    By reason of their special

    vocation it belongs to the

laity to seek the kingdom of

    God by engaging in

    temporal affairs and

    directing them according to

    Gods will.... It pertains to

them in a special way so to

    illuminate and order all

    temporal things with which

    they are closely associated

    that these may always be

    effected and grow

    according to Christ and

may be to the glory of the

    Creator and Redeemer.

    PRAY

Ask the Lord what you main vocation is

and how you should be living out that

calling. Are you seeking to do the will of

    God?

Ask for the intercession of St. Joseph, thepatron of vocations!

    Every one hath his

    roper gift from God; one

    fter this manner, and

    nother after that. . . . As

    he Lord hath distributed

    o every one, as God

    ath called every one, so

    et him walk.t. Paul, 1 Corinthians 7:17

    Thy Will Be Done

Every time we recite the Our Father we pray, Thy will be done,

and consequently declare that we are open and willing to doing

that which is most pleasing to the Lord. When we ask the Lord for

guidance, listen for His response, and then act on His instruction,

    we are doing His will.

As a truly loving and merciful God, our Lord is constantly

inviting us to do what will get us to the everlasting kingdom

heaven. He wants us to be happy, content, and complete, and i

we accept the guidance that he gives us we will certainly

    feel peace.

It should come as no surprise then that this concept would reac

even to our vocation in life.To Each a Calling from God

A vocation is call from God to some state in life. Whe

the Lord gives us a vocation He is providing us with the

calling that will grant us the most joy in life. But most

importantly He is affording us an opportunity to get to

Heaven. St. Alphonsus Liguori said, In the choice of a

state of life, if we wish to secure our eternal salvation,

we must embrace that state to which God calls us....

For some of us our vocation is to marriage and

parenthood; for others its the priesthood or the reli-

gious/consecrated life. Within those overarching voca

tions are career paths; ie doctors, teachers, students,

athletes, musicians, police officers, etc. Many of us are

called to one or a series of career vocations while mai

taining our overarching call. A good example of this

would be the husband and father who lives out his ma

vocation while being a soldier. Over the next few wee

we will unpack the various vocations we are called to

in life. Do you know what your true calling is?
