XVI SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME JULY 18TH, 2021

Descansar en Jesús Los Doce regresan de la misión y se reúnen de nuevo con Jesús. Llegan cansados, pero muy contentos. Le cuentan todo lo que habían hecho y enseñado: como fueron de pueblo en pueblo anunciando la buena nueva del Reino, como consolaron y curaron a los enfermos, como expulsaron demonios en su nombre. . . La alegría es inmensa. Todo parece indicar que la misión fue un éxito. Sen tantos lo s que ahora acuden a ellos, que ya no tienen ni tiempo para comer. Por eso Jesús les dice: “Vengan conmigo a un lugar solitario para que descansen un poco.” El reposo de los apóstoles, mas que ambientando en un escenario geográfico concreto, es situado junto a una persona. Junto a Jesús es donde recuperan las fuerzas y se reaniman. En este caso, sin embargo, el intento de estar a solas con Jesús fracasa. La gente busca a Jesús, inquiere, se informa y consigue enterarse a donde ha ido. Se pasan la voz, hombres y mujeres corren por tierra para esperar a Jesús cuando desembarque. Era una numerosa multitud hambrienta y necesitada. A pesar de verse obstaculizado en su búsqueda de soledad y descanso, Jesús no pierde los nervios ni se frustra. No hay en sus ojos una mirada de enojo o reproche. . Al contrario, descubrimos una mirada de ternura y comparación: “se compadeció de ellos, porque andaban como ovejas sin pastor.” Se había retirado con sus discípulos por un acto de amor, y por eso puede pasar, con libertad, de dicha búsqueda al encuentro con la gente. El reposo consistirá ahora en haber reposar a otros, escucharlos en sus problemas, atenderlos, darles de comer. El evangelio de este domingo nos invita a descubrir y encontrar a Jesús tanto en el descanso, en el silencio, en la oración, como en el trabajo, ahí donde la gente busca y espera algo de nosotros.

Rest will now consist of having others rest, listening to their problems, attending to them, feeding them. This Sunday's Gospel invites us to discover and meet Jesus both in rest, in silence, in prayer, and at work, where people seek and expect something from us.

En el año 1935 llegó el Padre Salesiano Juan del Rizzo al barrio "20 de julio", al sur de Bogotá, una región muy solitaria y abandonada en aquellos tiempos. Le habían prohibido emplear la Imagen del Niño de Praga porque una asociación muy antigua reclamaba para ella el derecho exclusivo de propagar esa imagen. El Padre del Rizzo estaba convencido de que a Dios le agrada mucho que honremos la infancia de Jesús, pues así lo ha demostrado con innumerables y numerosos milagros. ¿Si otros niños son tan inocentes y tan dignos de ser amados, cuánto más lo será el niño Jesús? Además recordaba muy bien la promesa hecha por Nuestro Señor a una santa: " Todo lo que quieres pedir pídelo por los méritos de mi infancia y nada te será negado si te conviene conseguirlo". Así que no desistió de propagar la devoción al Divino Niño pero dispuso adquirir una nueva imagen. Se fue a un almacén de arte religioso llamado "Vaticano" propiedad de un artista italiano, y le encargó una imagen bien hermosa del Divino Niño. Le prestaron una imagen bellísima, el padre la llevó para sus solitarios, desérticos y abandonados campos del "20 de julio". Ahora empezaría una nueva era de milagros en esta región. Esta es un de las imágenes más hermosas y agradables que han hecho de nuestro Señor. Con los brazos abiertos como queriendo recibir a todos. Con una sonrisa imborrable de eterna amistad. Atrae la atención y el cariño desde la primera vez que uno le contempla. Allí a su alrededor se han obrado y se siguen obrando maravillosos favores, para quien no conozca los prodigios que obtiene la fe parecerían fábulas o cuentos inventados por la imaginación, pero que son muy ciertos para quienes recuerdan la promesa de Jesús " Según sea tu fe así serán las cosas que te sucederán". El Padre Juan comenzó a narrar a las gentes los milagros que hace el Divino Niño Jesús a quienes le rezan con fe y a quienes ayudan a los pobres, y empezaron a presenciarse prodigios admirables: enfermos que obtenían la salud, gentes que conseguían buenos empleos o estudio para los niños, o casa o éxito en los negocios. Familias que recobraban la paz. Pecadores que se convertían. Y cada persona que obtenía un favor del Divino Niño Jesús se encargaba de propagar su devoción entre amigos y conocidos.

