GCSE CONTROLLED ASSESSMENT This booklet is designed to provide students and parents with all the information they require about GCSE Controlled Assessment in Year 11. Controlled Assessment is a fundamental part of most GCSE subjects and it is crucial that students are organised to make sure that they meet all set deadlines. This booklet is designed to help students plan their time during Year 11. Controlled Assessment counts towards the final GCSE mark so it is very important that each student gains as many marks as they can before they go into the final exam. Some subjects have retained coursework which is completed both at school and at home. It also is generally able to be redrafted. Other subjects will be completing Controlled Assessment which will take place in school under controlled conditions and then the work will be handed in to be either assessed internally or externally. For the successful management and completion of all Controlled Assessment it is imperative that students meet the deadlines set. This booklet is split into two sections: Part One — Controlled Assessment Requirements This section sets out details specific to each subject including whether there is Controlled Assessment and how much it is worth. It is important to note that the weighting of the Controlled Assessment components is not the same in each subject. We have also included information about any examined units that students will take in Year 11. Part Two — Year 11 Timetable This section provides a timetable of deadlines. It indicates final submission dates for each subject. This ensures that all students understand clearly when specific pieces of work have to be completed during Year 11. It also outlines the dates that Controlled Assessment will be taking place throughout Year 11. At the end of the booklet is an overview of which subjects will be doing Controlled Assessments in which months. Students will be undertaking actual GCSE examinations in May 2020 (at the end of Year 11) in the following subjects: Business Studies, Digital Technology, English Language, English Literature, Geography, History, Home Economics (Child Development), Mathematics, Religious Studies, Science (Double Award – Biology, Chemistry and Physics) and Technology and Design
