Dear worshiper,

If you were alongside the baby Jesus at the manger with one gift to give to him, what would it be?

At one children's Christmas pageant the director allowed the children to decide among themselves what gifts they'd give the baby Jesus in the pageant.

Some wanted to give him stuffed animals.

Others wanted to give him toys.

One little girl named Sally had several conversations with the director before she admitted what she wanted to give the baby Jesus. Finally the Director asked, "Sally, what do you want to give Jesus?"

"Oh, I'm too embarrassed," said Sally. "I shouldn't tell you."

"That's O. K. What is it?"

"A kiss," she said.

And the night of the pageant, that is what she gave him. All the other angels brought their gifts of toys and animals. But Sally bent over the manger and gave the little baby a kiss. A loving sigh went up from the congregation as they watched.

Sally knew the secret of giving.

She gave the baby Jesus exactly what God was giving us when God gave us Jesus in the cradle, something that matters, something that summed up God's hopes and dreams, something from the heart.

That's what God gave, something from the heart. God gave us Himself, when He gave us His Son.

Have a blessed Christmas and New Year in the Lord.

Pastor Ed

LETTER FROM THE GOVERNANCE BOARD

Happy New Year and I hope you got your Christmas wish. The governance board ended 2010 with a December meeting/Christmas party at my house. Church business was conducted and then everyone was set free to enjoy the evening. We will resume GB activities in mid January and look forward to a bright future in 2011 for the ministry of Emmanuel. I truly am in awe of the wonderful things happening at Emmanuel. From the willingness of long time members to not just accept, but encourage and support the changes inside the church the past two years, to the enthusiasm and commitment displayed by new members making a difference in Emmanuel’s ministry from their first day with us. As the New Year gets underway, I would like to encourage everyone to “resolve” themselves to get involved, each according to his or her strengths. Just take a minute to examine yourself and where you are in life, and you will most likely discover what it is you can add to help Emmanuel strive towards its goals, and live out its mission. If you’re not sure how you fit into God’s plan why not pray about it, and put a bug in Pastor Ed’s ear. Pastor Ed seems to have a talent for helping folks figure out how they can make the biggest impact. With all of the positives we have to build on, the key to 2011 will be continuing to move forward. The next major step for Emmanuel is to become viable financially. We have been blessed with several one-time gifts to supplement and help us, but this is the year we need to step up and find our own two legs. Emmanuel is on the verge of setting a terrific example of how a Christian Church can find relevance in today’s world without sacrificing its core values. Technology, music, and methods are forever changing but are simply tools given to us by God to be used to His Glory. I believe we are to be fishers of men. That means we need to tool up and set to sail, as rarely do the fish simply jump into the old rusty boat. I want to thank everyone for the privilege of serving as the Chairman of the Governance Board in 2010. As we jumpstart 2011, I hope everyone gets excited about Emmanuel’s vision and spreading the Good Word. Doug Richardson

Prayer Chain We are looking for someone who would like to head up the Prayer Chain. That person would be responsible for taking calls for Prayers and passing them on to the members of the prayer chain. We also really like to receive the calls that tell us of the answer to prayers. Man sees what we do. God sees why.

PRAYER, PRAISE, AND BIBLE STUDY The Women’s Bible Study (not by rule, just by circumstance) met for a pot luck Christmas Party at Ardis Rutherford’s (and Don’s) house on December 13, 2010. It was such great fun! There was the Bible study of the book of Isaiah, first, taught by Debbie Spence. Then Pastor and Cristy came to join us for the food and conversation and desserts. Oh, what deliciousness! Then Pastor had to go back to work, so sad . . We gave our beloved Debbie a gift for her year of teaching and caring. And then, the party was over. . . . For another year.

Sunday School: Our Sunday School has started for three months now. I hope that most of you had the opportunity to visit your child’s classroom. For those who have not, I encourage you to do so. We have so many wonderful lessons that we want to include in our Sunday School Class, but there just isn’t enough time to cover everything. We are doing our very best to cover what we can. Therefore, we strongly encourage that parents bring their child to church every Sunday so they don’t miss these wonderful lessons. Not only are the lessons great, but we have great teachers that dedicate their time in your child’s Sunday School Education. I’m sure your child probably shared what they have learned so far with you already. Staff: Let’s meet our Sunday School Staff. If you have any question in regards to our School Sunday Education, feel free to contact me (Mae Vangsycha) or your child’s teacher as follows.
