How Xerox technologies can help

The solid ink solution The EA toner solution

Xerox’s cartridge-free solid ink technology provides a remarkably environmentally-friendly alternative to traditional laser-based printers and multifunction printers (MFPs).

Emulsion Aggregation (EA) toner is a big step forward in toner-based products. Its smaller size and more uniformly-shaped particles provide big benefits in sustainability.

Increase Energy Efficiency

Reduces energy consumption by 15% on average with the Intelligent Ready feature that “learns” workgroup printing usage times and moves to low-power mode when use is unlikely.

Consumes up to 50% less energy than a standard laser printer. Fusing toner is the most power-intensive process in laser printing. The fusing temperature is considerably lower with EA toner resulting in lower energy consumption as well as higher reliability and improved print quality.

Solid ink supplies require 28:1 less CO2 emissions to transport and store than a standard laser-based device’s supplies.

Requires 25-35% less energy to manufacture per pound than standard toner due to its extremely small size and uniform shape.

Less energy is used to manufacture solid ink compared to standard toner, thanks to its unique design.

EA toner is more compact enabling Xerox to manufacture smaller cartridges without sacrificing print capacity. This in turn cuts CO2 emissions in transport and the space required for storage.

Reduce Waste

Generates 90% less waste than a comparable laser device because it has no cartridges to dispose of and far less packaging to add to landfills.

Requires 40-50% less toner during printing because it takes only half as much EA toner to cover a square centimeter (.04 - .05 milligrams of EA toner vs. .07 - .09 milligrams of conventional toner).

Solid ink provides high-quality results on recycled paper of any kind.

With smaller cartridges and packaging EA toner creates less waste than standard toner.

Executive Order 13514: Reduce greenhouse gas emissions.On October 5, 2009 President Obama issued an Executive Order that directs Federal agencies to set goals for 2020 greenhouse gas emission reduction targets.

The order states that Federal agencies shall increase energy efficiency; conserve water; eliminate waste, recycle, and prevent pollution; leverage agency acquisitions to foster markets for sustainable technologies and environmentally preferable materials, products, and services; design, construct, maintain, and operate high performance sustainable buildings in sustainable locations; and support sustainable communities.
