The use of the mid shot demonstrates her sense of confusion and panic which would conform to typical stereotypes of women. However, the man is taking a selfie, in which this behaviour is more typical of females which makes him seem more feminine, and the pull focus here makes it seem like a natural thing that is not significant, which further makes the video seem more fictional, and this subverts typical stereotypes of men.

The fact that she is using a feminine object for a masculine activity strengthens the identity of the female which promotes a sense of feminism. As such, this subverts and conforms to typical stereotypes of females. Richard Dyer stated that the ‘star’ is a construct and so can be moulded into many different personalities, and this is evident here as she is shown to have quite a masculine persona, but the mise-en-scene is representative of a female

This shot shows that the male gaze is a prominent theme throughout the Music Video. The fact that she is naked also plays into this as no nudity is visible but it is left for the viewer to assume. C Wright Mills suggested that the Media perform four key functions for audiences, one of which is aspiration, in which this is demonstrated as the female audience will want to become as beautiful as Katy Perry.

The low angle shot used here makes her seem superior and again strengthens the identity of the female. This subverts to typical stereotypes of women as men are seen to be more superior and dominant than women. However, the clothes she is wearing almost makes her seem Amazonian, in which in these cultures females tend to exhibit more masculine traits than females, yet she still looks feminine. This conveys to the audience that she is powerful in her character and as such furthers female aspirations towards her and this attracts them to the ‘star’ Katy Perry.

Again, her sense of identity as a female is further enhanced as the mid shot here conveys a sense of authority or superiority to males, as she is sitting on a throne. The throne is made out of leaves and rock which would make it seem like she is mother nature, again showing her power, which subverts typical stereotypes of women.

Richard Dyer states that a star is an image not a real person as star is constructed out of a range of materials. This is demonstrated in the mid shot as part of her star persona is her alter ego kitty purry, in which the tiger is wearing a necklace saying this. Also the fact that the tiger is wearing this necklace makes Katy Perry herself appear to be a tiger herself as this part of her star persona which inspires the audience, and this inspiration attracts the audience to other products created by Katy Perry.
