To provide you with advice and guidance to enable your child to make appropriate choices for

their future

PURPOSE OF THE EVENING

In a very competitive world: Subject choices should be made with careful consideration about gaining the currency required for:

• Post 16 study • Further and Higher Education (College, University) • Training whilst in employment

Choosing an appropriate learning pathway is essential. Do not simply think about the next two years: • What do you want to do after year 11? • Have you chosen the right subjects?

PURPOSE OF THE EVENING

• The Government has a very clear agenda on what should be done to raise standards and the achievement of all students.

• There have been a number of recent changes that have had an impact on either examinations and/or the curriculum offered to students from September 2015.

INTRODUCTION

Hedingham school has to respond to the new agenda by ensuring that every student: – Studies a broad, balanced and appropriate

curriculum

– Gains the currency to contend with an increasingly competitive world

– Is at the centre of everything we do

English Baccalaureate (Ebacc)

SUMMARY

The Government has promoted the idea of an Ebacc where students are recognised if they gain A*-C passes in: • English • Maths • Two Sciences • Geography or History • A foreign language. This is a programme which should be considered carefully, and may be appropriate for many students, but is not suitable for everyone.

Choosing an appropriate learning pathway is essential. Do not simply think about the next two years: • Consider:

– Post 16 study – Further and Higher Education (College, University) – Training whilst in employment

• How is the course assessed? Does it match the

strengths of your son or daughter?

• Is the Ebacc appropriate for your son or daughter?

Consider carefully

Do:

• Talk to people

• Be interested in the subjects you choose

• Enjoy the subjects you choose

• Find out what is needed for the future

Don’t

• Make snap decisions

• Choose what friends are taking

• Be swayed by liking or disliking teachers

• 5th February: Parents Evening

• 9th-27th February: Support in Tutorial sessions

• 2nd-6th March: Support sessions in Learning Centre with Senior Staff

• 4th march: Additional Parents Evening (By prior appointment)
