1. Xanthelasma palpebrum is a type of xanthoma.

2. Xanthelasma results in a build up of fat under the skin.

3. Around 50% of patients with xanthelasma have dyslipidemias.

4. These can be primary dyslipidemias due to genetic causes like familial hypercholesterolemia phenotype IIa.

5. They can also be secondary dyslipidemias due to excessive dietary saturated fats.

6. Xanthelasma affects more women than men.

7. Symptoms of xanthelasma include yellowish swellings on the eyelids.

8. These swellings are usually on the medial side of the upper eyelid.

9. Xanthelasma eyelid swellings progressively increase in size but are not painful.

10. Most xanthelasma complaints are due to the cosmetic appearance of the lesions.
