Early 2015 Xomnia gave birth to Xomnia Talents to offer exciting career possibilities for data science talents. We recon it is easy to find a cool job for Data Scientists. At the same time, we know that companies face serious problems in hiring them. Or worse, when engaged, in getting these bright people fully up and running. This is primarily caused by the lack of hands-on data science experience at both the organization and the data scientist level. As a result, companies face major inefficiencies and the data scientist gets disillusioned. This gap needs to be filled! Xomnia Talents is powered by Xomnia. Xomnia has a lot of hands-on experience with the full spectrum of challenging data science projects (from concept to implementation), product development, and training. Xomnia is very well connected. Both towards universities and talents as well as to data science related business opportunities. We have access to all facilities today’s data scientist needs and we love to share this! There are two tracks we offer to accelerate data science careers or to help your organization in being data driven.

1 . Trainees : Data Sc ience t ra ineeship

This program is designed for young data science talents who would like to kick-start their career.

During a one-year intensive program talents work 4 days a week at a client’s organization and 1

day at the Xomnia office. The one day at Xomnia’s office both includes an extensive training

program as well as sharing best practices and experiences between talents and the Xomnia Data

Science team. Once a month a Lead Data Scientist, a senior Data Driven Innovation or a Big Data

Implementation expert is supporting the trainee on premise for coaching purposes. In other

words, the trainee is powered by a lot of expertise.

2 . Rec rui ts : Rec rui tment & se lect ion and outplac ement

This service is set-up for gifted data scientists and companies that want to support them within the full spectrum of their job. We tailor this program to each talented individual that wants to boost his (or her) data science career and to each company that wants to take the next step into being data driven. Both the recruit as well as the company can count on the same team for guidance and (technical) facilities that empowers the traineeship. However, on a pure flexible basis.

Appendix B : Tec hnic al fac i l i t ies

Next to the human guidance factor, it is vital for data scientists to be able to have the right

technical fundament to work with. In order to gain maximum organizational benefit Xomnia

Talents offers an extremely powerful technical infrastructure (via SURFsara) as well as a state-of-

the art analytical toolkit.

Acc ess to a h igh per formanc e c omputer network

Data Scientists are getting confronted with enormous amounts of data that must be processed,

stored and analyzed. In such projects a powerful infrastructure is an necessity. Therefore Xomnia

Talents collaborates with SURFsara. SURFsara offers an integrated ICT research infrastructure and

provide services in the areas of computing, data storage, visualization, networking, cloud and e-

Science.

Trainees (and recruits on request) at Xomnia Talents will get access to SURFsara’s High

Performance Computing (HPC) network and Hadoop Cluster. Thus, they will be able to use the

national supercomputer Cartesius and the national cluster Lisa. Both are fast and efficient tools

enabling trainees at Xomnia Talents to perform complex computations that are beyond the

capacity of "ordinary" computers.

Trainees at Xomnia Talents will also have access to

the SURFsara Hadoop cluster. The currently

configuration is 90 machines with the Hadoop-

distribution HDP 2.2. The HDFS-file system is 1.2

PB BIG, and currently ~ 700 processes are parallel

distributed available. MapReduce, Pig, Cascading

en Spark are also available for the Xomnia talents.

The security is Kerberos.

With this state of the art high-tech computer power trainees at Xomnia Talents have the

opportunity to develop their skills on parallel computing. For our clients it’s also possible and

interesting to access the national supercomputer services provided by SURFsara for research or

pilot purposes. Xomnia Talents provides full service technical support to our clients.

Xomnia Talents trainees (and recruits on request) get access to the industry's easiest-to-use state

of the art open source Analytics Platform that significantly accelerates productivity from data

wrangling to predictive action. It is built by data scientists for data scientists, businesses analysts,

and developers.

Unlike complex traditional analytics providers it enables ‘anyone’ to make the most of their data,

by its ease of use, creating a powerful code free advantage leveraging the wisdom of over

Appendix C : Data Sc ienc e Train ing

This appendix describes a selection of the training possibilities that Xomnia Talents offers. A full

data science training package is part of the trainee’s 1-year program.

Recruits can join free training possibilities on a frequent basis too such as the two-week Big Data

Fundamentals training program that is part of the trainees’ program.

This training covers the basics of big data analytics from both a business as well as a technical

perspective. By following this course the talent gets

a proper understanding about the potential of big data an overview of the different tools and techniques for collecting, saving, analyzing and

visualizing of large (possibly unstructured) data knowledge that supports the talent in setting up and managing a big data project

Besides, it is a good way to get to know the other Talents, Xomnia’s data science team, the Data Driven Innovation experts and the Big Data Implementation experts.
