Why change?

‘There comes a point you have to stop pulling people out of the river, get upstream and find out why they’re falling in.’

What do we deal with?

12

“ You dealt with the fluid whole of peoples’ lives, but usually when the tide was going out: people who had the cops called on them weren’t happy to see you; people who called the cops didn’t call when they were having a good time.”

Procedural Justice

‘The notion that fair procedures are the best guarantee for fair outcomes is a popular one.

Procedural justice is concerned with making and implementing decisions according to fair processes.

People feel affirmed if the procedures that are adopted treat them with respect and dignity, making it

easier to accept even outcomes they do not like.’

Time To Change

“The Force has really supported me to be confident and speak out about my mental health issues. The

Time to Change campaign will really encourage staff to seek help and advice through various resources,

and knowing others are also suffering from a number of mental health issues, makes me feel less alone.”

23

“Signing the pledge is a public statement of Leicestershire Police’s commitment to working with

partners to improve the way we deal with issues relating to mental health and wellbeing. Time to

Change is an excellent initiative that I hope will go some way towards reducing the stigma that still exists

in relation to mental health. It will empower our officers and staff to talk about mental health and

wellbeing confidently and to respond to both colleagues and the public appropriately”

‘You Are Not Alone’….

- “I just wanted to say how much impact this campaign has made, I’ve overheard open

discussions on mental health everywhere (all in a positive or challenging way), it seems

that it’s losing it’s stigma and that is down to you and the support you have harnessed”.

‘You Are Not Alone’….- “Thank you for the strength of character and courage in publicising your story”.

- “I want to applaud you on the piece you wrote about suffering with mental health….Courageous and brave are just a couple of the words that I could use to start the description of you for doing something like that and agreeing to have it published….”

“I admire you for doing and saying what you have.  I can understand exactly where you are coming from as had a similar episode 13 years ago after my dad died and I lost the plot! I don’t recall having the support you have had which looks excellent! “Hope this email was in order; I just wanted you to know that “you are not alone”.
