and his beliefs. He saw the villages as the core of the true India and promoted self sufficiency; he did not support the industrialization programmes of his disciple Jawaharlal Nehru. He was a dedicated vegetarian, and undertook long fasts as a means both of self purification and political mobilization. Also Gandhi worked to stop the carnage between Muslims on the one hand and Hindus and Sikhs that raged in the border area between India and Pakistan. Alas, he didn’t have time to complete his work. He was assassinated in January 1948 by a Hindu nationalist who thought Gandhi was too sympathetic to India’s Muslims. Today, 30th January is observed as Martyrs ‘Day in India. People call him “Mahatma” (Great Soul) as well as ‘Bapu’ ( Father) and his is considered to be the Father of the Nation. Inevitably, his birthday, 2nd October, is commemorated there as Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday and world wide as the International Day of Non Violence.

Should you ever go to India, it is absolutely sure you will hear, not once but many times the name “Mahatma Gandhi” .Surley it will not be the first time you have ever heard of the name, but the questions is, do you know who he was? Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, which is his full name, was the leader of Indian nationalism at a time when India was ruled by the British. However it is not the fact that he managed to lead India to independence that made him beloved and popular, but the methods he used, which were solely peaceful, yet uncooperative ones. It is because of the means he used that so many civil rights, freedom and non-violent movements were created all over the world. He was born on 2nd October 1869 and was raised in a Hindu Bain community on coastal Gujarat. Being the son of a senior government official, he soon succeded in becoming a lawyer. He was trained in England and after his studies went to South Africa. There he started fighting for the rights of Muslim and Hindu Indians and started becoming well known all over the world. After some years, he returned to India and continued his struggle but soon realized that if he wanted to persuade the Indians to rise, he had to become one of them. He was nothing more than a stranger to their culture, since he had been away from his country for so many years. He tried and succeeded in following their traditions, for example wearing the traditional Indian dhoti and shawl, woven with yarn he had spun on a charka or living modestly in a self sufficient residential community. Not long after that he started organizing peasants to protest against excessive land taxes, managing to reach out to all religious groups. He was turned into a leader of the Indian Congress in 1921 and led nationwide campaigns to ease poverty, expanding women’s rights, building religious and ethnic amity, ending

untouchability (belonging to or connected with the Hindu social class or caste that was considered by other classes to be the lowest), increasing economic self reliance, and above all for achieving the independence of India

The Worst Day of My LifeTeresa Peleki, SF6

Violet looked at the clock. “I have to run, otherwise I’ll be very late for my interview” she said. She ran into her room and quickly got ready. She grabbed her mobile, bag, keys and coat and raced to the door.-“Don’t forget to take an umbrella!” her brother said.- “I won’t need one” she replied. When she got to the bus station, the bus had just left. Disappointed, anxious and worried, Violet sat and waited for the next bus. The bus was crowded and Violet at last got near the door to get off at the next stop. But while she was getting off, a lady dropped her coffee. Violet slipped on it, but luckily she wasn’t hurt. Her clothes were a mess. She got up angrily and started running to the interview appointment. The sky grew darker, clouds full of rain gathered. After a few minutes, it was raining cats and dogs. Finally Violet, wet, dirty, late and anxious arrived at the office.-“I’m sorry you missed your turn” said the secretary.-“It was a really bad day. Please let me try” said Violet.-“I’m sorry. I could set you up for the next week” the secretary proposed.-“All right” Violet replied disappointed.

It all started, when I had a test in history. Everything was going well and I’d gone to school sure that I was going to write well in the test. I was so confident and so sure that I hadn’t done any last minute revision the day before. I thought I had studied enough. I was waiting calmly and with no stress unitl it was time to go and write the test. When it was time to start I looked at the questions and I realized that I didn’t know the answers because I hadn’t studied one unit of the book. Suddenly everything changed inside me and I felt so disappointed because I had spent time preparing for this test and I was thinking how to tell that to my parents. Then also while I was walking back home after school I fell on the street and broke my wrist. On the same day I had failed a test and I also had a broken wrist. I was feeling like I was the most unlucky person in the world after all that had happened. That was definitely the worst day of my life.

“Write a story about the worst day of your life... Oh, no! I won’t make it by tomorrow. I won’t have my story ready thought Violet.-“Will you have breakfast?” asked her brother when he came into the kitchen. -“I don’t know… What time is it?” - “8:45” he answered.

