  • The X-Ripper twin shaft grinder effectively reduces large solids to manageable size for further solids reduction or for downstream processing equipment. It provides protection to downstream equipment from clogging and damage by solids.

What sets the X-Ripper apart from other twin shaft grinders is its unique cut-ting elements. Traditional twin shaft grinder cutters are stacked up along the shaft using smaller individual blades and compo-nents. The main disadvantages of the traditional design is the complexity of maintenance and high cost of repair. Periodic factory service is required to keep a traditional twin shaft grinder operating efficiently which affects maintenance costs and increases downtime.

The X-Ripper features solid ripper rotors that are precision machined out of high quality hardened alloy. They are not built up out of several smaller pieces like typical twin-shaft grinders. Our cutters provide long lasting grinding perfor-mance and are easy to replace without removing any connected piping or sending parts back to the factory.

  • The X-Ripper Product Line.Vogelsang offers two main configurations, the XRSQ and XRSQD, designed to operate in an inline fluid stream condition. Vogelsang also provides the XRLQD configuration, designed to operate in a wet or dry feed condition. The XRS comes in several housing sizes and wet-end options to suit numerous flow rates and solids handling conditions. The XRL is designed to work with a hopper feed and an adjustable frame. This allows it to be worked into an existing system with minimal retrofitting.

  • Quality Performance & ControlThe X-Ripper's cutting performance can be controlled in two ways. The first method is by the width of the blades. The XRS 100, 136 & XRS 186 allow for optional blade widths which generate different cuts. Finer blade width results in a more reduced solid. The other way to influence cut size is by rotation. Higher RPM also produces a finer cut.

The cutters are precision machined from as a single piece. They are made from specially processed steel that is formulated to be ductile inside with an incredibly hard surface. This creates a cutting element that is highly resistant to impact while retaining sharp edges.

Easy Inline MaintenanceBy comparison to a traditional twin shaft grinder, the X-Ripper is easy to maintain. Everything can be done inline in without removing any connected piping. The front cover is removed for easy access to the wet end or cutting area. The X-Ripper's ripper rotors are both removed at the same time and come off in solids sections versus individual pieces.

Typical routine service such as changing rotors takes only a fraction of the time required to service a typical twin shaft grinder. In addition there are no cartridge style parts that require factory refurbishment.

INCREDIBLE SOLIDS HANDLING & MAXIMUM LIFE CYCLE

X-Ripper Twin Shaft Grinders | Operating & Performance Details

How the X-Ripper WorksThe X-Ripper grinds and reduces solids by means of two rotating ripper rotors. Each rotates in the opposite direction towards the center of the device. This draws solids between the ripper rotors which effectively grinds the solids as they pass through.

To enhance the grinding effect, one of the cutting elements is rotating faster than the other. The difference in rotational speed enhances the overall ripping effect of the device.

    X-Ripper Grinder Performance Specifications:

ConfigurationsThe X-Ripper XRS models are flanged inline much like a pump or other inline grinder. The X-Ripper XRL models, as shown below, are available with an adjustable frame and integrated hopper. This config-uration makes it possible to add an X-Ripper to your system with minimal retrofitting of the original process components.

Specify a required cut size using one of several cutting elements.

X-Ripper models 100, 136 & 186 have optional blade widths. The XRS 136 features optional cutting elements in .38" or .54" widths. The XRS 186 or XRL 186 features optional cutting elements in .31", .41" or .63". A width is selected based on the application, solid type and operating conditions.

  • Our grinders have been widely chosen for handling solids and conditioning sludge in a variety of applications throughout the industry, including fisheries, sugar, meat processing, vegetable processing, plastic processing, wastewater and biogas.

X-Rippers are generally placed either in front of pumps or in areas where dry or wet solids need to be cut down to size. Excessive material waste can be cut down to size to make solids easier to transport or further processing of the material.

Unlike other grinder designs, X-Ripper can run dry continuously, so there is no need for shutting it down. It will continue to operate as you feed it material.

In many cases, X-Ripper can replace other grinding products that are common for reducing excess waste or process solids.

    Wastewater

The heavy concentration of hair, rags and floatable non-organic debris creates the need for a grinder that can perform and last in harsh operating conditions.

In wastewater, X-Ripper is recom-mended due to its high flow range, low head loss and overall robust construction. The X-Ripper has a very large cutting area for its footprint and can retrofit into an existing system in a variety of ways. Assembly options include: channels, or in-pipe to get solids down to manageable sizes before passing through pumps or processing equipment.

X-Ripper is frequently chosen for raw sewage, primary sludges, thickened sludges and digested sludges in municipal wastewater. In industrial wastewater it is often used, prior to dewatering to get as much water out of the waste as possible.

    Fisheries

Offal that has already been pro-cessed to either waste treatment or to discharge now has stringent federal and state guidelines for output size.

Using X-Ripper you can take large solids, like a halibut carcass or cod heads and cut them down to size using a single machine. We specifically design the cutting teeth to your specific state or local requirements on offal size and can make further recommenda-tions to make sure you have what you need when processing.

    APPLICATIONS

Grinding Applications | X-Ripper Twin Shaft Grinder

  • Sugar Processing

In the sugar processing industry, X-Ripper is used for cutting beets after being washed and dewatered. The unique design and robust materials of the X-Ripper rippers are able to provide long life due to their unique manufacturing. Our monolithic design allows an easy change to the size of the output anywhere from .54" all the way down to .31" with just changing the width of the ripper. Using this technique we keep the blades sharp and in place without any chattering commonly found in designs that use spacers.

Sugar beets are not so difficult to cut, but the skins normally contain amounts of dirt and grit that can wear out other conventional designs. Our unique design allows us to use harder, long lasting materials compared to other twin-shaft grinders.

    Slaughter & Rendering

In slaughter house facilities they often have waste generated after the salable meat is removed. This waste is typically collected in large bins and then sent out for further rendering at another facility. Using X-Ripper can dramatically improve their hauling capacity associated with the removal of the waste. By using X-Ripper the waste can be cut down to much smaller sizes than other conven-tional methods. Keeping the size smaller uses the waste bins more effectively which translates to savings on transportation time and fuel.

X-Ripper can be used either at the slaughter house or at the rendering facility, as rendering process with work much easier with smaller particles sizes. Whether poultry, pork or beef, X-Ripper reduces waste solids efficiently.

    Food Processing

X-Ripper is a perfect fit for most food processing facilities in both waste and process. The X-Ripper can be used to process large food solids down to smaller parts to be further processed down the line, or on the waste side of processing. Facilities that use X-Ripper could be processing potatoes, fresh pack vegetables, tomatoes, onions, oranges, and apples. X-Ripper is used to cut down to mash, or pre-condition before fresh packaging for consumers.

Using the X-Ripper XRL we give a large opening to get almost any solid cut down to size. Whether you need a small or large opening we have them in your required size in pipe, or out.
