WYNDHAM PARK Primary School Term 3 Issue 3 August 2017 Buenas Tardes (good afternoon) It has been another busy fortnight at WPPS (with more coming up)! This week is National Support Staff week and I would like to take this opportunity to publically thank all our Education Support Staff. This includes Barb, Kylee, Dah Moo, Kelly, Leonie, Jenni, Janine, Sandra, Marita, Andrew, Kim, Lynne, Valerie and Kaylene . Without these important people, our school would not run as smoothly as it does. Thank you for all the work you do. Keep an eye out in the newsletter for information regarding Literacy and Numeracy week. This year this event will be between 28th August – 1st September. We will have our Book Parade on the 1st of September (dont forget to dress up and come and be involved in the Parade). Keep an eye out for more information about this. I also look forward to seeing parents during the Wyndham learning Festival Event running from the 1st September – 8th September across Wyndham. Kids Thrive as Catalysts have been interviewed on National radio. WPPS is famous. If you would like to hear the interview you can do so online via http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/ lifematters/. Intensive Swimming Program Our Intensive-swimming program begins on Monday 18th September and goes for one week (4 days in total). This program greatly supports our swimming carnival in Term 1, builds confidence in and around the water as well as ensuring our students learn the curriculum around water safety. Further details of this program will be sent out shortly. Parent Opinion Survey The Parent Opinion Survey has been shared with the randomly selected parents on August 7th. It is completed annually by the Department of Education and Training and is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected parents at every school in Victoria. All responses to the survey are anonymous. The survey helps our school gain an understanding of how you view our school climate, student engagement, and relationships. Our school will use these results to inform school planning and improvement strategies. The survey will be conducted online by ORIMA Research Pty Ltd and only takes 15 minutes to complete. If you received an invitation to participate, please ensure you complete the survey by Sunday 27th August. We thank those who have participated for their feedback. Working Bee A reminder that the Working Bee for this term will be held on 16th September from 8am – 12pm. Please come along and help beautify our school. Kind regards Laban Toose Principal

travelled to the wetlands and met our community partner from the Wyndham City Council, Darren

Wright. Our action is called Trash ’N’ Trees. We helped by picking up rubbish and plantied trees. We will

use the $126 that we got at the pitch to buy our gloves, BBQ tongs and buckets. We will also be buying

What’s been happening in the 3/4 Learning Community?

Our current inquiry is coming to an end and students have been busy finding out answers to their won-derings regarding the scientific principles that underpin change. In particular, they have been re-searching the properties of solids, liquids and gases; chemical and physical reactions; man-made and natural materials and learning how to conduct scientific investigations.

Reuben’s wondering was “Why does oil and water separate when they are put together?” Reuben created a lava lamp using oil, food colouring and Alka-Seltzer tablets. He observed what happened and explained that water is heavier than oil therefore the oil comes to the top.

Min Myo, RJ and Amos wanted to find out about crystals – how to make them and whether the reaction was a physical or chemical one. They discovered that all elements are listed on a Periodic Ta-ble. They discovered that the symbol for gold is Au. They then ex-perimented and made crystals in 2 different ways – one using Ep-som Salt and the other using Borax

Shiney, Sayku, Eh Moe Ta Dah and Diksha’s wondering was “How do we make different polymers?” They researched what a polymer was, conducted a survey in school to find out what other people knew about polymers, experimented to make different types of polymers and decided to make a video to share with others their findings.

Fathers Day Stall Fathers day raffle tickets have been sent home today

and are due back by the Wednesday 30th of August.

The raffle will be drawn on Thursday 31st August

Fathers day stall is also on Thursday 31st August and

second chance stall on Friday 1st September.

Please note the maximum spend is only $5.00

Thank—you
