• 3 assessment weeks for Year 9oMonday 26th – Friday 30th November

Extended Learning Hours

- After school from 3.15pm – 4.30 pm

- Attendance if been asked to fill gaps in knowledge

- To be treated as period 6

• Pupils are grouped according to ability and knowledge from previous year – both the end of year assessment and mid-year

assessment weeks are used to help determine this

• Set movements can take place following each assessment period





• Repeat of previous year’s work to ensure depth of understanding

• Focus on fluency (understanding methods) to support mathematical thinking (problem solving skills)

5 year plan

• Maintenance of material to stretch and challenge.

• Introduction of skills necessary to access the demand of the new GCSEs.

• Early introduction of GCSEs (units covered are fundamental and are needed for either route taken at GCSE)





Assessment2 assessment weeks and an end of year test:

Week 1 (comm 26th November):• Synoptic elements from year 7/8• A choice of question from one of the units covered in term 1.

Week 2 (comm 4th March):• Synoptic elements from year 7/8 and terms 1 and 2• A choice of question of units covered in terms 3.

End of year test (Comm 26th June): • Test covering elements from year 10 GCSE content.

(please note teachers will also perform small, informal assessments to gauge progress and identify gaps in knowledge throughout the year)





2 Different routes:

• Combined sciences (triology):

Students will study all three disciplines across the two years. This will culminate in 6 exams (2 in each discipline) and students can end year 11 with 2 science GCSEs.

• Separate Sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics):

Students will have separate lessons and teachers for each discipline covering slightly more material in more depth than those in combined. This will culminate in 6 exams (2 in each discipline) and students can end year 11 with 3 GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.





Common Myths

• Ability to study A level.

• Medicine don’t like combined.

• Cannot achieve a 4 or above in combined.