Late at night, when she got home starved, cold and angry at what had happened, she looked at her papers. She had forgotten something: “My story! I forgot it.” But Violet didn’t go to college next morning. She was in bed with a cold. At least now she knew which worst day she was going to write about in her story.

at 9 o’clock which lasts four hours and then at 3 o’ clock I have an English class until 6 o’clock. Last Saturday though was very special because my school had organized a dancing party and I was hoping to dance with a boy called Mark who I had fancied for ages and I was very excited. But when I returned from my English class and I wanted to start getting ready, my mother told me that I could not go because we had invited my dad’s boss to dinner at an Italian restaurant and he wanted to meet the whole family. As it was so important for my dad I knew that I had no choice I cried in my room for half an hour. Fortunately though, my mum allowed me to take one of my friends with me so that I wouldn’t get bored so I ran to the telephone to call a friend of mine, Sara. She told me that she could come so I stopped crying. In the afternoon, my mum made me wear a horrible dress with flowers on it, and then... Sara phoned to tell me that she couldn’t come because she had broken her leg and could barely walk. I told her that It was OK, even though my eyes were full of tears. When my dad got home, he got dressed and we went to the restaurant. I was really bored. They were talking only about work and no one cared about me. Fortunately, by midnight my dad’s boss had left and we returned home. I was happy because I would have time to see a very nice film that was on TV that night. I switched it on but before I could push the button to tune into the right channel the power went off. I

At the beginning, I felt very angry but when I thought that this day was important for me, I cooled off. After that, we took the cake, we went home and I had a bath. Later I put on my favourite dress and I helped my mum with the food and with the decoration of the house. After a long time waiting for my friends to come to my house they phoned me and they said that they couldn’t come because they had to go to another party. That was an awful day!

A country I’d like to visit is probably Italy. I’d love to visit the Colosseum and all the ancient ruins and temples, so that I could see the engineering and craftsmanship behind Rome and its architects. Who would not like to taste a real Italian pizza or carbonara? Perhaps one could taste some life sweetening tiramisu. I’d like to sing the Duda song in a cathedral and listen to my words echo. I’d like to skydive and land on the Pisa Tower (because taking the stairs would take ages) and then sing the Duda song there, too! I’d like to stay in the most expensive hotel I can find, and make my mum pay for it!

We have a lot of sports channels and reality shows too. Personally, I haven’t got a favourite programme. If I want to watch something, I can go to You Tube and watch it there. That’s the reason why I haven’t got a timetable of when and what to see. I’ve got a lot of free time, I can watch whenever I want and that’s great! I think it is cool to live like that. I’vegot a lot of choice, I can watch my favourite cybersport matches with many different presenters. As far as I’m concerned, it’s much more interesting than watching a match that is presented by just one person because maybe you don’t like that presenter but you have to watch him because the match is interesting. You Tube hasn’t got that problem and that’s fantastic.

Presents

Panagiotis Plytas, SC2Myrto Paparopoulou, SC2

This article is about present giving, an activity which takes place in our every day life and gives us a feeling of satisfaction. No matter how expensive or big they are, presents are a pleasant surprise for every body. As we said, present giving takes place in our every day life which means that presents are not only given at celebrations such as birthdays or Christmas. Instead, they can be given by parents, friends, relatives and others whenever they want to express their love, support, greetings or gratitude to someone without buying something big or expensive. Therefore, presents which are given as a surprise and not because we are obliged to do so, are signs of true love and altruism. Moving on, I’d like to say that buying a present is not as easy as it seems. In fact it can sometimes be really hard because finding something useful can take lots of time and thought. As a result, I believe that the perfect present would include three things. Firstly, its value, which includes all the effort we have put into finding it. Secondly it is really important how useful it is, as it can create a great impression depending how much it is needed. Finally, the way we use it is what makes a good present stand out, due to the variety of uses a present with a helpful and creative design can offer. Concluding, I would like to mention that even though we are sometimes forced to buy a present, giving it is always an action of true solidarity.

