Year 5 Suggested Learning From Home Activities and Timetable
The following timetable provides a suggested outline of daily activities for Week 1 . Click on the Zoom links next to your class or teacher’s name to join the correct Zoom meeting. If you are using a home learning booklet at home, the Zoom links can be found on the School Website or can be accessed via Google Classroom .

Google Classroom Suggested activities will be posted each day to the 5LR and 5SW Google Classrooms, which are also collated within this home learning pack . It is important to note that each activity can be completed online or offline at home using paper/notebook and pencils.
Your Week 1 Outline Morning Session (9.00am to 11.00am) – Reading and Writing. Additional Literacy activities are available including Typing Club, EPIC, Bug Club and Literacy Planet . Middle Session (11.30am to 1.00pm) – Mathematics Mathletics is available online for additional activities and games. Afternoon Session (2.00pm to 3.00pm) – Other Key Learning Area Activities.

Today, we are going to read for enjoyment.
Choose a book to read or listen to for 30 minutes on Epic books , Bug club or a book you have at home.
Once you have enjoyed your story, enjoy spending some time completing the activities available on Literacy Planet .
Extension: Choose two characters from your story and create a diamante poem about them.
Writing -
Statement of Phenomena
This introduces the reader to what is to be explained. It may be a definition and include background information about the topic.
Your task is to write a Statement of Phenom- enon on the topic: Aquariums.

Recommendations !
Choose a book from BugClub or home, it could be your favourite book, a book you haven’t read yet or a book you have not yet finished. Read your book for 30 minutes.
Write a recommendation for your book. Remember to include the title, author, a summary, why you are recommending and give it a rating out of 5 stars.

Writing -
Explanation Texts are written to provide an account of why and how things occur.
Task One: Brainstorm topics that could be an informative explanation text.
Task Two: Write a paragraph on one of the topics you brainstormed
Don’t get it mixed up with persuasive texts! We do not use persuasive language. We use formal, informative language such as: -Present tense -Complex and com- pound conjunctions -Descriptive language
Reading -
Today, you will be introduced to your class’s novel. To complete this activity, you will need to sign onto Zoom and see what book your teacher will be sharing.
Today’s focus: Prediction
Look at the novel your teacher has chosen for your class. Think about what the cover is representing, the title and the characters represented on the front cover.

Think about the novel you have been reading with your class.
Consider what you have listened to so far and select a task from the table to complete.
Choose a different task to complete each week.
REMEMBER to sign onto zoom for your reading session to find out what happens next in your class novel.
