INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Please Read Before Starting:
X-Treme Gate's Installation Instructions are for unmodified bed and tail-
gate applications on full-size pickup trucks only.
X-Treme Gate can be installed over all types of existing bed liners, in-cluding sprayed-on and drop-in
If your tailgate has a bolted-on bed liner currently attached to it, it is
strongly recommended you remove the bolts to prevent scratching or mar-
ring your X-Treme Gate back panel during deployment and stowing.
If your bed has a tonneau cover, you must consider the clearance issue
with support brackets, sliding rails, and locking mechanisms. Your X-Treme Gate can be mounted forward/lower on the tailgate to compensate
for this clearance - however, you must compensate for the change in the side panels as well; read through these instructions and note the clearance issues before proceeding with the installation.

Installing X-Treme Gate:
STEP 1.
Place the X-TREME GATE Slide-Out Assembly on your open tailgate
with the end panel facing down and the side panels folded down. The rounded edge should be towards the back of the tailgate as shown in
Fig. A.
Fig. A
Place the X-Treme Gate Housing Cover over the Slide-Out Assem-bly as shown below in Fig. B
Fig. B The Housing Cover, when secured to the tailgate, enables X-Treme Gate’s
slide-out capability. As the Slide-Out Assembly is pulled out, the upper lip of the back, upper edge will engage with the inside edge of the Housing Cover to create a hinge, allowing the Slide-Out Assembly to fold up and lock in place.
NOTE:
When the Slide-Out Assembly is pulled out of the Housing Cover, it
will catch slightly. This is by design to prevent the Slide-Out
Assembly from inadvertently sliding out while driving with the
tailgate down and X-Treme Gate not deployed.
Fig. C
If the top of the Slide-Out Assembly’s End Panel aligns approximately 1” from the rear edge as shown in Fig. F1 then continue to Step 3. Otherwise,
adjust the position of the X-Treme Gate Housing until the entire unit is cen-tered on the tailgate, both front-to-back and side-to-side, and allow the Side
Panels to extend into the truck bed as shown in Fig. F2.
Center the X-Treme Gate horizontally on the tailgate as shown in Fig. C and ensure at least one-half inch of clearance on each side of the housing cover
and the side of the tailgate.
STEP 2.
In order to properly position the X-Treme Gate unit from front to back, de-
ploy the end panel/side panel Slide-Out Assembly with the side panels facing into the truck bed. Line up the end of the end panels with the inside wall of
the tailgate opening as shown in Fig. D.
NOTE:
Use caution as the unit has NOT been attached to the tailgate yet! Preferably and if possible, have a second person hold the Housing Cover
in place while the Slid-Out Assembly is deployed in preparation for the remaining steps as shown in Fig. E1.
If, however, you are installing the unit alone, hold the Housing Cover in
place with one hand on the cover and, while grasping the Slide-Out As-sembly in the center with the other hand, carefully deploy the Slide-Out assembly out from underneath the Housing Cover as showing Fig E2.

STEP 3.
Attach the X-Treme Gate Housing unit to the tailgate using the six 2.5”
self-tapping screws (Part #AA). Use the drill fitted with a Philips head bit
to insert them in the order shown in Fig. G.
It is important to keep the X-Treme Gate completely
stationary and in place during this process!!
Fig. G
STEP 4.
Using the drill and Philips head bit, insert the three 2” self-tapping screws (Part # AB) into the front block in the order shown in Fig H.
NOTE:
If you do NOT have a bed liner, then be sure to remove the
X-Treme Gate Housing unit and clean away all metal shav-ings. Next, lay the rubber gasket strips (Part # DD) under
the end blocks, and re-attach the Housing Unit.
Fig. I
STEP 5.
With the X-Treme Gate attached and stowed away, close the tailgate. Using
a pencil and masking tape, mark the right-side posts along the front edge of the housing 15" from the floor of the bed as shown in Fig. I.
STEP 6.
Open the tailgate and pull out the Slide Out Assembly from the housing unit. Lift both side panels to a vertical position and rotate the assembly for-
ward until the side panels are even with the inside of the truck bed wall. Provided you have 1/2” or more of clearance on each side as noted in Fig C,
mark a point approx 2” from the top and 2” from the front (i.e. into the truck bed) on the side panel. Using a hammer and center punch, tap the
marked point to create a dimple for the drill bit to rest in.