Evangelios se habla de María Magdalena, la pecadora (Luc 7, 37-50); María Magdalena, una de las mujeres que seguían al Señor (Jn 20, 10-18) y María de Betania, la hermana de Lázaro (Lc 10, 38-42). La liturgia romana identifica a las tres mujeres con el nombre de María Magdalena, como lo hace la antigua tradición occidental desde la época de San Gregorio Magno.

El nombre de María Magdalena se deriva de Magdala, una población situada sobre la orilla occidental del mar de Galilea, cerca de Tiberíades, en la que el Señor encontró por primera vez a aquella mujer. San Lucas hace notar que era una pecadora (aunque no afirma que haya sido una prostituta, como se supone comúnmente). Cristo cenaba en casa de un fariseo donde la pecadora se presentó y al momento se arrojó al suelo frente al Señor, se echó a llorar y le enjugó los pies con sus cabellos. Después le ungió el perfume que llevaba en un vaso de alabastro. El fariseo interpretó el silencio de Cristo como una especie de aprobación del pecado y murmuró en su corazón. Jesús le recriminó por sus pensamientos. Le preguntó en forma de parábola cuál de dos deudores debe mayor agradecimiento a su acreedor: aquél a quién se perdona una deuda mayor, o al que se perdona una suma menor. En el capítulo siguiente, San Lucas, habla de los viajes de Cristo por Galilea, dice que le acompañaban los apóstoles y que le servían varias mujeres.

Entre ellas figuraba María Magdalena, de la que había arrojado "siete demonios". También se recuerda a María Magdalena por otros episodios. En la hora más oscura de la vida de Cristo, María Magdalena contemplaba la cruz a cierta distancia. Acompañada por "la otra María", descubrió que alguien había apartado la pesada piedra del sepulcro del Señor. Fue ella la primera persona que vio, saludó y reconoció a Cristo resucitado. María Magdalena, la contemplativa, fue el primer testigo de la resurrección del Señor, sin la cual vana es nuestra esperanza. El Hijo de Dios quiso manifestar la gloria de su resurrección a aquella mujer manchada por el pecado y santificada por la penitencia. La tradición oriental afirma que después de Pentecostés, fue a vivir a Efeso con la Virgen María y San Juan y que murió ahí. Pero, según la tradición francesa adoptada por el Martirologio Romano y muy difundida en occidente, María Magdalena fue con Lázaro y Marta a evangelizar la Provenza y pasó los treinta años de su vida en los Alpes Marítimos, en la caverna de la Sainte Baume. Poco antes de su muerte fue trasladada milagrosamente a la capilla de San Maximino, donde recibió los últimos sacramentos y fue enterrada por el santo.

Gospels speak of Mary Magdalene, the sinner (Lk 7, 37-50); Mary Magdalene, one of the women who followed the Lord (Jn 20, 10-18) and Mary of Bethany, the sister of Lazarus (Lk 10, 38-42). The Roman liturgy identifies the three women with the name of Mary Magdalene, as has the ancient Western tradition from the time of Saint Gregory the Great.

The name of Mary Magdalene is derived from Magdala, a town located on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee, near Tiberias, where the Lord first met that woman. Among them was Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast "seven demons." Maria Magdalena is also remembered for other episodes. In the darkest hour of Christ's life, Mary Magdalene gazed at the cross from a distance. ¡Oh bienaventurado San Nicolás de Bari! a quién Dios ha glorificado con innumerables milagros manifestando su voluntad de que acudamos a ti, en los momentos difíciles de nuestra vida, confiados en tu protección. ¡Oh portento de caridad! al que acuden las familias, los pobres, los enfermos, los comerciantes, los empleados, los presos, los niños, las doncellas en peligro; yo, humildemente te pido me alcances la gracia que de ti espero, confiado en tu valiosísima protección, la que nunca niegas a tus devotos, para que favorecidos por tus bondades, cantemos una vez más las misericordias del Señor, y las maravillas de sus santos. ¡Providentísimo San Nicolás! no me abandones.

Prayers - We ask that you keep in your prayers those who are sick in our parish of Our Lady of Fatima & St. Nicholas, specially, (if you have someone who is sick and would like to include him/her in the parishioner’s personal prayers, please contact us at the office to include him /her in our prayers.)

Registration for catechesis begins in July and throughout the month of August, if you wish to register your child for their First Communion and/or Confirmation, it is important to have a copy of the baptismal certificate (if baptized) in order to register him/her, if not baptized, the birth certificate will be needed. To register you must go to the office and bring the baptismal

certificate and register. We’re looking forward to start this new year our religious education.
