We are proud of their achievements and more importantly, of them as individuals and the contribution each has brought to the School. One can only wonder what the Class of 2020 will be saying in 12 months' time. What memories will they share and what legacy will they leave? Today, our 2020 Prefects were announced to the School. We congratulate not only the young men who have been elected but all those who applied. When you observe the young men that missed out, it is clear that we do have a very strong cohort. Congratulations to our newly appointed School Captain, Nick Reynolds and Vice Captains, James Constable and Luke Schofield. We are very much looking forward to their leadership and guidance of the Class of 2020. To those who missed out, you don’t have to be elected as a leader to lead. Year 12, 2020 will lead the School as a group of young men, united under the Black and Blue, and strive together to further instil the Knox values of Faith, Integrity, Wisdom, Compassion and Courage into the young men at Knox. The boys are encouraged to take hold of every opportunity before their time at this wonderful school comes to an end. A highlight of the week was the CAS Track and Field. Thank you to the boarders and other Year 11 boys who went to SOPAC to support their school and peers. The weather was beautiful and Knox outperformed everyone’s expectations. To go one place better next year is certainly within our reach. We wish our Robotics Team of James Wainwright, Wilson Gu, Max Gin, Sebastian Goh and Ashton He the very best on Saturday as they compete against Barker. With one week of Year 11 to go, the boys are expected to maintain the high standards of behaviour, uniform and academic work. After a huge term, we are all feeling the need for a good two weeks of rest. We hope you enjoy a more relaxed, post-exam weekend with your boys. YEAR 11 NEWS

It is nice to have the boys back from exams and to see them settling back in as they prepare to commence their Year 12 journey. The boys were outstanding during their examinations and we commend them on the way they handled what is a trying time. To finish their Preliminary studies strongly, and to lay a solid foundation for the start of Year 12, it is important they work right through to the last day of term.

A few important notes as we prepare for the start of the HSC course work:

• Attendance and punctuality at every class must be without fault right through to the last day of term (Friday 27 September). The boys will be receiving their exams back and the feedback will inform the work that needs to be done over the break (feed forward). Gaps in knowledge and skills that the exams exposed must be addressed prior to next term as Year 11 work becomes assumed knowledge in Year 12. In a recent communication from NESA, the following statement is highlighted: ‘Year 11 course work is assumed knowledge for the Year 12 course. This means that Year 11 course content forms part of the knowledge required for students to demonstrate a deep understanding of Year 12 content’.

• Any boy who wants to amend their pattern of study to pick up an extension subject is to complete a change of subject form, have it signed by the relevant staff, obtain a parent signature and then return to Mrs Cherry by Thursday 26 September.

• On Monday 21 October (Term 4 Week 2) all boys and parents are encouraged to attend an HSC information session starting at 6.30pm in Seniors’ Hall. Please save the date for this important evening.

• NESA rules enable students to drop to 10 units in Year 12. There is no rush to drop a subject. We are insisting that students wait until after they have a Knox Academic Indicator (KAI) interview in Week 2 next term. Details of the KAI interviews will be provided at the start of next term and the information session on 21 October. Please note that KAI information will not be available prior to the interviews. Mr Nelson puts the KAI information together and it takes many weeks of data manipulation. We appreciate that families would like to purchase text books. Our recommendation is to hold off buying texts for subjects that may be dropped. The teachers will be understanding and will make allowances until students finalise their pattern of study.

• The first Year 12 assessment period commences Week 5 next term. Some subjects will have assessments in the final week of Term 4 so early leave prior to the Summer Vacation is to be avoided. An assessment schedule for Term 4 will be distributed in the first week back next term.

• Teachers are working on Preliminary reports and they will be available through Student Café and Parent Lounge on Friday 27 September at approximately 3.30pm. Reports will be refreshed at the end of the year to capture information not known by the end of this term such as Presentation Day awards.
