Ramadan Activities for Children by: Safiyyah Kent, School Vice
Principal
Ramadan Mubarak to you and your family.
Ramadan is a special time of year in the Muslim world. Parents often wonder what they can do to
make Ramadan more special and meaningful for their children. Here are some fun ways to get your
children really excited about and involved in Ramadan! If you and your children complete some of
these fun activities, feel free to send us pictures to share on social media at:
-
1 - Paper Chains: use craft paper, scissors and glue to cut strips and glue them into a chain that can be hung across the room.
-
2 - Ramadan Story Time
Take time each day to read your child some Ramadan stories. You may already have some favorite Ramadan story books. If not, you can find Ramadan story “read aloud” books on YouTube. Here are some samples: My First Ramadan1 and Ramadan Moon2
and Lailah’s Lunch3
Better yet, let your child write and illustrate their own Ramadan story! Send us a picture of your child!

Kids love to get involved in the kitchen. Get them busy with helping you prepare some simple dishes. Here is a website with simple date desert recipes that your children can help with: Sunnah Date Recipes 4
We hope that this Ramadan will be a blessed time for you and your family. We pray that Allah accepts your fasting, your

A message from: Nasheeda Rahiyan, Mother of Abdullah Ahmed Haris,
KG1E
The introduction of learning online is an opportunity for advanced learning. Initially, it was quite
challenging since we had to balance work and assisting our child with his materials. The
responsibilities of tutoring the child has increased. However, it got easier with experience and we
began to love teaching him, making craft and projects. Teachers have found more creative activities to
adapt to distance learning which the children find fun to do. As a parent, our role is important in our
children’s success. Especially with the current situation, it is important we create a comfortable
environment for the young ones. Staying involved and showing interest in their learning will create an
upbeat atmosphere for the child. Moreover, going through the assignment and materials with the
children beforehand helps the parent and children provides constructive reinforcement to the effort put in learning.

ASSALAMOALAIKUM WRWB!
Your days might feel repetitive, but that’s how routines get set. And it’s okay if your child’s interests
seem repetitive, too If you are working from home, you might feel pressure to give your all to work,
your significant other, and your child.
We know you’re stretched thin and doing your best to manage a whole host of issues, so please don ’t
feel guilty if your kids are engaging in more screen time than you’d typically allow, There are so many
wonderful educational resources out there, even for very young children, Most people are
experiencing a completely new situation right now, and it may take some time to get used to. In one fell swoop, you’ve become a stay-at-home parent, a teacher, and a frontline responder,
Be patient with this transition. It may be rocky at first, but children are adaptable and will thrive with
well-intentioned efforts. Screens can take us to the zoo, guide us through the great museums of the
world, and keep us fit with healthy movement games There are developmental differences between
all children of different ages, meaning there will be differences between homeschooling a kindergartener and homeschooling a seventh grader.
Younger children will need more guidance and help with technology, while older and more
independent kids can set goals and check in with you on their progress. Part of growing up is figuring
out how to wisely spend their time.handover this responsibility to them for at least a few days this
RAMADAN and watch what they do ,you may be pleasantly surprised.Be positive, Stay home stay blessed and safe.
ART AS A THERAPY, By: Eman Amin, Art Teacher
A parent asked me whether the art class was mandatory to join or graded.
Well, I believe somethings in life are not about being mandatory or optional, graded or not…
-
This class is about child’s wellbeing! Think about it as a therapy during this pandemic, where students
are either overwhelmed with assignments of core subjects, feeling isolated due to lack of socializing, or
full with anxiety for being indoor all day long.
Art is a therapy, a way of creative self-expression that helps you cope with your feelings and inner
thoughts! Not only for kids but for adults as well. I would like to introduce some work that adults can use it as well as a de-stress projects. Please find the below link for some Mandela designs.

How to Support Your Child’s Learning at Home,By Riaan Nasab, KG
Director
Parents often ask how they can support their child’s learning at home. It’s an important question…
A child’s learning journey is fascinating. It’s a journey full of wonder and excitement as they explore
everything from stories to the marvels of nature. Accompanying them on this journey, parents are often
their first and most important teacher. They play a significant role in determining how well they do, in
school and beyond.
Encourage your child to be an active learner. You can do this by asking and answering questions. Also
encourage active learning when your child is playing or singing, or even when reading.
Seek the the Best out of Digital Media
Using digital media can be a very effective way of helping your child to learn. To get the best out of it however, it needs to be well managed by parents in terms of time spent and the content used.
Find out What’s Available
-
Through talking to other parents and reading the information that is sent home, find out what the school offers outside of the classroom. What extra curricular activities are there
By knowing everything the school has to offer, your child is in a position to get the best out of it. The
activities are likely to have a positive impact both socially and academically.
4 - Reading at home
Reading at home should be fun and easy – something you both look forward to - a time for laughter and talk.
• Share the reading, take turns or see whether your child wants to read or be read to today
• All children like to be read to, so keep reading to them. You can read in your first language
• Play card and board games together.
· Talk a lot to your child while you are doing things together. Use the language that works best for you and your child.
• Make it a special time together
• quiet and relaxing
• a time to sit close to your child
• 10–15 minutes without interruption, away from the TV
• an enjoyable, interesting and special time
• a time to praise your child for making an effort
5 - Writing at home
• Make writing fun
-
• Help your child write an alphabet letter, then go letter hunting in your house or in a book to find that letter
• Let your child see you writing – you can use your first language
• Encourage them to write shopping lists or make birthday cards
• Water and a paintbrush on a dry path and a stick on sand are fun ways to write letters and words.
• Here's a tip - Don’t worry if your child’s letters or words are sometimes backwards or misspelt at this age. The
important thing is that they have fun writing at home and are making an effort.
Give them reasons to write
• Write to each other. Write notes to your child and leave them in interesting places,
• Ask them to write a reply
• Work with them to put labels on special things – like the door to their room or their toy box.
6 - Mathematics at home
• Talk together and have fun with numbers and patterns
• Help your child to:
• find numbers around your home – clocks, letterboxes.
• count forwards and backwards (clocks, fingers and toes, letterboxes, action rhymes, signs)
• make patterns when counting "clap 1, stamp 2, clap 3, stamp 4, clap 5…"
• do sums using objects such as stones or marbles eg 2 + 3, 4 +1, 5 + 4
• make up number stories – "you have 2 brothers and 2 sisters. There are 4 of them"
• Involve your child in:
• preparing and sharing out food – "two for me and two for you". Ask, "How many for each of us?"
• talking about time – "lunchtime", "story time", "bedtime"
• using words in everyday play like "under", "over", "between", "around", "behind", "up", "down", "heavy", "light" ,
"round", "circle", "yesterday", "tomorrow". You can get library books with these words and ideas in them too
-
• asking questions like "How many apples do we need for lunches? What do you think the weather is going to be like today/tomorrow? What are we going to do next?"

ASCS Layyah students are celebrating World Earth Day.
ASCS School, celebrated Earth Day on April 22, 2017 with much enthusiasm. The aim was to sensitize
the students towards their role in addressing global environmental challenges at grass root level.
The tiny tots collectively participated in doing the beautiful craft work based on Earth Day. Role plays
on how Earth can be saved from global warming were enacted. To mark this day and to emphasize
upon the need to save trees, all the Nursery children were involved in speaking slogans like ‘Save Earth’ and ‘Go Green’.
