WYNDHAM PARK Primary School Term 1 Issue 4 March 2018 A message from our principal Hola, Focus 1…Focus 2…Focus 1 What an amazing 7 weeks we have had so far at WPPS. It has been so encouraging to see our students and community sele so well into the new rounes of the school day and week. It is hard to believe we are only 2 weeks away from another term break. A personal highlight for me has been the rounes that our student leaders have established to start our school day. I am sure this involvement will connue to grow every day. School Census The school census for 2018 was on February 28. We have confirmed that in 2018 we have 391 students enrolled at WPPS. As of April 16 we will be opening 2019 enrolments so if you have someone ready for school in 2019 make sure you contact the office and organise the enrolment forms. School Council elecons Announcing the official outcome of the 2018 School Council Elecons I would like to congratulate the successful candidates on their appointment to Wyndham Park Primary School Council. I feel sure that they will make a valuable contribuon to our school council as well as have an opportunity to learn more about the workings of our school. On behalf of the whole school community I would like to thank them for your commitment to our school and wish them all the best in their role as councillor. Id also like to officially thank Anne Marie Pitman, Bhupinder Singh and Helen Wyse on behalf of the school community for nominang for council. School councils rely heavily on having quality people nominate for vacant posions each year and we regret that there are only a limited number of posions available on council. Thanks again for your enthusiasm and commitment to our school. As always, I am very grateful for the work that they do to support the school and I look forward to receiving another nominaon from them again in the future for a school council role. 2018 School Council Membership Parent Member Category 2 year term – March 2017 to February 2019 Carol Achison-Mills Jelica Gal Belinda Mort Briany Fletcher-Jones Parent Member Category 2 year term – March 2018 to February 2020 Sarah Mahmood Edward Hyde Raylee Smith DET Employee Category 2 year term – March 2017 to February 2019 Julia McCahon Jacek Tomaszewski DET Employee Category 2 year term – March 2018 to February 2020 Karri Fry Jessica Anibaldi Kookaburra Avenue Werribee, VIC, 3030 Phone: 03 9741 4549 Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm Email: [email protected] Website: www.wyndhamparkps.vic.edu.au

Breakfast Club Whilst on morning yard duty I spend time with the students that visit our breakfast club each morning. Seeing the students enjoying breakfast together reminds me of two things.. Firstly, the benefit of our breakfast club including improved learning, attendance and behaviour at school, punctuality, healthy eating, and social development, for all students that participate. Secondly, how vitally important volunteers are in making a school community successful. As the saying goes, "It takes a village to raise a child,” and the same is true for creating and maintaining a positive and nurturing school environment for our entire student community. While we as teachers and administrators are responsible for providing enriching academics and professional support, our school is much more than just a place where worksheets are distributed and graded. WPPS is supported by a tight knit community of volunteers who dedicate their time and resources to building a solid foundation of support and who have created a lasting impression on staff, the students and myself alike. I am eternally grateful for the outstanding work of the Breakfast Club volunteers and all volunteers at WPPS and extremely proud of the work that you do. Kind regards, Laban Toose

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Wyndham Park Primary School is excited to be participating. We are aiming for all of our students to complete the challenge in 2018.

The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by August the 22nd 2018.

Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.

All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and can choose to have their name included on the online Honour Roll. If you would like your child‘s name to appear on the Honour Roll, please sign the Premiers Reading Challenge form and return it to school. These forms can be collected from the WPPS office.

To read the Premier’s letter to parents, view the booklists and for more information about the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge, visit: www.education.vic.gov.au/prc

If you have any questions please ask your child’s teacher.

5/6 Camp Doxa

What an amazing three days and two nights our students and teachers had at camp and back at school last week! Camp Doxa provided many incredible experiences that will be remembered for years to come including; The Giant Swing, A Night Walk, The Doxa Challenge, Low Ropes Course, cooking and possibly everyone’s ultimate favourite The Gaga Pit! The students remaining at school were involved in an exciting curriculum also, including game design and orienteering encouraging Team Work and co-operation. To top it all off we finished the week with our first (very successful) Inter School Sport session.

The Gaga Pit! Mr Toose, we want one of these

please.
