Nick Henwood
Community Health Global Networkis a separate initiative InterHealth (London). Its
members recognize the need for improved quality of community health programs, and better collaboration between health players, especially those in the faith-based sector.
• We promote equity, justice and human rights• We affirm that spiritual and social domains
are integral to health. Whilst holding a Christian view of health and wholeness, we welcome participation from projects and individuals of any faith or none.
Our Story
• 2000-2004 Vision and dream of Ted Lankester(of www.interhealth.org.uk).
• 2005 Founded by Ted and Nick.• 2006 www.chgn.org launched.• 2007 phase (I) (breadth) moving
on to phase (II) (depth). Dr Ted Lankester
Aim: moving from here… to here
• Faith-based organizations engaged with community health care are often isolated.
• The “faith component” fails to influence the quality of programs.
• Confidence and cooperation amongst Faith-Based Organizations.
• Faith adds value to quality.
Jesus told a story
about a man who planted a fig tree in his vineyard. It proved unfruitful, so he told the gardener to cut it down. “Leave it alone for one more year,I’ll dig around it and fertilize it,”the gardener replied.
The Gardener knew that working on the tree’s roots would make it more fruitful.
Luke 13
Community Health Global Network aims to dig around the roots so that problems can be solved:
• We will promote the sharing of information, experience, skills and positive attitudes between members and so enhance the quality of programs.
• We will help to form a critical mass of high quality faith-based programs that can speak strategically and credibly in district, national, regional and global health arenas.
Where are we now?• Staff: 1.5 full time equivalent (4, plus volunteers)• Apprx 800 contacts, 200 ‘signed up’ individual
members.• 10 ‘paid up’ organization members.• 400 unique visitors to our interactive web site each
month.• Wide support for concept from many individuals,
churches and missions internationally.• Preparations for first phase (II) location (depth cf
breadth) in Malawi.• Ted’s new edition of “Setting up community health
programs” published April 2007.
But… compared to theWinkle Brig owners’ forum
• A recently launched web site.• Lively interactions between
members.• Passion for boats, energy,
and humor abounds.
we don’t fare very well… I wonder why…
Issues for CHGN
• Encouraging contacts to become members.• Moving from just giving information, to interaction
between members…• Interaction that results in improvements in the
quality of community health programs.• Relating together with the wider family of Christian
Health Networks - and playing an appropriate role in this arena.
• Linking with you, and learning from you today.
