Announcements
Additional weekly activitiesAnnouncementsThis week we will begin using Seesaw Blogs. Seesaw Blogs is an
online platform for students to showcase the amazing work
they are doing to a wider audience. It also allows students to
connect and interact with their classmates through discussions
with their teacher and peers, creating an ongoing and genuine
experience.
Teachers will publish exemplary work that students have been
uploading throughout the week, and provide an opportunity for
students to provide feedback and/or comments. This gives
students an authentic audience for their posts, encouraging
quality work and creativity. In addition, teachers may ask a
question to prompt discussion and collaboration. All posts must
be approved by the teacher and in this secure and monitored
space students will learn how to be responsible members of an
online community.
Home learning packsPlease do not complete any worksheets until they have been assigned.

Throwing and catching
Throw and catch – 1 player
Throw and catch on the spot. This is good for improving hand-eye coordination. Begin by catching with 2 hands and then move to one hand. You can make this more difficult by adjusting the height of the throw or switching to your non-dominant hand.
Throw and catch – 2 players
This activity can be done with a brother/sister or parent. Practice throwing and catching a ball to each other using your dominant and non-dominant hand. You can increase difficulty by adding a ‘trick’ between each throw such as a clap, two claps, a spin etc.
Wall ball – 1 or 2 players
For this activity you will need a wall or fence. Start by throwing the ball against the wall and catching it as it rebounds. See how many times you can throw and catch the ball without dropping it!

Whole Number
Using a bunch of paddlepop sticks estimate and count how many there are to the nearest 10. On a piece of paper put the headings estimate and count. Fill in each column.
Have someone write 10 two-digit numbers for you. Write the number that comes before and after each of these numbers. Challenge: What is the number 10 before and 10 after? Can you choose three-digit numbers and write the number before and after these?
Time

Lesson Topic Week 2- Investigating moving toys
Learning Intention
I can investigate how toys move in different ways
Success Criteria
I will know I am successful if I can:- Make toys move by giving them energy- Think about and answer questions about how my toy moves- Investigate movement using a ball
![Page 49: Year 1 › content › dam › ... · Body Percussion Body Percussion: Using the rhyme below create your own actions using your body to make different sounds and music. Clap Your](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022063000/5f0dfe607e708231d43d1813/html5/thumbnails/49.jpg)
Week 2 Task
WHAT TO DO - Task 1- Choose a toy that can move, eg. Toy car, ball, spinning top, doll with moving parts
etc… - While playing with the toy, investigate and ask these questions:
- How does it move? (i.e. it rolls)- What parts move? (i.e. wheels) - What action makes it move? (i.e. push)
Different toys will move in different ways, have different parts that move and will require different actions to make them move. Have fun investigating how your toys move.
WHAT TO DO - Task 2
How many different ways can you make a ball move? - Investigate different actions you need to make a ball move in different ways.
i.e. Roll (push away), bounce (push down), throw (push up), spin (turn it around).

WHAT’S HAPPENING to my Toy
Toys need an action to make them move. You may need to push it or spin the toy to make it move. When you push or spin a toy you are giving energy to the toy to make it move.
Some moving toys use batteries and electricity to make them move. These types of toys still need an action – you usually have to turn them on with a switch to create an electrical circuit before they can move.

Using Push and Pull to move your body
DID YOU KNOW
People can move too – How can you move?
We can move our arms, legs and head. We can also move our whole body.
• Can you walk, crawl, run, jump, skip, spin and turn around? Which part of your body moves when you do these different actions?
• When people walk, run or jump we push off the ground with our legs and feet. Try jumping and feel how you push off the ground.
