Year 11 Media Unit 1 Outcome 2 – Technologies of Representation On completion of this unit the student should be able to produce and compare media representations in two or more media texts and compare the representations by the application of media technologies. Task: To “recut” a film from one genre to represent it as being from a completely different genre by producing: a “recut” trailer of no longer than 90 seconds You need to choose a film of one genre and a second, contrasting genre of which your film will end up. For example, turn a romantic comedy into a horror. Choose a film that you are very familiar with (a favourite), so that you know what scenes would be best to use. You should either own your film or be able to hire it on DVD Your trailer will be edited using Final Cut Pro Here are some samples to give you an idea: http://tinyurl.com/trailerdumb http://tinyurl.com/trailermartian http://tinyurl.com/trailerdoubtfire Your productions will be planned and discussed in your PDP/folio which MUST include: Approx. Length ü Audience Characteristics of the audience that your recut movie will be targeted towards. Consider their age, gender, social status, etc. Why is this audience appropriate for your film? ½ pg Intention What impact do you want the products to have on your audience? How do you want it to make them feel? Why will the audience want to see your film after watching the trailer and seeing the poster? How will you gain your audience’s engagement with each product? How will you maintain their attention once you have gained it? ½ pg Genre What is the genre of your recut movie? List and describe FIVE codes and FIVE conventions specific to your chosen genre. How will your audience engage with this genre? ½-1 pg
