We understand the importance of sharing information. Parents are encouraged to communicate with their class teacher via arranged meetings or letters which can be placed in children's reading records books.
Staff check these regularly but not always during the teaching day.
Urgent communication should be addressed by phone call to the School Office.
Parents are welcome to arrange additional meetings for any concerns or to share information with us.
Likewise if we have any concerns we will contact you and invite you in for a discussion.
Communication
In addition to these informal communications we have a number of more formal meetings throughout the year.
In the Autumn term a meet and greet information meeting will be held where you can learn all you need about the year ahead.
In the Spring Term there are pre-arranged 1:1 meeting to discuss your child progress.
At the end of the Summer term, you will receive an End of Year written report.
Reporting to Parents
We follow the curriculum from the Westminster Diocese. Topics that are covered are: Advent, Lent, Pentecost. Other topics are covered dependent on the Year of the Church we are in Year A, 2019-202. We have been recently learning about the Creation Story Children are encouraged to relate scripture to their everyday lives and explain what they wonder about.

Trips
Hatfield House in the Summer term to link with our Tudors topic Jubilee Park will link in with our science topics of animals. Other trips and events are still being discussed and planned; you will be let known of such events as they are happening. Lea Valley Sports Centre for Sports Day. We will require parent helpers for these trips, so if you free and able to help us out on these days it will be much appreciated.
Homework
At St . Edmunds we believe homework should be manageable for parents, pupils and teachers. Tasks set will be directly related to children’s class work and the school curriculum and clearly understood by all pupils in terms of objectives and feedback.
Homework expectations in Year 4 are:
Homework – on a range of subjects (30 minutes)
Maths – MyMaths related tasks
Reading – 20 minutes daily (Reading Record
Signed after book has been heard)
Spelling – weekly spelling test (Fridays)
Pupils are assessed throughout the year, in a mixture of formal test papers and on-going teacher assessment.
Teachers will assess children’s learning in reading, writing, and maths.
Science and RE are assessed at the end of every unit.
Teachers record the results of these assessments and monitor each child’s progress.
Teachers will share targets with pupils and parents so that they are aware of what to focus on.
More detailed information about children’s attainment and progress is shared through school reports and parents evening.
Assessment
There is a wide range of extra curricular activities for pupils at St.Edmunds.
Mrs. Johnston normally allocates places at After-School clubs.