I’ve heard a friend once say: ‘I’ll only throw a party, so people will bring me presents.’Presents were first given to Kings and Queens, hosts and hostesses as a ‘thank you’ for being accepted in their kingdoms, palaces and houses. As time went by, presents were given to friends to say ‘Happy Birthday’, ‘Congratulations’, ‘I’m sorry’, ‘I love you’ in a timeless way and just in words. Young people nowadays give presents to each other because of more social and peer pressure and they have become accustomed to following their parents’ habits and less of whether they actually want to. But what makes the right present? It is very important to be aware of the occasion you are going to give something as a present. For example, you are not supposed to give a book to a newly wedded couple nor a pancake maker to a sweet sixteen birthday girl. In my opinion, the perfect present isn’t the one you buy just to say ‘Hey! I bought you something’. It is the one you buy, make or both that you know it will mean something to the other person. This category of presents though, is better for friends and family. If it’s someone you barely know, you should probably buy something with an exchange card.

Nowadays we tend to spend quite a lot of money buying presents for people we like and don’t really like. Whatever the occasion is we buy something for others. But I can’t help but wonder: Why do we givepresents? We give presents to express out love, for example at Christmas, our blessing, birthdays, name days, to say congratulations, baby showers, weddings. But we are missing the point. We worry too much about the type of present and we forget that we will be there for their big moment. How did things turn out this way? We have become so greedy that all we care about what others will think about us. The present giving isn’t from our hearts any more, but it’s a social obligation that we are required to do every time we are invited somewhere. Even though we give presents, some people aren’t as thoughtful as us. We give, give and give and we get nothing in return from them. Another thing is what makes a good present. What would others appreciate? Basically the appreciation is what concerns us the most. Therefore we spend hours and hours finding something that others would like. In my opinion the sentimental presents, the ones that come from the bottom of our hearts are the best, and just the thought is enough. To sum up, we have underestimated the value of gifts. We have taken them for granted. Consequently, we have to see them as actions and words that can’t be said, not just as materials.

It was Easter and I had to visit my grandmother who lived in the town of Corfu. So, when I arrived at the airport, I took a bus to go there.

It was a boring Wednesday like all the others: getting up early, school, home, homework, bed; I mean my daily routine. So, I decided to skip school with my friends and go with them to The Mall. We arranged to meet at the basketball court near our school at 8 o’clock and get to The Mall by metro together. When we arrived there, a friend of mine called me and warned me about one of our classmates who had seen us and told the teacher about it. We started worrying, so we all returned home, where we found out that the school had phoned our parents and we were in a lot of trouble. Fortunately, my mum was aware of it, because I had informed her and got her permission, but she had made me promise not to be discovered. So I was grounded for two weeks and the school suspended my friends and me for five days. To be honest, I don’t know if that was the worst day of my whole life, because at first it was a bit exciting, but I’m quite sure that the days that followed were less entertaining and the most boring days of my 14 years of existence. If I had known what was going to happen, I would be a lot more mindful or even better I wouldn’t have skipped school that day!

The Worst Day of My Life

I wish I had checked which bus I took! After an hour of patience, I was sure that something was going wrong. The bus didn’t stop a single time, only when it arrived at Salanti, the only village in the North of Corfu! After thirty minutes in the sun, another bus passed and I hoped it would take me to the city centre. When I arrived, I took a taxi and read the address to the driver. As soon as I got out of the car, I knew I wasn’t in the town. I looked again at the address and realized it was a doctor’s who lived in the suburbs! Exhausted, with no money left, hungry and tired I waited for any ideas to come outside a small mini market, with the evening sun burning my hands and back. I overheard the shopkeeper saying that he would go to the town for supplies. It was my only chance. I asked him to take me with him and he agreed. I got into the van, read the address three times to make sure it was correct and after thirty minutes he left me exactly where I wanted. So, instead of arriving at two o’clock I arrived at eight, I felt as if I hadn’t eaten for ages and I was ready to sleep. Every time I visit Corfu, I pay great attention to the buses to make sure they’re the right ones. And when I see a bus passing by, I remember the worst day of my life!

