Student Advice
• Consider options carefully as you take exams by yourself not with friends
• Pick subjects wisely! Take things you enjoy as you will be taking them every day. Use free periods properly
• Research your options before choosing them
• Think about your options carefully, buy nice stationery it makes you want to work more
• It not your GCSEs
Student Advice
• Don’t come if you are not prepared for hard work• Don’t wait to start revising and try all year round, your
teachers impression of you counts more at A Level than GCSE
• A Levels are a massive jump from GCSEs so make sure you are going to work hard and enjoy the subjects you choose
• Just because you are smart does not mean you will not fail• If you are naturally good at subjects during GCSE and don’t
have to revise to do well, I PROMISE natural aptitude is not enough at A level. Work hard and REVISE.
Student Advice
• Start revising from day 1, get organised, just because you did well at GCSE grades don’t have a chilled back mentality
• Use frees effectively or don’t come to sixth form
• Use a study room or library – don’t go to the shop
• Never give up on your dreams……. Use frees effectively
• Behave like a young adult and be mature, use time effectively
Student Advice
• Do work regularly from the start of the year and use your frees. If your friends distract you try studying in a quiet area and save socialising for break, lunch and afterschool
• Start revising earlier because the courses are more intense than you think but try and go to the ICT room or the quiet study room every now and then to keep up with work……you won’t regret it
• Start revising from the start of Sixth Form, it will be worth it in the long run
• Talk to teachers• Make relationships with your teachers – it makes life a lot
easier and A levels less daunting
Student Advice
• There is more work load than you would ever imagine. You will cry a lot. Make bonds with your teachers
• INDEPENDENCE – you have to work on your own two feet – teachers won’t do everything for you anymore
• Get a folder for each subject and have a section in it for each topic
Student Advice
Do all your notes for year 12 in year 12! If you want to change subjects you can in the first few weeks. Sixth Form is great for academic experiences but make sure you do other stuff in and out of school with your friends to enrich you properly
Make sure you keep all of your notes organised, stay focused throughout, always recap don’t let something slip out of your mind it’s always harder to go back on, take every opportunity given as well because there are lots.
Student Advice
Don’t be so caught up in what people think. Sooner or later you will realise it literally doesn’t matter. Up to you whether you see that now or wait until after school to grow up.
Use all of your frees, don’t sit on your phone in your frees or talk, keep track of your grades and your revision, it will be easier near exams. Use a variety of revision materials, get a study buddy to revise with, use your time, you only have one shot at the final exams
Prepare yourself to work hard. Start early to minimise stress. Keep a clear head and have a strong attitude to learning, it is what helps you focus
