There were a variety of fluorescent based fittings in use together with some HPS low bay fittings however the main hall lighting is the focus of this case study. We needed to identify a solution whereby the translucent coloured ring diffusers (attached to the old fittings) could be retained to preserve the interior design features in the main hall. OUR APPROACH It is not always possible to identify fittings that are an identical replacement for the old ones. However we enjoy an excellent relationship with our supply chain partners and in this instance we achieved a great result. Our manufacturing partners agreed to produce a bespoke LED down-light fitting which allowed us to deliver the best possible solution. THE SOLUTION The best available solution for the main hall was to specify our latest generation of INTER GREEN 16 watt LED down lights. These fittings are supported by a 5 year manufacturer’s warranty and include high quality LED’s and LED Drivers. The new down-lights replaced the twin folded fluorescent 26 watt lamps (set in recessed cylindrical reflectors). The total power consumed by the twin CFL fittings was 63 watts (including the ballast power). THE OUTCOME The new 16 watt down-lights are twice as effective as the old 63 watt units. This fact is underpinned by the canopy over the restaurant serving area where the staff decided to switch off one row of the new lights because they were so bright An application for an interest free loan was approved by The Carbon Trust and the installed cost of the new fittings was fully financed by the loan.