With the 3/4” drill bit and while using the scrap wood as a backer, rest the bit in the dimple then drill and countersink a hole in the Side Panel. If you
do NOT have adequate clearance on the sides, then drill the hole at a point where the retainer post will be positioned completely in front of your
marked line.
NOTE:
To ensure the retainer clip operates smoothly, it is impor-
tant to remove all loose plastic particles and debris from
the hole’s edges with a blade or knife as shown in Fig. J
Fig. J
STEP 7.
Place a large strip of the masking tape or painters tape over the end panel’s 3/4” drilled hole as shown in Fig. K. Then poke your finger through the
tape covering the drilled hole to make the hole visible. Next, take a Retainer Clip Assembly (Part #A2) and position it so its
rounded end lines up with the right side of the hole drilled in the Side Panel as shown in Fig. K.
Making sure the Retainer Clip is parallel to the top of the Side Panel, use a
pencil or a marker to mark position of the four holes in the retainer clip on the side panel as shown in Fig. K
Remove the Retainer Clip and, using the 1/4” drill bit and the scrap wood
as a backer, drill and countersink the four holes in the Side Panel. Remove the masking/painters tape.
NOTE:
It is important to again remove all loose plastic debris from the
hole’s edges with a blade or knife as shown in Fig. J
Fig. K
After drilling the four holes for the Retainer Clip,
DO NOT attach the Retainer Clip yet! Continue to Step 8.
STEP 8.
Hold the Side Panel against the side post of the truck bed, making sure the
top of the Side Panel is level (parallel) to the ground and the Slide-Out As-
sembly’s End Panel (see photo on Pg. 1) upright and vertical—See Fig. L.
Place masking/painters tape on the truck bed’s side post where the two rear
holes drilled in the Side Panel in Step 7 overlap it. Using a pencil, mark the
tape through those two rear holes.
NOTE:
To ensure the Side Panel’s ability to open and close smoothly, a
slight gap should exist between the Side Panel and the Housing
Cover when the Side Panel is level as shown in Fig. L
Fig. L
STEP 9.
Place the Retainer Post's (Part # A1) two rear holes over the two marks on
the side post with the "tapered end" of the retainer post's base plate pointing to the front of the truck bed (i.e. toward the tailgate). Make sure the post
itself is just in front of the mark made in Step 5 if you do NOT have clear-
ance on the sides of the X-Treme Gate when the tailgate is closed.
If you do not have a bed liner, place the retainer post over a rubber gasket (Part #EE) and attach the post using the four 3/4” flat head self-tapping
screws (Part # BB) with the drill and Philips head bit.
If you do have a bed liner, the retainer post may be mounted directly onto it
without the rubber gasket. See Fig. M
Fig. M
STEP 10.
Assemble the Retainer Clip (Part #A2) by placing the Slide inside the slide
channel and inserting two Retainer Clip Springs (Part #A3) under the slide
in the slide’s opening and the hole in the slide assembly. See Fig. N
Mount the Retainer Clip on the inner side of the side panels by aligning the
mounting holes and inserting four 3/8” Flat Head Screws (Part # CC) from
the outer side of the side panel - see Fig. O
NOTE:
Be careful to hold the retainer clip together while mounting and
attaching it to prevent the assembly from separating.
Fig. N
Fig. O
The installation of one of X-Treme Gate’s two Side Panels is now com-
plete. Test its operation by deploying the X-Treme Gate, opening the Side
Panels, folding the End Panel up to a vertical position, and attaching the
Side Panel to the Retainer Post by pulling back the spring-loaded Retainer
Clip to open it, placing it over the Retainer Post, then releasing the clip to
lock securely onto the post.
Next, lower and store the X-Treme Gate by pulling back the spring-loaded
Retainer Clip and releasing the side panel from the Retainer Post. Rotate
the side panel back toward you to fold the gate’s end panel down, fold the
side panels over and down onto the end panel, and push the gate assembly
into the housing unit to stow it.
STEP 11.
Repeat Steps 5 - 10 on the other Side Panel to complete the installation of
your new X-Treme Gate!
