DESCRIPTION
This specification covers single conductor non-shield-ed power cables, Type RW90, insulated with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE). All power cables manufac-tured under this specification are suitable for 2001 to5000 volt operation. These cables comply in all respectswith CSA and/or ICEA Standards.
APPLICATION:
Where CEC, Part 1 requirements apply, this cable issuitable for use in wet or dry locations at continuousconductor temperature of 90°C, 130°C emergencyoverload, and at 250°C short circuit conditions. Allsizes may be installed in conduit or duct for properlysupported aerial installations. This cable is alsosuitable for all applications in which ICEA allows use ofnon-shielded cable at voltages of 2001 volts and aboveas covered by ICEA S-66-524.
CONSTRUCTION DATA AND SPECIFICATIONS:
Conductors - The conductors consist of uncoated softcopper meeting the requirements of ASTM B-3. Unlessotherwise specified, Class B stranding will be supplied. The stranding meets the requirements of ASTM B-8 forcopper conductors. Sizes 8AWG through 4AWG canbe furnished in Class C, 19 strand.
Conductor Shield - The conductor shielding consistsof an extruded semi-conducting layer meeting therequirements of CSA C22.2 No.38-M1986.
Insulation - The insulation is CSA rated RW90 cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), extruded concentricallyover the conductor. Ethylene-propylene rubber (EPR)insulation conforming to ICEA S-68-516 (NEMA WC-8)and CSA C22.2 No. 38 is also available upon request.
Tests - The finished cable will meet all test require-ments as specified by CSA C22.2 No.38

POWER CABLE, NON-SHIELDED, 5000 VOLT, JACKETEDCROSS-LINKED POLYETHYLENE INSULATION (XLPE)TYPE RW90, WET OR DRY, SINGLE AND THREE CONDUCTOR90°C CONDUCTOR TEMPERATURE
Insulation - The insulation is cross-linked polyethyl-ene (XLPE), extruded concentrically over the conduc-tor to the wall thickness, as specified by CSA C22.2No.38-M1986, and ICEA S-66-524. Ethylene-propylene rubber (EPR) insulation conforming toICEA S-68-516 (NEMA WC-8) and CSA C22.2 No. 38is also available upon request.
Conductor Coding - Phase identification is providedby a suitable marking on each insulated conductor ofmulti-conductor cable.
Bonding Conductor - When specified, one strandeduncoated bare-copper bonding conductor in one ofthe outer interstices (3-conductor) or one in each oftwo opposite interstices (4-conductor) can be supplied.Special bonding conductor requirements are availableupon request, such as 50% of phase conductor ormore than the normal one ground conductor.
Assembly - The assembly of multi-conductor cablesis done by cabling together the required number ofinsulated, non-shielded conductors and ground wireif specified, with a suitable left hand lay. Suitablefillers will be used in the interstices when required tomake the cable round. A mylar tape is applied overthe entire assembly.
Jacket - A sunlight and ozone resistant jacket ofpolyvinyl chloride (PVC) is extruded over the singleand multi-conductor assembly. DESCRIPTION:
This specification covers primary underground distribu-tion power cable consisting of an inner conductorinsulated with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), alayer of semi-conducting non-metallic material and anouter conductor of helically applied copper wires. Allcables produced under this specification are suitablefor 5000 to 15000 volts operation. These cables complyin all respects with CSA and/or ICEA Standards.
APPLICATION:
The cables are intended for use in undergrounddistribution systems. The cables may be used in wetor dry locations, installed in underground conduits orducts, exposed to weather, or ozone at continuousconductor temperature of 90°C, 130°C emergencyoverload, and 250°C short circuit conditions. They arealso suitable for direct burial use.
Conductor Shield - The conductor shielding consistsof an extruded semi-conducting layer meeting therequirements of and ICEA S-66-524, Section 2.
Insulation - The insulation is cross-linked polyethyl-ene (XLPE), extruded concentrically over the conduc-tor to the wall thickness as specified by CAN/CSAC68.3-M92 and ICEA S-66-524 (NEMA WC-7). Tree-
retardant cross-linked polyethylene (TR-XLPE) isavailable upon request. Ethylene-propylene rubber(EPR) insulation conforming to ICEA S-68-516 (NEMAWC-8) and CAN/CSA C68.3-M92 is also availableupon request.
Insulation Shield and Protective Covering - Di-rectly over the insulation is extruded a layer of semi-conducting polyethylene (PE) to function as anelectrostatic shield and a protective jacket per CAN/CSA C68.3-M92 and ICEA S-66-524, Section 4-1,Table 7-2 (NEMA WC-7) .
Concentric Conductor - Applied spirally over thesemi-conducting layer will be a concentric neutralconductor consisting of annealed uncoated copperwires meeting ASTM B-3 and ASTM B-5. The wiresare approximately evenly spaced and available as fullneutral equal to the circular mil area of the innerconductor or 1/3rd neutral equal to one-third thecircular mil area of the inner conductor . The size andnumber of the neutral wires are in accordance to ICEAS-66-524, Table 7-3 and the lay is not less than 6 normore than 10 times the diameter over the concentricwire layer.
Overall Jacket - Upon request, a protective sunlightand ozone resistant jacket of polyvinyl chloride (PVC)is extruded over the concentric conductor. The jacketis applied to meet the requirements of CAN/CSAC68.3-M92, ICEA S-66-524 (NEMA WC-7).Polyethylene (PE) and chlorinated polyethylene (CPE)jackets are available upon request.
Tests - The finished cable will meet all test require-ments as specified by CAN/CSA C68.3-M92 andICEA S-66-524 (NEMA WC-7).
