Castles Year 1 - Term 5 During our topic of Castles we are: Science Thinking about the materials castles were made from. Investigating the most suitable materials for a building castle. Looking at the types of materials which were around in the past and how they are different from now. Art/Design and Technology Drawing a self portrait and looking at portraits of kings and queens. Making a drawbridge. Making a personal coat of arms. English Reading and acting out traditional tales and fairy tales. Writing own versions of traditional tales. Writing information about castles. Using smaller coins to add and give change. Collect money in money box and go to shop to

spend. Practise writing numbers, making sure they

are the right way round. Playing board games, dominoes and card

games to reinforce number work.

History/Geography Visit a castle to see what life would

have been like e.g. Leeds Castle, Hever Castle.

Find out information from books or internet about what life was like in

castle times.
