4th choice can be from any column
These are Year 9 Choices• With two exceptions this has nothing to do with
(I)GCSE choices.• You may wish to choose subjects that you think you
might want to do at (I)GCSE.• You may wish to choose one or more subjects that you
won’t be choosing at (I)GCSE to gain greater exposure to a subject that you will be leaving behind in Y10.
• The key thing is that it is about making the choice that is the right one for you.
• Don’t choose options to be with your friends – even if you have exactly the same options you might not be with them!
• Choose wisely because once you have made your choices it is unlikely you will be able to change them.
Thinking about combinations
• You have to make a CHOICE!
• Finding a balance – Art, Ceramics, DT, Food & Nutrition– Latin, Greek– Drama, Music
• Keep your options open– You cannot do Latin at GCSE if you have not done Latin in
Y9.– You cannot do Greek & Latin at GCSE if you have not taken
Greek & Latin in Y9.– You can do any other GCSE that St Helen’s offers in one of
these optional subjects without having done it in Y9. Please note that Food & Nutrition is not offered as a GCSE subject at St Helen’s.
How do I get advice?
• Read the options booklet.
• Discuss your choices with your parents.
• Ask your subject teachers.
• Talk to your form tutor or Mrs Taylor.
• Use the parents’ meeting to discuss ideas together.
