Y4 & 5 Trip to Big Bang Fair in London
Years 4 and 5 enjoyed a trip to the Big Bang Fair last week. The Big Bang Fair is an exciting and
interactive celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths for young people in the UK and
aims at bringing classroom learning to life. It is a combination of exciting theatre shows, interactive
workshops and exhibits and careers information from STEM professionals.
Year 4 took part in the space exploration workshop and they also had a lot of fun at the STIXX
exhibition. They were fascinated by the use of newspapers to build a structure and enjoyed the
opportunity to sit on a giant chair made from newspaper. We are hoping that the girls have been
sufficiently inspired to use their creativity and innovative skills to construct using some clever Science
and Engineering, out of newspaper!
Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed two Science workshops at the Big Bang Fair. One workshop looked into the
future at possible inventions that Science could help create and included the demonstration of an
invisibility cloak! The other workshop was a fascinating insight into Space exploration and we
learned that we all have a small amount of stardust in us. Packed full of information and fun
demonstrations, the workshops were great fun and an enriching experience for the girls.
In addition, four Year 5 girls who qualified
for the PA Consulting’s Raspberry Pi
Competition finals took part in the Big Bang
Fair Competition and were highly
commended by the judges for their project.
They also won a runner-up prize sponsored
by Just Eat UK for their fantastic innovation.
Well done girls!
