Schalek Simmentals has been actively owned and operated by my parents, Duane

and Barb Schalek, since the late 1970’s. They have always selected for sound cattle with

great feet, legs and bone. Dad loves a soggy middle in his bulls and replacement heifers that,

in return, become easy keepers who do well with our harsh weather conditions of cold and

drought. XCR Angus was started by myself, Wendy Schalek, in 1983 when I bought my fi rst

registered Angus cow. My parents said I could only have ten head before I had to pay for

my own feed bills. Thus XCR Angus or (Ten (X) Cow (C) Ranch (R) Angus) was started.

We have enjoyed many successes by our own standards through the sale ring and at perfor-

mance bull tests like the Midland Bull Test. We truly love our cattle and are sad to see them

go. However, I was born with a genetic lung disease, Cystic Fibrosis, and in the recent

years have required more hospitalization and longer IV treatments. Therefore we have

made the hard decision to give you an OPPORTUNITY. We hope you take advantage of it!

The cattle are in excellent condition. We have a quality herd health program

where the cattle are TB, Leukosis, BVD and Johnes free. We are offering to have a win-

tering program for the bulls purchased at the sale.

We bought our fi rst Simmental herdsire from Schalek Simmentals in 2001, SF Earthquake K282 ASA# 2066167. He was one of the early Red, non diluter, homo-zygous polled, moderate framed, heavy muscled Simmental bulls with good data but unproven. Today, “Earthquake” is a genetic trait leader in CE, BW, Milk, MWW and REA with an API of 115 and TI of 67. His calves are very popular with our bull customers, and he will be a big contributor to the success of our own sale again February 5, 2011. Duane not only produces good cattle, he stands be-hind what he sells and will be missed as a Simmental breeder.