I really love extreme sports and I admire a great number of people who do them. I am attracted to many extreme sports but there are couple of them I definitely have to try. One day I really hope to be able to try skydiving. For those who don’t know what it is about, skydiving is a sport where you exit an aircraft and you return to earth using a parachute to slow down during the final part of the descent. I’ve heard that when you skydive, you feel free for 45 to 60 seconds there is nothing but the air and you. If you enjoy speed, danger and heights skydiving is the best sport for you. Not all types of personalities are attracted to extreme sports. In my opinion, in order to be stimulated by an extreme sport, you should be the kind of person who likes taking

The best day of my life begins on a beautiful sunny Monday. That day I was heading to my school to sit an exam in the last and one of the most important subjects of the stream I had chosen back in the 2nd grade of my High school. I had to try to get a very good mark in order to get into the school of engineers for combat aircraft as I had dreamed about it from when I was 10 years old. But that day I thought I had no chance of achieving the mark I needed, because in my class most of my classmates had been studying hard to get into schools requiring as high marks as mine, which was something I hadn’t done. When I finished writing I was stunningly impressed by the ease of the exercises and of course with myself. I couldn’t believe that there was a possibility of me passing the exam with a 20 out of 20 mark, so I looked fast at the book and I realized that I answered all the questions right ! At that point I started jumping in the middle of the street and screaming. I ran to my house to tell my parents the good news. When I went there I hugged them and cried as the dream of my life came true. I promised to myself that I will never forget that day!

risks. In addition, you should like trying new things and you should get excited by speed and danger. If you are a shy personality afraid of heights and speed you shouldn’t even entertain the thought of trying extreme sports. I have to say that I’m really waiting for the day I will skydive. I hope you try an extreme sport during your life because you have to know that life is no fun without a little danger.

Children aren’t obliged to feel like soldiers. They are free to live in their peaceful world. Hope and love, pure qualities which only pure young children can understand, cannot be affected by bombs and assault rifles. On the other hand, the picture may show the peace, which finally always comes and rises above the ruins of war.

Flowers as a weapon. This image represents a ‘peaceful way’ between citizens full of rage and love but the dictatorship steps on their hearts. Revolution is the way to rebuild the lost freedom of people.

This person fights for his rights and his freedom. Also he suggests to people to demonstrate peacefully and not by throwing bombs and chemical products.

This picture shows a young man throwing a bouquet of flowers. As we can see from his face we can understand that he is in a rage. He is a young man who wants to express his feelings. Maybe he disagrees with the political system of his country and he wants a revolution so that he can win his rights. Instead of demonstrating by throwing bombs or by burning cars and trees he prefers to demonstrate in a peaceful way, by throwing flowers. With this attitude, he shows his rage and his anger, peacefully without any damage. He is wearing a cover around his mouth so that it is like he is throwing a bomb.

Banksy Rules

To reach and obtain what you want, you don’t have to use violence, there’s another option….think about it….

A sign of peace

Peace, anarchy, change, anger.

Love Overcomes War

This picture shows that through war, destruction and death children can still have dreams of freedom and love. It also shows that soldiers fight for the future of children.

All you need is love, love is all you need. Love beats War. Love is on top of everything.

Only love and purity can defeat war. This picture wants to show us that children don’t deserve to live the tragedy of war but they want to live in a peaceful world.

War can be beaten by true friendship with compassion and loyalty.

War, compassion, love, new generation, change, peace loyalty.

This picture shows us that the poor man and generally all the people don’t want to live in a world which contains people who are very rich and people who are very poor but in a world where all will be the same.

To me, this person wants things to change not only promises that never come true. Often the politicians promise things that they never make reality, so people often get angry because they may want things to change. He doesn’t wish to have a better life only for him; he wants a better world for everyone. He just wants to see a change in the world.

Eyes down, lips curled, not breathing in case I smell. They come closer, but without taking a look at me, afraid that I might injure their petty fantasies. I hear their coins promising some water or even bread-but still- I don’t really care. I watch their smiles return again in the thought of having helped another man. But no, no! They’ve got is all wrong! It’s not their sympathy I’m asking for. I’ll call it into question and shout right at their face; I need you to empathise and feel the way I felt. When coins was not what I had asked for, but the only thing that got.

The poor man doesn’t want money; he wants to see a change in the poor world he lives in. He’s fed up with the whole situation and he’s not begging for coins but for hope. He represents us, he shows a message we all want to shout, he says he‘s not poor because of money, but because of the exhausted world we live in.

Forget money, change the world. It shows that people can survive without money and all they could possibly want is for things to change.

Nowadays people only care about food, money and their own satisfaction and they don’t know what to believe in.

Money can’t change the world, neither you. Money ain’t got no soul.

The specific photo refers to capitalism and generally the fact that the new generation nowadays show too much respect to big industries and they sometimes overestimate them. They are not innovative and usually go with the flow and they do not try to be different and inspirational. That’s why they fell into the trap of capitalism and over consumption.

