• Total War– As the war grew, countries had to commit all
their resources to winning• Conscription was used• Raised taxes• Rations

• Attacks on supplies became just as important as attacks on soldiers– British Navy blockade prevented supplies reaching
Germany– German U-Boats
• Blockaded and blew up any ship carrying supplies into Britain

• Public Opinion – Propaganda was used to convince people to hate the
enemy

• As the war moved on, morale on both sides dropped– Germany was running out of soldiers– Britain was almost bankrupt– Russian Revolution
