What I know

1. Students Come First represents significant change for Idaho education, which can contribute to uncertainty and fear.

2. Stakeholders want to know all the details of how each component will work right now.

3. We are not there yet.

Why Bother?

To better prepare

students

for the world that awaits them.

Students Come First is Idaho’s education transformation effort focused on:

• preparing students for college and career• fostering great teachers and leaders • integrating technology in instruction • increasing parental engagement through

transparency and accountability

The goal is to establish equitable learning environments throughout the state and equip students for success in the 21st century.

Q: How do we equip students for success?A: Give teachers the tools they need to deliver 21st century instruction

1.) ISEE / Schoolnet; a one-stop data and instructional management system for all Idaho teachers to access:

• Timely student achievement data• Digital content and exemplar lesson plans• Assessment items aligned to common core• PD search and registration

Q: How do we equip students for success?A: Give teachers the tools they need to deliver 21st century instruction

2.) Create 21st Century classrooms through ongoing funding for classroom technology such as:

• Interactive white boards• Projectors• Student response systems• Handheld computers• Document cameras• Digital textbooks• 3-D modeling and dissection tools• Educational software• eReaders

Q: How do we equip students for success?A: Give teachers the support they need to deliver 21st century instruction

3.) Provide a broad range of professional development opportunities in varied formats on topics such as:

• Data driven instruction• Engaging students through digital content• Common core state standards• Classroom technology integration• Flipping the classroom

Q: How do we equip students for success?A: Recognize and reward teachers for stellar instruction and taking on additional duties

4.) Establish a mechanism to financially reward the following:

• Meeting both state and local performance measures (as groups)

• Serving in leadership positions (individual)• Serving in hard- to – fill positions (individual)
