The potting of the canary seed

The colour of the canary seed is yellow. The canary seed looks like small brown marbles. I plant the canary seed in pots. I use the canary seed for Christmas. I put the canary seed in front of baby Jesus. Andy Agius

Decorating our homes….

At Christmas we decorate our home. My father and I decorate the Christmas tree and the crib. We decorate the crib with the lights.

Traditional Children’s Novena

The Christmas Novena consists of nine days of prayer that focus on the birth of Jesus. Carol singing is adapted to the young and accompanied by the children’s guitar group. A Christmas party and the distribution of the presents bring the novena to an end. Liam Bugeja

The procession of Baby Jesus

The procession of Baby Jesus takes place before the midnight mass on Christmas Eve. It was done the first time by St. George Preca who is the first Maltese Saint in Malta. The procession continued through the years as a tradition. Emerson

The midnight mass

On Christmas Eve at about 10 o’clock we go the midnight mass. Many people gather there to celebrate the birth of Jesus. When the mass finishes we go home and we open the presents. Owen Cassar

Christmas Pudding

We eat the Christmas pudding on Christmas day. Mum cooks the Christmas pudding. Dad puts some hollies on the pudding.

Treacle Rings

The black treacle rings are good. They have a round shape and a hole in the middle. This food is also related to the feast of St. Martin in November.

Hot Chestnut Soup

The hot chestnut soup is a traditional Christmas recipe. It is made by boiling dried chestnuts, chocolate, sugar and the zest of orange. It was used in the old days to keep you warm. My grandma still makes it every year.
