Y11 Options Assembly
Monday 2nd November
Crucial Time in Your Life
• Well settled in GCSE Courses• Know what you are enjoying• Know what you will succeed in
Think About Post-16
• You will have to stay on in some form of Education until you are 18
• However, you can do a job with day release at a college
• You have 4 basic options
Your Options
1. Do A-Levels at Ermysted’s2. Do A-Levels (or other qualifications) at
another centre such as Craven College or South Craven.
3. Commence an Apprenticeship (see Miss Lang for more details).
4. Commence work, with some form of educational element (see Mrs. Mousdale for more details).
90 % of Students Stay on at EGS
Not good reasons• Because your Friends are doing so• Because you can’t be bothered to do anything
else• YOU MUST MAKE AN INFORMED CHOICE,
ABOUT SEPTEMBER 2016 AND BEYOND!
Wrong Choices
• Every year somebody makes a wrong choice and has to rethink their plans.
• This often wastes a year of their lives (having to restart Y12, here or elsewhere).
• Usually they say “I wish I’d given it more thought”• Historically with 4 AS subjects many students
dropped or swapped an option• Even more important with only 3 choices,
dropping will not be an alternative!
Returning to EGS in the 6th Form
• You need 6 A*-C grades &• At least B grades in your chosen A-Levels.• Some subjects insist on an A, most will
strongly recommend it.
Y12 moving into Y13 (historical)• The vast majority of Y12 students at EGS start doing four AS
courses.• Many drop to 3 at the end of Y12 to concentrate on three good
A2 qualifications.• (There is an expectation of a minimum of 3Ds at AS to return to
Y13)• Usually over 90% of Y13s then go on to study at University.• Y12 Students will be assessed externally in summer 2016 by
sitting AS Examinations.• In 2017 it will then be necessary for you to do full A-Level
Examinations at the end of Y13.• This will be kept under review for future cohorts.
Y12 moving into Y13 (from Sept 2016)
• The vast majority of Y12 students at EGS start doing three full A-Level courses.
• No chance to drop one! Y12 Students will be assessed internally in summer 2017 by sitting End of Year Examinations.
• In September 2017 it will then be necessary for you to do carry on with 3 full A-Levels to the end of Y13.
• Usually over 90% of Y13s then go on to study at University.