Unfortunately money controls everything. Many crimes are committed every day by people who want to get money. Even the kids have on top of everything money and they pray to have more because they believe money can bring happiness.

I think it’s about capitalism. Children are obliged to show respect to the brands and the companies which shall provide them everything they need. They can’t do without them.

It makes me feel sad because the future of the children depends on the companies.

There is a phrase saying that the dog is man’s best friend. Everyone has heard of it but some of us experience the sense of this phrase everyday. Well, I belong to this group of people as I own a dog that I can’t do without. My pet’s dog name is Duffy and she’s a joyful, lively puppy. Every morning she jumps on my bed and she licks my face until she makes sure that I’ve woken up. Surprisingly, one Saturday morning she didn’t come to wake me up. My first thought was that she might have wanted to have some more sleep. Then, I went to see whether she was still sleeping and I found her lying

It was Monday morning and I knew it was time to get up. When I saw the clock, it was 8.05 a.m.! I only had 10 minutes before the school bell would ring. I got dressed, and I ran fast to the door. I took the bike to arrive sooner. However, while I was riding the bike, the front tyre blew up and I fell onto the road. I really wished to be at school on time, but that was impossible. But I got up, I took the bike and I started to walk quickly to school. Finally, I was late for school and the teacher told me off for not being there on time. In the third hour we

on her pillow shaking. She was staring at me as if she was begging for help. I wrapped her in a blanket as fast as I could and carefully held her in my arms. Suddenly, I realized that I was home alone and the rest of my family was out as every Saturday morning. I panicked at first but a few moments later I got dressed and carried her to the nearest pet hospital which was luckily only 10 minutes away. Everyone was surprised to see a 13 year old girl rushing into the clinic with a puppy in her arms and they all helped me with no delay. Fortunately, the vet found that Duffy had got nothing serious but a common cold. Despite my dog’s non serious illness and quick recovery, that morning I had so many mixed emotions such as surprise, disappointment, sadness, anger, anxiety, frustration because of not knowing what to do and how to deal with urgent situations like that one. I knew that I would feel really awful if I hadn’t managed to help her at all. Justifiably, that was the worst day of my life and I hope that nothing like this will happen again!

had a maths test! That’s bad luck! I wasn’t prepared very well, so I didn’t pass the test, and I only got 66 %. After school, at 4.30 pm, I had basketball training so I went home, I changed, and then I took the bus to the basketball court. But on the way to the court it was raining very hard, and I received a text message on my cell phone from the coach to say that the training was cancelled. That was very bad news, because there wasn’t anyone to give me a lift home, in that rain. So I went home on foot. I became soaked through, and I think I got a cold too. That was the worst day of my life. But as I say, tomorrow, is a new day, isn’t it?

I remember that day very clearly. It was a hot day in Porto Rafti. I was with my parents on vacation. We had just finished swimming at the local beach. So we went home as usual and ate our lunch. Then my friend Pavlos called and suggested we went for a ride on our bikes. So I accepted the invitation. We arranged to meet outside my house at six o’clock! Everything was fine we were having fun but then there was a downhill road and my friend insisted on going down but I did not want to because I am afraid of heights but in the end I stupidly agreed. As we crossed it, a car came out of nowhere and crashed into my bike! I fell down and the driver of the car came out screaming and asking if I was okay and apologizing . Everything was white for a little while and I could not see what was happening around me. Then my friend called my parents and they came and took me to the hospital. I had stitches on my eyebrow and bruises all over my body and after that I went back home. It was the worst day of my life.

It was another boring day at school, although there was a little bit of sunshine during the day because it was the end of the week. Everything was normal, the first lesson started, the hours passed and it was time for my art lesson. We had to make dresses out of recycled

items and I decided to make a dress out of plastic bags and paper. I had to cut a plastic bag so I took a pair of scissors and started cutting it. As I was finishing the cutting, I suddenly felt a weird cold pain in one of the fingers of my left hand! I threw down the scissors and the bag from the shock! I had cut a part of my finger! Without screaming or crying I went to the teacher and when she saw it she panicked. The first aid box at my school was empty and someone had to go to the chemist’s while I was waiting with my finger bleeding continuously. After they helped me with the bleeding I had to go to my piano lesson but I couldn’t play because it was really hurting. So I went home. The most annoying result of that accident was that a long time afterwards whenever I wanted to use scissors everybody would watch me with anxiety!
