Thoughts…

2019 was an exciting and productive year because of your most generous support. Your contributions and donations were turned into a record breaking amount of blessings for the approximately 2,200 seniors who are served by Wesley Living. For example:

53of the most “Frail” residents were provided personal support services by the “Personal Support Services Scholarship” program.

$48,754was spent providing social interactions in the form of community events and social activities. These critical expenses stimulate social interactions, combat loneliness and restore hope.

38 seniors formerly homeless seniors were provided sanctuary through the GOLDEN CROSS Homeless Senior Interventions. These seniors now have permanent housing solutions, basic household items, furniture, food and daily use consumables.

$36,427.90was spent on providing basic furniture to make a home for homeless seniors.

Over$28,400was spent for Christmas ensuring all of our seniors had a proper Christmas meal. Each Wesley Living community also received a gift based on the community size for use by all the residents of the community.

You have assisted GOLDEN CROSS Senior Ministries in living out the mission statement of enhancing the quality of life for all seniors served by Wesley Living.

Please remember that 100% of your thoughtful and loving contributions go directly to the support of the seniors we serve.

Partnering with GOLDEN CROSS has never been easier! Please use the included envelope to return a blessing for the seniors served. You can also text the word “senior” to 44321 to make a one time or re-occurring donation.

Your generosity in support of the mission of GOLDEN CROSS Senior Ministries equips our ministry to handle the growing challenges facing an increasing number of seniors in need. Why?

Because no senior should ever have to travel life’s journey alone!

Thoughts…

Seventy six year old Ms. Carol arrived at a Wesley Living community after being removed from an abusive relationship. With only the clothes on her back and a meager few personal belongings, she wondered how she would ever re-start her life. Her hopelessness and dismay were overwhelming, leaving her almost inconsolable. Imagine the gradual restoration of her hope as her Wesley Living community manager described how GOLDEN CROSS was going to step in and turn her shelter into sanctuary.

This couldn’t have happened without the loving generosity shown throughout the Memphis Conference to the GOLDEN CROSS Senior Residents Fund™. 100% of all donations go directly towards restoring peace of mind and improving the quality of life for our senior residents. That generosity is crucial since we receive no apportionments from the Memphis Annual Conference and rely solely on those donations to transform lives one need at a time. Sunday May 7th has been set aside by the Conference as GOLDEN CROSS Sunday.

Your generosity in 2016 allowed amazing things to happen for the seniors served by our ministry. Well over $100,000 was spent in the transformation of these senior’s lives.

Medical assistance $2,868 Furniture $26,960 “Move In” Kits $4,436 Misc. Resident Needs $2,389 Christmas Meals and gifts $29,574 Social Activities and programs $46,190

You touch the lives of over 2,200 senior resident’s living in the 29 Wesley Living communities with your support of this ministry. As Jesus said in Matthew 25:40, “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” NIV

Your generosity towards the mission of Wesley Senior Ministries Foundation equips our ministry to handle the growing challenges facing an increasing number of seniors.

Gifts to the GOLDEN CROSS Senior Ministries Endowment Fund are permanent. Only income growth from investments may ever be used in support of the Operations of the organization. Your gift keeps giving for years to come!

This fall we were issued a “1 for 2 Challenge” grant in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the founding of Wesley Living, our partner organization. Appeals were sent out and the response was overwhelming! With the total gifts received and the Challenge proceeds that were presented, over $150,000was deposited into the Endowment Fund insuring the fulillment of our mission and ministry for many years to come.

It is never too late to make a lasting gift to the Endowment. Every dollar donated helps! Gifts from donor advised funds, distributions from qualiied retirement accounts, stocks and other securities, cash and even real estate are appropriate instruments to donate.

Please consult your tax and estate professionals for the very best way for you to partner with GOLDEN CROSS Senior Ministries and maximize your long term impact.

Here is our tax ID and address for your convenience:

Tax ID# is: 58-1871974

Another interesting way to make a lasting impact is to include GOLDEN CROSS in your estate planning. Frequently, people seek to leave behind a legacy that really makes a difference. This type of legacy giving ensures your generosity lives on and on.

Please let us know how we can assist you and thank you for your support!

Endowment News Operaon’s Notes...

In April 2019, GOLDEN CROSS Senior Ministries held a fundraiser, “CelebratingHope”, which raised over $9,000.00 for senior residents served by Wesley Living. The celebration was held at Christ Memphis, attendees enjoyed musical entertainment from Mrs. Kellye Cash and an inspiring and motivating talk by Mrs. Billie Cash. This event was made possible through the hard work and dedication from the GOLDEN CROSS Key Women and several church groups who assisted throughout the entire process. What a glorious celebration it was. The GOLDEN CROSS Key Women are a vital part of this ministry. They serve as advocates to their local churches for GOLDEN CROSS. Their support is a driving force in our ability to enhance the quality of life for the seniors we serve. At the last Key Women’s meeting of the year in November; Preachers, Lay Leaders, Missions Chairs and friends were invited to hear about the ministry of GOLDEN CROSS. More than 20 Memphis United Methodist Churches were represented. GOLDEN CROSS Senior Ministries extends a heartfelt “THANK YOU” to every donor, every volunteer, every supporter and everyone who believes in our mission and ministry.

“You are not alone.”, resource booklet

Support for Our Seniors

Funding provided by The H.W. Durham Foundation allowed for the development, creation and publication of this supportive resource booklet. It has been provided to the approximately 2,200 seniors GOLDEN CROSS Senior Ministries serves. Many seniors find it difficult reaching out for help leading to many unfortunate and harmful behaviors and decisions. Life’s changes can be especially difficult for seniors. The booklet’s message: “Be strong enough to stand alone, smart enough to know when you need help and brave enough to ask for it.” The booklet concludes with a listing of support websites, programs and phone numbers.
